My experience with a continuous glucose monitor and oatmeal is that when it was just plain with salt and butter my blood glucose went way way way up! When I simply added a decent amount of cinnamon, it stayed very even. This was a repeated result from doing it repeatedly.
*I had very high blood sugar I only managed to improve my health when I found a WONDERFUL treatment, if you want to know about it, I left the video in the comment reply*
Hi, can you try the oatmeal outcome again with usual healthy items? Add protein(greek yogurt/milk/protein powder) and healthy fats(nuts, peanut butter) and fruits (blueberries/bananas.
As a kid our morning oatmeal was always served with a pat of butter and topped with whole milk a little shake of cinnamon and sugar. Still my favorite.
I add 1 cup of frozen lueberries and 30 grams of protein scoop. My glucose went from 89 mg to 95-100 mg after checking little over 2 hrs. For me, this was not bad and maneagable. Like you said, the steel cut or rolled oats combined with the protein may have slowed the spike. I eat this every morning btw. And my A1C is 5.2. 49 years old and very active. Thank you for testing!
Thank you so much for your video! I have been so torn if I have to give up oatmeal because what all the “experts” say. For those that don’t know….I know it may sound weird but if you add in a scrambled egg into oatmeal you will get the creamiest oatmeal you have ever eaten! So good. 😋The trick is… when your oats are almost done cooking add a 1/4 cup of cold water in one spot, in that same spot pour your egg in and start stirring like crazy. This way you don’t end up with scrambled eggs in your oatmeal. You will start to see your oatmeal become a creamier consistency as you stir and it cooks. Only takes a minute. It won’t taste eggy either. I’d love to see how adding the egg would change your results.
I just fold in the raw egg when the hot oats are almost cooked. The egg will cook perfectly. Don't forget to add salt and black pepper, real butter (or a bit of olive oil). I also love to add a finely chopped clove of garlic sometimes. Be adventurous... try a spoonful of Chinese oyster sauce or a dash of soy sauce.
Ooh.😯Cool. Never thought to have savory oatmeal! I’ve added the egg but always added sweet ingredients like cinnamon, peanut butter, sweetner and some banana. Thanks for the idea!
I make an oatcake pancake … cook the oats, add a raw egg and then cook on the frypan with butter like a pancake. serve with cream and just a few berries. Delish … and keeps you sated for a few hours.
Unfortunately I have type 2 very close to type 1 A1C levels these videos are greatly appreciated I have been prescribed a G6 monitor it is very fortunate that I have one it watches me like a hawk and I am lowering that high A1C😢
I add a TBLS of ground flax, some berries, pecans/walnuts, cinnamon, tsp vanilla, vanilla protein & TBLS grass fed butter. Stabalizes my blood sugar and tastes fantastic ❤
@@deedebdoo I wouldn't count spices' carb or fiber content. Most people would only have a small amount, so it is very negligible. The effect it has on BG is beneficial via Glut4 AMPK and activation of PPARs.
Some studies say yes something no. One recent study that founded did help, but look how much you have to take: The 500mg of cinnamon was put in capsules. Patients had to use two capsules after breakfast and dinner. 500 mg is a half a teaspoon. So you would have to take one teaspoon on your breakfast and 1 tsp before dinner.
@@violalopez2735 1/2 cup organic coaches oats, 1/2 cup almond vanilla milk unsweetened, 1/4 cup non fat Greek yogurt, 1Tbs chia seeds, bananas slices, blueberries or strawberries, a little maple syrup 1tsp, I top with a little nutbutter (nut zero) put in fridge overnight (stir well) done.
Most people don't know that organic farming used pesticides that are derived from nature. And many of these are rather toxic and yes they stay on the plants. That means it does get in the organic food that you buy.
Wearing the continuous monitor is an excellent educational tool for diabetics even if you are not using insulin. My husband is type 2 diabetic and has a free trial for 2 weeks (one sensor). It’s extremely helpful to have the constant feedback while testing certain foods and meals. Highly recommend!
@@gracegwozdz8185 He feeds himself whatever he wants. Lol. That’s been the problem. But now that he can see and understand the immediate effects of his choices, he’s finally on board with making the changes that I have been trying to implement for so long! I’m not the bad guy anymore. I don’t want to be the “warden”. That approach was not working. Now we are doing low carb and he’s doing great! His numbers are improving! 😊👍. It’s been a month now since we started the sensors.
@@gracegwozdz8185That is rather sexist. So the woman's the only one who gives food to the man? I'm sure he's quite capable of cooking for himself or even just getting non-cooked food for himself. Why blame the wife?
You probably hit a nerve. Before you put it on your arm you have to really clean the area. I use 2-3 alcohol pads just to make sure. Then make sure it is dry before you put it on. Please believe me it is worth to try it again. Don't give up.
Hell yeah I do a breakfast burger patty and then I put olive oil butter in the oatmeal. Makes it so much richer and effective for keeping me full in the morning
i'm type 2....and 78...work out and lift weights...my A1C has been 7.1-7.4 for years.. i finger poke 3 times a day. my doc put me on ozempic to lower my A1C...boy howdy did it in 4 weeks down to 6.1...however, my sugar is all over the place because food isn't even in my stratisfer...now i'm scared and have an appt w my doc to work this out...my first thing is to get off ozempic...NOT FOR ME...I love i found your channel for type 1 folks...some of this works for me too..
Portion control!!!! I have found what ever the suggested serving size is, eat half that. I have been diabetic, T2, for over 20 years. There are lots of "tricks" such as freezing things first, eating extra fat and fiber (slows down the entry of the carbs) but portion control is what works for me. I eat everything. My Fasting this morning was 85, though I usually am around 100. Had chocolate cake last night too, small portion.
@@sugarplumk2381 Because butter is not unhealthy at all. Plus, the fat slows down the insulin response of the carbs in the oats......and finally, butter just makes them taste even better.
@@spanishpeaches2930and as fat helps you feel satiated, you feel even fuller eating this with oats in you would just plain oats which are usually feeling. So you don't feel like eating for hours.
That's great news! After the rolled oats are done cooking, I like to top it with plain whole fat greek yogurt (protein and live cultures are great for me) and stevia for sweetness. I'd love to see a video on how these effect your levels, thank you for your consideration!
Organic steel cut oats are the least processed and the most delicious. I make five portions in the slow cooker in four hours. (add Stevia, Next milk, blueberries and toasted shaved almonds).
I add chia if making overnight oats (time for expansion) but mostly ground flaxseeds or hemp seeds to my morning rolled oats. Most people add them because they have Omega 3. Nothing to do with glucose.
Thank U 4 the videos 🙏 The rolled oats worked better than Steel Cut. Can U please try protein & also Oat Bran (the granular type) not light flakes. All the best 👍keep up the great work.🌟
That’s good to know. I had regular oatmeal this morning and it did spike my blood sugar so then I thought I was not going to be able to eat any more oatmeal rolled oats good to know👍
Did you measure the oats? If so, how much did you consume? A serving size is 1/2 cup, which is 27 g of carbohydrates, four of which are fiber. I eat properly measured serving sizes of everything I eat, including my steel cut oats, and yet they still significantly raise my blood sugar. I never had sugar or sweeteners 0 to my oatmeal and always at a protein and a fat.
Great! I'm a person who would not like to have sugary food, sweets, or just avoiding anything that can make blood sugar high, so i shall continue having my oates! Thank you! ❤
To prevent it from spiking you must eat it cold, so do sprouted organic oats and add some fat like chia or flax seeds add cinnamon and no carb protein like grassed whey protein, let sit in refrigerator… and you don’t need to eat a whole cup of oats 1/2 cup is enough
Can you do one with oatmeal that has other foods in it? Maybe blueberries, nuts, and some sweetener? Curious to see if that would spike. Thanks. I Love your content. I was diagnosed with IR, and most content is about supplements. I appreciate that you take the time to show realistic foods and how it affects the body. Thank you! Soooo helpful
Surprisingly diagnosed as pre-diabetic last year, I love your content, just found your shorts. If you haven’t already done it, would you do cows’ milk vs oat milk? I keep being told I need to switch back to cows’ milk.
Thank you for what you do. I am pre-diabetic and don’t want get to the next stage. I love the idea of testing different foods to see how those foods may or may not raise your glucose. Can you tell me which glucose monitor you are using please?
