NYC: Metro-North Railroad at Harlem-125th Street

Today we are in Upper Manhattan, more precisely, in Harlem. Metro-North Railroad, which is a commuter railroad running out of Grand Central station has a stop at Harlem-125th Street, just one block away of the IRT Lexington Avenue line Subway station.
Harlem-125th Street is the only Metro-North station other than Grand Central in Manhattan. Any Metro-North train going into Grand Central has to either stop or pass this station, so it is quite busy.
The view from the southern platform end towards Midtown Manhattan is quite spectacular. One can see all the way to the MetLife building, which is right above Grand Central station. The tall and skinny skyscraper is the newly-built 432 Park Avenue luxury condo building, which at the time of filming was still under construction.
Enjoy.
Recorded at 1st October, 2015.

I am really enjoying this video mainly because I can't be there and secondly, I really like the captions you put at the bottom , the explanations are very helpful. Thanks so much for sharing and posting this amazing video. When you play it ''fullscreen'' it's like you are standing right there. Thanks again for the explanations at the bottom of the screen. That was a nice catch when the three trains departed simultaneously! You did a nice job editing.

Hey, that's right by my school! You should get some footage from the tunnel portal at 97th street. I can see trains there everyday :)

Septa should have something like that at 10:06, like at the Temple University Station.

About the description, 125th Street isn't the only station besides Grand Central in Manhattan. Marble Hill on the Hudson Line is also in Manhattan.
@forcechief
@forcechief 3 года назад
Yes, just barely though. 225th Street is only a few blocks from being in Riverdale.
@TBF_1J

@@forcechief the fact that marble hill is my station and it's only one of 3 in Manhattan is amazing
@forcechief
@forcechief 3 года назад
@@TBF_1J In fact, at Marble Hill on the 1 Line, if you ever ride an R142 (which happens from time-to-time), one would hear "This is a Manhattan Bound 1 Train" going southbound, and "This is a Van Cortlandt Park Bound 1 Train" going northbound.
@TBF_1J
@TBF_1J 3 года назад
@@forcechief southbound. They should put it as South Ferry considering the station is in Manhattan
@forcechief
@forcechief 3 года назад
@@TBF_1J I agree. The line with Riverdale is between 228th and 229th Street.

I've never been on the Overground, but are Metro North and LIRR pretty much the "Overground" of NYC?
@m3lgar582
@m3lgar582 8 лет назад
ya
@Luftschlange
@Luftschlange 8 лет назад
+Sonu Chadalavada It's more like the suburban trains of like South West Trains. They reach quite far out of New York City.
@sonuchadalavada5193
@sonuchadalavada5193 8 лет назад
yeah, i take the metro north quite often, the question was more like how far do overground trains go outside the city of london?
@MrRemzy7
@MrRemzy7 7 лет назад
they don't really - London Overground stays more within London, but some lines are relatively far out. A better comparison for Metro North would be Southern, South West Trains or Southeastern.

Interesting to see subways, el trains, and passenger trains pulled by full size diesel locomotives all on the same tracks.
@QuarioQuario54321
@QuarioQuario54321 6 лет назад
MNRR needs to buy diesel multiple units. I would do a British train with some modifications to be up to the stricter American regulations.
@sonicboy678
@sonicboy678 6 лет назад
I'd much prefer full electrification. Diesel produces significantly more pollution (air and noise).

Is there a reason this elevated track has CWR? I heard on the MTA report that the el's were not able to support CWR due to weight restraints. Does this track just have a higher weight capacity(due to the heaver nature of the rolling stock)?

On the Metro-North Railway, instead of going in the city direction on city bound tracks, and in the suburbs direction on the suburb bound tracks like they're told to, trains can run in both directions on any track.

Fantastic views and dense train traffic combine perfectly here! I like your style of filming combined with the much informative captions...useful even for a trainspotter like myself. I think M8 railcars are the most attractive, blending with the surrounding views. Thanks for posting!

Man I feel sorry for people living here, surely there are exceptions to the horn rules in grade separated central busy locations like this? Train horns 24 hours a day does not sound very appealing.
