I think the most amazing thing is that Noel was able to perform while he was so obviously infuriated with Liam. Noel showed so much professionalism here.
Love Liam, he is an icon, and he did contribute to Oasis with his style, his voice, and his image, but that is right out of order to Noel, but to be fair Noel still absolutely smashed it in the performance, he was brilliant
Nothing legendary about that.. Especially the actual gig where Liam is watching from the balcony.. What a complete prick...Good voice though but he is a twat.

Despite loving both I would always consider myself ‘team Liam’ but I really feel for Noel at 2:14 he looks genuinely embarrassed and angry about Liam when he tells him to shut up.

@biblical - I agree. I've been hard on Noel in the past but Liam's behaviour was unacceptable and I understand why Noel feels he could never forgive his brother for that. Noel performed beautifully.
@@mselectricalstorm1 He was very forgiving. Noel was too forigiving, he understood his brother most of the time and still made records with the band. But now he just couldn't carry on with this bad attitude Liam has towards him.
Moekka Mies stop trying to be pretentious I mean Laynes voice is beautiful in there mtv unplugged but the best and most moving mtv unplugged is Nirvanas. Wether you like them or not that performance is the absolutely pinnacle of mtv unplugged. I’d say Nirvana - Alice in chains - Stone temple pilots - Pearl Jam - Oasis

I read an interview from Noel which was interesting as they know each other the most in the whole Planet,basically Noel said Liam thinks he isn't worthy or wasn't worthy of breaking America so sub-consciously self destructed it, but to Noels credit he is the ultimate professional, they're his songs and he nailed and put Liam in his place. Great performance truly.
Personally, I'm so glad Liam never played this gig. It's one of my favourite live sessions they've done and I'm glad Noel got a chance to shine and sing his songs the way they're meant to be sung! Liam never deserved to be on the stage with them that night
although I'm curious to what Liam would've sounded like when his voice was still good, I too am glad Noel sang it on the unplugged, he was very very good
The band really missed Liam's tambourines. I always wished Noel booted Liam earlier and most of Oasis with him. The only person who could actually play live was Noel. They were so bad, Noel had to hire studio musicians to record the album. Once Liam's voice gave out in the mid 90s, he was useless as well.

As much as I want to hear what it would sound like with Liam, I think it’s almost a good thing he didn’t sing, as Noel had a chance to sing his own songs and just have a decent time. It must be shit sometimes to write a class song and then have to hand it over to someone else to sing. Good to hear Noel sing these tunes.
SolsticeMelody dude thats a very ignorant comment, the reason why they didn't make it in america was because they were so fucking stuck with "grunge" that they ignored everything that was going around. So it was almost impossible.
I guess Noel had to put up with those kinds of antics for years and years. That was totally unprofessional of Liam. He probably regrets it now, but then he was in his "tonite I'm a rock and roll star" kind of phase, which ironically meant he could't perform with his band or sing.

matmc71 given the video is about mtv unplugged where liam didn't sing because he had a sore throat, i thought it would of been obvious i was being sarcy. i will leave it to the pub from now on ;-)
I reckon Liam intentionally self-sabotaged his own performance here, the magic in his voice comes from pushing it until it hits gravel, for that it needs to be loud, put simply he knew he'd sound wet trying to do those songs anything but full throttle and probably knew it the minute everyone started tickling 'unpluggedly' around him so conjured up some imaginary dissatisfation as an excuse to bow out and save face, this is probably why he sat at the back to get an idea how loud it actually was and being satisfied he wouldn't stand out as much a sore thumb as he initially thought he decides to retake his place, longterm legend is way more than any one performance for these guys, you do what you have to to navigate both, in this case L knew N had it default covered, knowing that like only a brother does allows L to be L, to be unfair is to say (should my ideas be anywhere near truth) this gig exposed L's limits as a singer, Kurt could pull it off, even singing softly he'd carry that appealing rasp, but to be fair (or even affording too much credit) this was a well dodged bullet, it caused a kerfuffle that we're still talking about it if not for the 'right reasons' - the crowd got a show the were happy with and Liam got to rockstar on artistically unstained
the arrogant attitude may have added to their rockstar persona but you really need to be professional and that was his undoing imo. he should've attended rehearsals & gigs & most important do a daltrey and tried to preserve his voice for as long as possible by not drinking or smoking
Seriously have you never heard of the nirvana unplugged show? Regarded as one of the best live shows ever. Of course it was their chance to shine why do you think they wanted to do it. Nirvana show will live on forever while oasis's show will be remembered cos the lead singer acted like a twat.

This was such a sad moment for Oasis. Noel deserved waaay more credit for performing so lovely, on last minute notice. I honestly believe Liam got cold feet - he isn't as confident as he likes to lead on....Noel has said that he was literally dying on stage....like, he wanted to die, he was so upset. Oasis could have been equally as big in the USA and it wasn't for Noel's lack of effort and determination...there were other "forces" at play that prevented that from happening.....
it's just the liam that we all love.. for me the attitude is something that just made this megaband even more interesting. most bands have no personality at all, just boring as fuck.
For everyone saying liam is a legend or liam is a clown, this was not about going all rock n roll bad boy; Noel said in an interview that after the gig Liam admitted he didn’t feel confident about singing in acoustic. He should have said it before committing to do the unplugged, but I guess Noel and everyone would have pushed him to do it anyway, so he decided to drink and act careless. Yes he may just seem cocky sometimes but it was not all about that...
The whole thing is quite comical, Liam sitting in the crowd heckling his own band, pissed out of his head, but this gig would've elevated the band to a new height in America. Massive missed opportunity.
I feel like Liam went through Oasis having a blast while Noel wrote the music, and once Noel left Liam realised how good he had it and has wanted it back ever since
It shouldn't, but this just makes me like Liam more, and did at the time. And that longer clip of him heckling from the balcony is great...Also that clip of him singing Wonderwall sounded absolutely fine. Amazing compared to 2006 Liam.
Songwriter singing his songs, they way it was meant to be. One of the best unplugged concerts, it's too bad drugs and arrogance dulled the creative spark of Oasis after this. Noel Gallagher has really come into his own now though, he sounds better than ever.
You’ve just played Knebworth and then you get asked to play a small gig for MTV. Where’s the motivation in that ? It suited Noel better anyway so everyone is a winner .
