I wonder how many people watching knew where Makarora was. I drove past the airfield on New Year's Day 1990 and remember seeing aircraft there on on the right heading south to Queenstown from Franz Josef. Anthony
Great map showing. Beaut country. I know the angst of a throttle spring failure. I fly a Savage Cub on my Flt Sim and all too often the bloo*y throttle plays up. Art imitating life !!!
Thanks Kynan. Great video. My wife and I are just back from a 5 day driving visit round your neck of the woods and nice to see the airfields available. We stayed in Cromwell for a night and really loved the Heritage Precinct. I fly out of Whitianga in a Zenair 601 and am trying to visit as many airstrips as I can up this way. Will be down in Ashburton for Great Plains in Feb 2025 so might be able to do a visit to Cromwell and maybe Makarora. Might be a bit of a stretch to get there but will see.
Hi Gavin, thanks for watching! I definitely need to get up your way at some stage to do some flying. Will look up the Great Plains in Asburton and see if i can make it but definitely let me know if your back down south again. Cheers
Mate, who needs Trent Palmer? Good stuff. I was born in Wanaka and walked all those hills from the Neck to Mak. Good content and the breakdown was cool as well. Keep going. Subscribed.
Thanks Mark! Haha, i wish i could film, edit and talk to a camera like trent palmer! he’s definitely made a big impact on backcountry flying. Thanks for your feedback. Are you still in NZ?
@@kynanyu over in Albury, Australia now, learning to fly at the moment. About to do 1st XC Nav. I get back every once or twice every year and am looking forward to doing Big Bay and Milford. Had my first flight in a Ziln the other day funnily enough. Awesome stuff! Beautiful flying. Will be doing the endo straight after PPL
Good morning mate. Just calling from inland Canterbury. Usual story. Stumbled on your channel, like and subscribed. Didn't realise there was an airfield down there. I've got a mate moved to the valley and asked her how close she is to the airfield. No answer yet. I might hitch a ride down from up here. Had a heart event about 8 years back, so can't get a medical and fly myself. Yep xxit happens. Take care mate, until next time.
Hi Kynan Thanks for the videos. As a microlight flying North Islander it's very interesting and whets the appetite for South Island. Could you tell me the make of your helmet..looks great .
So good down here for flying, the terrain varys so much in a short distance. it’s a helmet iI got through skycowboysuplyco.com , I just did a quick video on it too
Nice video, just found your channel. Any chance you could include more radio calls? Im studying towards my licence now so would find it interesting and helpful - help train the ear to radio calls.
Hi Mate, thanks for watching! Unfortunately we can’t legally record radio calls between other aircraft or ATC in NZ. I will occasionally add the calls between me and my mates flying together with their permission. There is an app called Live ATC and you can listen in on live radio calls from different countries. Good luck on your training!
yep, it’s a SAR rescue helmet. I bought it off a company in the US, Skycowboy supply company. they sell the helmets and brackets to take Bose and Lightspeed headsets or do them complete too. Cheers
Hi mate, it would have held the rpm that was set when it failed and then reduced as normal for landing it wouldn’t have come back up fully if I need it for a go around ect. It would have only had the right hand side carb working correctly when trying to power back up as the spring tension is there to pull the throllle lever on the carby when the throttle cable is push on if that makes sense. Cheers for watching
Thanks! A bit of both, have a few mates with aircraft and also try make as many AOPA flyins as I can get too as well. Often out for an hour of two by myself once a week.
