The Legend of the Snake will live on forever. When football was barbaric and the men who played it were warriors, Ken Stabler was a King. Love and miss you Snake! Go Raiders!
God I love the raiders of the seventies and Ken stabler incredible. Curt Gowdy calling the play against Miami just classic he was one of the best announces in the world
Gowdy was the Best.not one of.he stood alone.... especially on the call of the 1972 Raiders @ Pit. divisional game and the Miraculous reception by Franco Harris,Pit 10-7F....sorry Raider fans.
The greatest Raider of them all, One of the ALL-TIME greats at QB, Ken Stabler stepped on that field to win but at the same time no one had more fun doing it, I was so glad to see him get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, It was much deserved and long overdue! Three years ago we lost a true legend in Ken Stabler, The Snake was simply AWESOME!!
@@michaelreed2293 Lamonica was not better than Stabler, lol. Daryle couldn't read zone defenses, floundered after the merger and should have been replaced a year earlier by Kenny but Al Davis was too stubborn. And Branch and Casper were not QBs, enough said.
@@michaelreed2293 "There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies, and statistics." If you knew the game, you would hang your head in shame, but you obviously do not. Stay ignorant, son.
That man would drop back to pass, do his check downs, delivered the ball only like he could with that left hand, the ball would be there. Many a QB have only scratched the surface compared to Ken Stabler. I have been to many of his games along with many other teams games and I can tell you, there's no comparison, he was a Classic & very cool to watch! Thanks Kenny & Good Bless you, your family and all who knew you.
In those days, I routinely watched five football games a week. Two college games on Saturday, two pro games on Sunday, and Monday Night Football. I don't watch nearly as much nowadays. I don't much care for the players, the way the games are presented, or the way it's played. Before computers and plays called from upstairs, quarterbacks called their own plays. No one I ever saw was better than The Snake. He was the best of his era, and my favorite athlete of all time. I'm a sad man today. Wherever you are Kenny, thank you for making our lives a little brighter. You were really, really something. There will never be another one like The Snake.
Coming from a Minnesota Viking fan..."Snake" was the shit! He truly was GREAT! He should have been put into The Hall of Fame 15-20 years before he did! Also what about the great #21 at WR, Cliff Branch! He also has 3 RINGS! with the #'s! HOF for sure!
It's either Snake or Marcus Allen. No other Raider players had more direct hands in contributing to the Raiders winning tradition as far as wins and Super Bowls than those two.
I am glad that he finally made the Hall of Fame but I wish he got in while he was still alive. He was the QB that you would want on your team when the game was on the line. So many clutches performances.
I lost count of how many comeback wins SNAKE had. He was great. I'm glad I got to see him play(though it was a pre-season game) one of my all time sporting moments in my lifetime. RIP Ken Stabler.
The passing of The Snake is very sad indeed, but watching videos like this is a great way to honor him. Why he's not in the HoF is beyond me. More NFL bullshit politics. Man the Raiders had some great teams in the 70's!
Today's stat-mongers have no idea how great Ken Stabler was in the '70s. He's in the Hall of Fame not just because of all of his big games but because he made the NFL famous.
Can you imagine what his stats would be with today’s rules. He was always among the top 3 in stats during the 70s. I think he led the NFL in passing rating in 73, 74, and 76. I know he finished 2nd in 77
Snake's induction into the HOF was delayed because his legacy was tarnished when Plunkett won 2 SBs after his departure. But the AFC was weak in the early 1980s, with not a Miami or Pitts. to go thru.
those were the days my friend, and now their gonna end. december 15th 2019. the last game of the OAKLAND RAIDERS in the OAKLAND COLISEUM. las vegas or LA. a raiders fan i will stay.
Rip, you brought great memories to us all. Al davis took second chances on many players. Most rose to the occasion. I'm waiting on a resurgence. Put it on the line boys, we will take you in Oklahoma City.
Please people get it right. It's not the snake it's just "Snake". Kenny "Snake" Stabler. When you say the snake people who don't know better think oh jake plummer. Which in my opinion is an attempt to steal that nickname which rightfully belongs to Kenny Stabler.
You forgot to mention what happened about a minute and a half after Stablers 30 yard touchdown run?....real fans would know for sure?....Yes indeed.it was Franco's miraculous catch,it was the 1972 divisional Playoffs at three Rivers Stadium..Pit won,10-7!
why would a Raider fan like myself mention that missed call by the refs that caused the Immaculate Christmas Present for Steeler fans. And you obviously don't entirely know for sure, the score was 13-7 not 10-7........lol.
Ken had the WOW! factor. He kept us on the edge of our seats. I met him twice. The first time was in Birmingham, AL at a book signing for "The Snake." The other time we were both drunk as hell at AJ's in Destin, FL. He was a gentleman and a party animal! A true legend, who I wish had seen his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction while he was still alive. RIP Snake.
He was a big part of one of the most illustrious franchises in pro football history - teams that played some of the most dramatic and historic games in all of football. They may now be a Vegas team, but Oakland fans had them when football was real - when it was gutsy. That's something to savor. As an aside, outside of Daryl Lamonica for a brief period, I never saw another player with that type of facemask. It resembles the types used by backs and linebackers of the 1960s. Examples would be Raymond Berry of the Colts, Joe Namath, of course, and 49ers' linebacker, Dave Wilcox.
Good eye, Tom. Also on that Super Bowl III Jet team with that facemask were DB Johnny Sample and WR George Sauer, as well as Cowboys RB Duane Thomas in Super Bowl V and Raiders RB Kenny King in Super Bowl XV.
Don't forget Raider fans, He was a Crimson Tide player 1st, tho it was a long time ago, we never forget ours. RIP Snake you are much loved and will be sorley missed. Not just by Tide and Raider fans but by NFL and CFB fans all across the country. RIP friend. Roll Tide 4ever
The snake is right. I watched him throw a game. Oilers vs jets. The oilers we're 2 touchdown favorites, and he threw multiple interceptions to wide open defensive backs.
Oh, shut up. Bradshaw had many multiple INT losses. Staubach threw three picks in Super Bowl X. Tarkenton threw 2 INTs in Super Bowl XI. And let's not get started on Bret Favre.
i am not a university of alabama fan. just curious why the yr he led the tide to an undefeated season is never mentioned. as for his pro career, well most of know. i feel he is borderline h.o.f. but probably should be in. did the snake have a better pro career then say phil simms? phil simms is borderline and im not giants fan.
Why do you compare a guy who led the NFL in TD passes twice, led the league in passer rating, was NFL MVP twice, was All-Pro, was one of the three QBs named to the All-Decade team ('70s) and made four Pro Bowls to Phil Simms? What was your thought process that led to that ridiculous question?
