World Mechanics my obd2 will get power in certain positions; at an angle or with slight pressure applied. Will not get power plugged in normally. Vehicle is a 2014 320i xdrive (F30/N20). Will I need to repair the actual port? I’m lost

You just saved me hours and hours of aggravation. I my case it was corrosion on the load side of the fuse so the fuse tested good using a voltmeter. When I replaced the fuse, the car started right up. Thank you!

It's not always the fuse. Sometimes it can be due to a poor connection in the car's internal wiring.

What about if the OBD port has power and grounds. It also has 60ohms of resistance (terminator resistors for communications). Yet it still will not send any data to scanners. Any idea what you think the issue is?

Thanks for this advice guys. For me and my 2009 MK7 Ford Transit, the issue wasn't the Aux or cigar lighter fuses but the interior lamp fuse (#72), labelled as battery saver/OBD II (D'oh!). As soon as I fitted a new fuse, bingo! I am SO relieved, as I thought I'd bought a non-compatible reader.

What can we diagnose if the ODB Port does power the scanner, but it is unable to read data in any mode (Car ignition on, Car ignition off, Engine on, Engine off) The car (A3 8L 1997) is on the compatible vehicles list

Having a problem with my Opel Astra G's obd2 port. Tried several different scanners and plug in Bluetooth adapters where you have to download an app to your android phone in which to use the scanner. No joy with any of them. It provides power to whatever device is plugged into the port, but none of the devices I've tried will communicate with the ECU on my car. Always says failed to connect. Any help regarding this issue would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

@@Laikipian I later found out that expensive obd 2 scanners work on my 03 astra, but still no joy with my own scanners. Seems to differ from year of manufacture. My 03 astra won't comunicate with the scanner, but yet my 04 astra will work with the same cheaper scanners perfectly. They're both the same car, just a years difference. Annoying. If your car is vauxhaull, then you may need to get OP-COM

Thanks! My front accessory fuse in my 2004 Rendezvous was blown. It was because a penny fell into the cigar lighter socket. OBD reader is working now.

Good vid .. Ive had a problem with my Honda CRVMk3 OBD2 socket not working with handheld scanners. There are no fuses blown and no faults anywhere. Thing is, Ive just tried it with a cheap ELM327 off ebay via bluetooth and you wont believe, it works..!! so really dont know why the handheld scanners wont connect yet they work with my Seat Ibiza

PLEASE HELP ME! I put a jumper(paperclip) between #4 and #8 on the OBD2 on my 03 cadillac seville to program a new key fob, and since mine didn't have an 8 I decided to try #7(dumb move) now my Trunk/fuel door bottons dont work and just realized today that My OBD2 isn't working either. Ive already checked every single fuse and relay and still nothing. Everything else works good so I doubt it if I nessed up the computer. What else can I check. Thanks

My problem is something like this :- m.facebook.com/russell.booth.372/albums/541123729410631/ The Chevy LS1 engine is a pre CAN OBD2 setup & all the scan tools that I bought don't read codes on the SAE J1850 VPW protocol (General Motors) but they read the later CAN vehicles which was very late 2004+ with the Holden Alloytec V6 engine, it wasn't until the LS2 or L76 engine was fitted ( late 2005+) that the V8 engines ran the CAN OBD ECUs. The Autel AL519 is meant to be one of the you beaut latest generation scan tools but I have to send it back today because it will only read live data but no codes.

vW Jetta Mk5 2010 diesel comfortline model, I would like to know actually what is the difference between different relay, because currently in my there is only one relay which is on A1(644), can I replace with any other relay? I'm planning to change as I m getting error code in obd2, terminal 30 error code- 00927, Alarm horn(h12) error code-01134 and right rear Abs wheel sensor error code-00287, can you please help me out further, also if possible can you share fuse diagram of vW jetta mk5 diesel comfortline. Ok, this might have solved my problem, like that my obd2 socket isn't working, and watching this video, my AUX socket has no power, I just figured it wasn't a powered socket, but thinking about it, it really should be, in order to read stuff. So I'm going to check this out and I'll update below 🤞

I checked my fuses and they're all good and have power going thru. But when I start, it's still hard and if I do manage to start it. It'll have really rough idle and stall out within 30s

MY OBD2 port has no signal . 1998 BMW 540i. Checked fuses and they tested good. My round 20 pin OBD connection in the engine bay works just fine. I had one code for evap urge control valve/ fuel tank breather valve. This should have thrown a check engine light but it didn't. I'm guessing because the OBD2 is not working. Any suggestion for the OBD2? I need to get my DMV smog emission test done and they need to connect to OBD2. Thanks.

On Mazda 6 2006 2.3L the K-Line is not working, outputs 1.6V. I disconnected ABS, SRS, ECU, Lights there is not change. What can be causing this? Resistance pins 5 and 7 is 730ohms.

Can anyone help? In my Hummer H2 the connection provides electricity to OBD scanner, so light turns on but it never connects to the car to read the codes etc. What should I do and how should I proceed with trouble shooting? Any help is appreciated.

Sam Sen Is your tester capable of testing your car? Are the fuses o.k.? Is your tester o.k.? Look on Google for help. Go to AutoZone if the light is on. Hook up a test light to the disconnected battery cable to clamp and see if there's a short if the light comes on. Check the fuse to the ECM. Check if your car might be a different year. Dial in a year newer or older. Is the computer bad? Test the 2 points on the fuse if the test light comes on with key-on. Check with a test light to the fuse connector with the fuse removed with the key-on. One should light.

Hi i got issue with suzuki splash 2008 1.3 diesel In the morning i tried to turn on the ignition on, there no lights apeared on the dash, trying to start the engine its cranking but doesn't start. Tried to connect 2 different diagnostic tools it doesn't even connects. Obd port doesn't respond. Do you know what happend with it?

If fuse is NOT the reason for this, can the cubus module be the next culprit if the issue? Bc i have a code lost cominication w the ECM/pcm!! But at that time i was able to use the scaner to get this codes aling with other codes all w letter P u!!! Cominicatiin codes!! So i am thinking it has to be no signal to the ob2 port from the cunbus module!! I cheked cig lighter guse was blowen and changed it w same 20 A fuse but still no signal to the scan tool nd no light on the scan tool ! Nothing !! Any suggestions pls will be appreciated! TOTALLY OVERCOMPLICATED.ONCE THE CARBURETTOR MIXTURE IS LEAN AS MUSTARD JUICE,CAR RUNNING PERFECTLY.ONCE YOU'VE GOT SIXTY TO A HUNDRED SENSORS AND ONE GOES IT STUFFS UP A PERFECTLY GOOD CAR AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY OR EQUIPMENT THE CAR IS BASICALLY WASTED.AS BLOODY USUAL.JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE,THE VERY THING ITSELF CAUSED THE ACTUAL PROBLEM!

I knew that and I checked the fuse. Still not working. Is there anther fuse inside of it or somewhere else? I know I shorted it when I hooked up a can scanner to it and had a loose wire from my db9 to obd2 conector. And the wires touched for a split second. I have a 2020 mercedes sprinter 2500 extended.

I'm trying to troubleshoot the OBD connector on a 2009 Saturn Aura. I've checked out fuses in the passenger compartment, the engine compartment, and in the trunk. All seemed okay. I also checked voltage at the pins on the connector and there were 12 volts across a few of the pins. Not sure what to think at this point. Any suggestions?

@@rd7264 Mine ended up being a bad sensor. I replaced the bad sensor and was immediately able to communicate.

4 years after your post I fixed a non working OBD port on 06 HD2500 truck. Wondered why only one of the power ports worked. Now I have two power ports that work and I have cleared a couple problems with my OBD reader. Thank you!!!!!!!!

This will not always work. You can find that the fuses are fine that control the OBD 2 and still won’t send a signal to any scanner

Aww, come on! This fix is supposed to fix EVERY symptom from every make, every model, and every year! Awesome, and helpful Guidance/Video. You are certainly a World Mechanic! Well I do have a similar problem, and the Scanners, does light up, yet it says No Link! After 20 years, for the first time I removed a Fuse Box cover and saw an OBD fuse, not in place 7.5 amp it is the first time I even found that Fuse Panel. I believe it is for another model, and everything came as-is from Japan. 2002 Toyota Corolla 1,5 NZR-121 FE. Are the Scanners Lighting up because it has direct power, and the 7.5 amp Fuse is needed is my question? Anyway, I used at least 6 different models OBD ll, same. Thanks for sharing your Video!

Thank you! I knew the cigarette lighter fuse was accidentally popped when metal recently fell into the open socket. But I never thought of that as the reason why two OBD scanners would not work. Great tip, and thanks again!

I remember a few months ago, I was trying to get a key fob to work. Had to short out a couple deals on the OBD connection. It did spark a little. I checked the cigarette fuse. Sure enough it was bad. Replaced the fuse, worked like a champ. Many Thanks.

Yote Smoker Check the cigarette lighter if the fuse blows. It can short and cause the fuse to blow.

Get a Actron CP9680 to further test codes and diagnose. It does graphing, record, live, ABS, SRS, transmission tests, and MORE! It has code-connect to diagnose codes. The CP9690 is for OBDI and OBDII. It has cables for OBDI Ford, G.M., Chrysler, and 2 Toyota. It uses small aa batteries. Get a wall charger cable for a Tom Tom One GPS to review results in your home. EBAY has it. On the live test, if it says 'incomplete', that means you need to drive it some more to complete the test.
