Didn't sound like NYC was having a problem with it. They've seen their share of immigration through Ellis Island and are well equipped to handle it. I'd rather be welcomed in NYC than hated in TX. I've never been to TX but it sounds like a very bad place.
I don't consider myself either liberal or conservative, but the lawlessness going on at the southern border is outrageous and is a slap in the face to all us legal immigrants. My family migrated to the US from Jamaica decades ago, going through the legal process. Yes, it was long, yes, it was arduous, but we came through the front door while observing all legal requirements. For those of you unaware of the immigration process, it takes several years. You're thoroughly vetted, your background gets thoroughly checked, you have to provide a ton of documents, bank records, criminal records, school records, immunization records, etc. At the end of this long process they may or may not approve your entry into the US, but those of us who get in are proud immigrants who work and give back to our adopted country. As an immigrant it's a slap in the face when others are allowed to simply "cut" to the front of the line. What about all those hundreds of thousands waiting patiently all these years, going through the long and expensive process to legally migrate to this country? Furthermore, this lawlessness is being tolerated in the name of helping those seeking asylum - yet I'm not aware of any political wars in Central or South America that would necessitate a legal claim for asylum. Poverty is NOT grounds for political asylum! If you desire an improvement to your economic circumstances (you're poor), then you need to apply for legal immigration to the US just like the millions of us that have already done so in the past and the millions that continue to do so today. You can't claim to be a political refugee while trekking all the way from Peru or Venezuela to the US, passing through several politically safe and stable countries along the way. That's an abuse of the asylum process! I don't really blame these asylum seekers however, for they're simply taking advantage of an open opportunity. Were I in their position, with nothing to lose and everything to gain, then I probably would have done exactly the same. Why go through the long and arduous process of applying for a greencard and then waiting 10 years for approval when you can simply waltz in through the southern border? I place the blame for this catastrophe squarely at the feet of those that continue to provide this lawless opportunity in the first place.

I grew up on the Texas/Mexico border. Migrants are some of the hardest working people anywhere. NY can take them in and put them to work. They won't be helping Texas with that state's big labor shortage.

Best way to protect boards is maybe a nice stain, then a few coats of polyurethane, maybe 3-5 coats depending on intended use. I prefer water based poly, sure it may take longer to dry but oil based tends to leave a bit of a yellow tint in my experience.

I live near the boarder and I have seen the destruction and death caused by people coming here illegally. It’s very sad and I empathize w/ the struggle they go through. With that being said the current administration has encouraged and led these people to believe it’s ok to disregard the process of legal entry. It’s crowd funded, many of the buses were donated & volunteers do the driving. Abbot is overwhelmed with donations to keep the burden very small to me as a tax payer in the state of TX. BTW, we don’t even have an income tax so if anything it would come out of property tax.
The federal government has been failing border states for decades by not providing enough properly trained and paid CBP border patrol agents, and by not applying the law as it's written. If someone crosses the border at a point other than a border post staffed by CBP agents, it is a CRIME. If these people really want to come here the right way, they need to take a number, and wait for their turn in Mexico, while they are properly interviewed and screened.

I just sold a family Rice farm, 10K+ acres. For decades we had to deal with our workers and their alcoholism, drug addictions and on and on. About 23 years ago I made the decision to hire immigrants. NEVER have we had better workers. No drugs, no alcohol, great attitudes. I set a trend, all adjacent farms are now all employing immigrants. So cry all you want, but companies need reliable workers. These people were given a bunch of papers that they were told to sign. They signed those papers without having read them thinking this was something they had to do to stay in the U.S.. Those people didn't understand that they had a choice. Most of them come from places where you do what you're told or else. So you have a governor in a state that is overwhelmed by immigrants sending them on to cities and states where by all accounts he can expect them to get the best treatment and be provided for. What is the alternative those against this policy can offer? Should he keep people in insufferable conditions within an overwhelmed local system that can not provide the care and due diligence owed to any human that falls into it? Should he send them to places that are opposed to their presence? A crisis is a crisis and while it is not an optimal solution it is at least the most humane handing the people he knows his system can no longer provide and account for to the systems that are by their own accord the most open to them and where they can expect the best legal protection and care for. Whatever his political motivations may be, at least he is not abandoning them in their plight and looks into where else they can receive the best care for elsewhere within the country
