HEY NEW YORKERS - if you have any damage to your property be sure to report it here asap. reporting can help get you disaster assistance and it serves other important purposes - reportdamage.nyc.gov/
Especially the city workers unclogging the drains. I wonder if NY tried to be cleaner (tidier) would these things happen. They'd get water, but it wouldn't cause such a mess.
Literally there are millions of people globally that do this job. Let's praise teachers, nurses, insurance sales people, and Po-Po for having extremely common jobs that millions of people have had. These generic workers should be the focus of our praise. There's nothing more important than keeping infrastructure intact.... ummm.... ummm... you must be older and more naïve than me. Bot bot wotz da bot?
It’s not really a news report is it. It’s a podcast. If it were a real news report it would have made clear the obvious link between these worsening storms and climate change.
Well flooding happens just about everywhere these days and I'm not denying this didn't happen but I'm in Chelsea the sun is out everything is bone-dry people on The High Line tourists all about and restaurants are open so yes it is being over exaggerated slightly. I miss the days when people just reported the news.
@@diegopitbull7580 You think this was a news report? this was an ad payed for by nyc. i refuse to believe people could be this blind to the media they consume? the guy even has a link to the government website in the comments. this isn't decentralized info, its good marketing. the powerful? they are angry? the social media platforms have been the best tool "the powerful" have ever had there hands on.

Casey, you are easily the best film maker (video shots, storyboard editing, etc) on RU-vid! I enjoy watching all your videos! Somehow, I always thought they had water drainage figured out in Manhattan so subways etc don't flood? Has it always flooded when that once in a great while rain event happens?
Thanks was great. This Washington Heights resident stayed home and saw it on the media; yours was way better than other coverage I have seen. Keep it up!
RU-vid needs to get back to recommending vlogs. I’m so tired of seeing the same type of over the top videos in my feed. Good story telling and quality content this was good. Lord this platform is just a bother
I cant agree more brother, good god the state of this website is shit rn feels like all the content is either catered towards kids or slightly political, glad casey is keeping it real
Casey is the coolest kind of filmmakers because he’s essentially a part-time journalist when things like this come up and always tells a beautiful story
If CNN sold themselves to Casey he’d turn them back into a multimillion dollar company because then they’d cover stuff people actually care about and with style
NYC blows my mind from an engineering perspective. How they manage to support that many people in such a small area and deal with these emergencies is nothing short of incredible.
I'm originally from Rye New York 23 miles north of Manhattan. During torrential downpours the water had nowhere to go so the basement was flooded I'm in Chelsea now everything is bone-dry the sun is out and nothing is going on.
Well, ive always wondered that miracle too! So intresting of how we build NYC. Manhattan the island originally was full of waterways, rivers and swamps, and very fertile ground, its actually amazing how NYC isnt flooded every six months! Thank God for human ingenuity😂😂
@@Uryendelseriously, coming from Florida to visit, I am amazed that people actually live in such conditions. Everything there seems so run down and ancient. New Yorkers have the audacity to say that Florida is a swamp but all the populated areas here are high and dry, the swamps have been drained, in fact it seems that half of New York has already moved to Florida. 😂 I've been here since 1984 and never had anything close to this happen.
And someone has to pay for it which is another extreme in itself. The cost of what he’s describing as no where near hurricane Sandy will still be eye watering.
I really hope there is support for those who have lost their houses or places to stay, as I recently got flooded out and lost my house in the year to something just like this it's a horrible thing to have to go through
This was a great report to watch of the flooding. You do amazing filming, audio, camera work. Love you cuts. If I could have an internship with you, I'd be thrilled! I will just have to start watching more of your stuff- you are incredibly talented. Thank you for what you do!
For real, that's what I'm thinking. That needs to be completely gutted and rebuilt. Like that's how crazy that is. Should NOT have water intrusion like that.
Yeah, I'm wondering how much interior damage that amount of water managed to cause going through the structure like that. Who knows what kind of corrosion is happening within.
I really miss Casey’s daily vlogs, it’s always a pleasure to see his work. I’m not recommending a flood situation to get him filming. I feel for those who are directly impacted by this flooding, it’s definitely not fun. New Yorkers stay strong.👍👍🇨🇦
Excellent coverage of NYC flooding, I’m in New Zealand, saw it on the news looked a absolutely horrible, your coverage is as good as any tv network, take it easy stay safe, we’ve had major flooding here in NZ few months ago 1000s of houses were ruined & huge amount of people had to be evacuated 👍🏼
@@vincentxie3090 I’m in Levin about a 100km north of Wellington, Hawks Bay got hit the worst here, hundreds of houses under water, that was early in the year, Hawks Bay has recovered amazingly well,
Take it from this New York native, it will take a few hours before we even realize it is a Zombie Apocalypse. We live a light version of that every day.
Heavily admit that this makes me emotional - its so good to have Casey back in New York. He's a staple & always felt a little like our voice on here. Well done as usual Casey, great to have you back.
@@byattwurns1553 & it’s depressing for some because of the massive havoc it plays on New York because of failure of infrastructure. So that ultimately could be sad? Your comment feels a touch insensitive
@LydiaHudgens Honestly, from my perspective I feel the same about your comment. My family is from an often-flooded country. It's never a bad thing there, children love playing in the water and people like watching from high up. Obviously I've only witnessed this in a third-world country. The infrastructure is worse there but it doesn't seem to do too much damage. I find the upset reactions to new York flooding insensitive because it's something poor people deal with everyday, and they like it. It makes them look out of touch with reality. A bit like a spoilt child crying over spilt milk.
Half of the Western Cape in South Africa was also under water. Thousands lost their homes and belongings after a level 9 storm last weekend. Roads were closed, bridges washed away. It's really sad.
Casey's storytelling is something different in this one. The sound design is confronting at times, but then the music puts you in a trance that really juxtaposes what you're watching. Two videos in two days, the goat is back
Basement apartment in Park Slope here. Plugged the door with beach towels. We are good for now as of 8:30pm. Hopefully it will dry out overnight. Bags packed in case of evacuation. God speed Casey and family👍🏼
I’m in Woodside. I didn’t go out today because of the weather, but nothing seems really bad that I can see. This morning, there was a fairly large tree branch on the street out front in the no parking zone. It didn’t do any damage that I could see. It has been removed. Generally, we don’t get a lot of flooding, not even during Sandy. I just hope nobody drowned in their basement apartment this time round.
ay, but watch the brainwashed extrapolate this out to *climate change*, i looked up the history of nyc floods, its common, its even more common if you pave somewhere for miles in every direction and have consecutive shitlords running your city.
I hope everyone is ok and businesses can be rebuilt. I also saw all this happening and my first thought is Casey is going to make an insane video about this.
Every time I watch Casey roam around NY I can’t help but to think of all the other people who have lived there for as long as that cities been around. So many people lived out their lives there.
@@Geleesandwichit’s the style of NY that just hits different. And all the different iconic generations, & styles that were brought along with those time periods; that have flowed through that place. It’s just different.
I've been watching Casey's videos for so long that i have no idea when i started... had to be like 2014-15? time flies, those glasses write history. Cheers!
I absolutely loved your video. Great music, great filming and fantastic seeing New York from your perspective plus the aerial shots. Seeing the water spraying out the wall on the subway was surreal. I feel for all the people affected by the flooding. Best wishes to everyone from London, UK. God bless ❤
Every once and awhile I stop in and catch up on the videos I missed, and my lord Casey the effort you continue to put on the table is wild keep it up you have and will be always one of the best
0:48 I imagine the removal of manhole covers also would allow flooding to drain more quickly if it came to it. Always reminds me of the Ninja Turtles when I see manhole covers removed. 🍕🐢🐢🐢🐢 Great video as always Casey!
The manhole covers that were open are part of the Con Edison steam system, completely separate from the storm sewer system that takes the rain water. In the areas that flooded, the storm sewers were overwhelmed. Water came up out of some manholes.
Huge respect to all the maintenance workers who help to fight the water masses. And of course everyone else who’s been helping out there. Thanks to you, too, Casey through your video I feel like I got a much better look into the situation and how New Yorkers are dealing with this in their distinctly „New Yorker attitude“ 💪
Well the same could be said for people who live in tornado-prone areas. Or places where they have earthquakes. During Sandy my street was under 5 ft of water I went home to Rye New York to stay with my parents we didn't have electricity. But we had the stove and hot water I applied to FEMA they put me up at the W for 3 months. They also sent me a $2,500 check. And while this did happen in the area I'm in Chelsea the sun is out everything is bone-dry.
For anyone that doesn't know out there NY has PIPED STEAM! Blew my mind when I found out. I always wondered why you saw the steam coming out the ground in movies and then found out they actually have a steam network. Interesting read if you look it up. It's kind of beautiful to think about and adds to the idea that NY is like a living beast of a city with a beating heart under the surface. I hope no one gets hurt and hope the homes and businesses can recover and that beast of a city keeps chugging along.
I live in Tokyo and the two cities couldn't be further from each other but similar at the same time and I think the steam adds to it. Tokyo is like a city built for people, whereas NY is a city built around the people in it. There's something organic about it. There are places like Shinjuku and Shibuya that have a flavour of this "living city" vibe but NY has it in spades. What a city.
I moved here about a month ago from San Diego. It rains there about 5 days a year. But it’s still worth it to live in New York City! Awesome BLOG as usual, Casey!
I did the opposite I moved from NYC to san Diego 2003 and never looked back! 😂😂 there’s no way in hell I would choose NYC over SD! My rent 1 bedroom 1950 with two pools jacuzzi gym two parking spots ten minutes from gorgeous beaches and fantastic food
Good luck , people who move from the west coast for example like CA for you , take a lot of adjusting to live in a place like nyc 😂😂coming from a new yorker I can’t see myself setting down in cali for shit
Was in Manhattan on Thursday and Friday and Casey sums it up well here. Some of the subway stations were closed as a result of flooding, mostly south Manhattan and Brooklyn areas. Hopefully all the property owners are good. A 2 pairs of clothes kinda day.
I work for a company that handles service delivery and I got an email earlier today about how a lot of delivery routes in NY were shut down due to flooding, and my first and ONLY thought was, "I wonder when Casey's video is going to drop".....
Im from Portugal and I met Casey on an Apple Store last wednesday. I couldnt even express my World on seeing in a person a guy that I follow since years ago and one of my inspirations in going to NYC. Colo to have met you in person!!
Holy hey hey,... my best wishes for safety to NYC people,... I'm a native Californian but utterly love the people of NYC, the warmest and kindest Ive ever met.
