www.playbill.com/video Janet Metz ("Stars of David," "Once Upon a Mattress," "Fiddler on the Roof") is another in the long list of folks Seth Rudetsky has known forever, so it was a given that she'd eventually be invited in for an episode of OBSESSED! Here, she joins him in studio to sing a tune from "Me and My Girl" that was her go-to audition song from years past. Then, Seth has her perform a musical fix to a track from the cast recording of James Lapine and William Finn's "Falsettoland," where her belted high notes were lost in the mix.

And they did this AGAIN on the Falsettos revival cast recording. Also, I need that Falsettoland bootleg desperately.

If Seth is obsessed with high notes, he needs to see the bootleg from the final performance of Legally Blonde where Kate Shindle belts a C6.

John T. mixing isn't the same as belting ://

emilia It is actually considered a type of belting. It's the healthiest way to do so.

Emilia Grace Bland mix belting is a type of belting. Just like full chest. Belting isn’t a register it’s a vocal style. Similar to classical/legit style.

I saw her in Joseph when I was 11. At first I didn't want to go because I wasn't really into watching musical theater. Well obviously I was forced to go. The first thing we heard was Janet Metz singing the prologue, and I remember commenting on how good her voice was. By the end of the show I was grinning ear to ear. I loved it so much. I even bought the soundtrack in the theater, and we listened to it on the way home. I loved her voice so much that I never forgot her name. I had looked her up a few times but didn't find anything. It was by chance that I came across this video. VERY exciting to hear from her.

Same here. I didn't actually see her on stage; we performed this musical at my middle school. I loved the songs, so I went to a music store, and this was the only one I could find, but its stayed with me ever since then, especially because of Janet Metz's mesmerizing voice.

I am obsessed with "the" Scott Alan commenting on this and with your response!! Your Music + Her Voice would be an amazing combo. Also, side note, I want to see her play Margaret White.

oh man. I have had the Toronto recording of Joseph since I was a kid and always wondered why the narrator wasn't a huge broadway star. Did a google search today and found this video. Thanks, Seth, for always finding the diamonds in the rough and showcasing them for the world to see. Love your series and love Janet Metz!

I saw Janet in Joseph as the Narrator back in 1992 (maybe 1993) in Toronto. She was absolutely awesome. 20 years later she still looks and sounds awesome! If anyone has clips of her in Joseph many people would LOVE to watch

I've rewatched this video so many times - but finally seen Janet and Donny in action. I wish I'd had seen you in Joseph back then! x

I saw Janet in the 1992 Toronto performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was beyond amazing!!! I was 5(almost 6) years old and it jump started my love of music, musicals and singing and is to this day my favourite musical. I've since seen other performances but Janet Metz and Donny Osmond's performances trump them all!!! There's no other way to describe her voice other than outstanding and phenomenal.

That was the original key for "Jacob and Sons". Laurie Beecham had it transposed DOWN a third.
@Keith_Petersen_Actor
@Keith_Petersen_Actor 5 лет назад
Neither. Its the original key and Laurie Beechman just changed the melody. She riffed to cover up not hitting an E. she even belts it sometimes
@Blazingstoke
@Blazingstoke 5 лет назад
I never saw that production, so I can't speak to how it was performed live, but on the cast album Laurie Beecham sings "Jacob and Sons" in C, instead of the original E. (Showing here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n8iyR8uh5IM.html )
@Keith_Petersen_Actor
@Keith_Petersen_Actor 3 года назад
@@Blazingstoke I'm pretty sure the key was brought UP after Laurie since she was the first woman to do the role. She sang the Ebs like a narrator nowadays might sing a G.
@Blazingstoke
@Blazingstoke 3 года назад
@@Keith_Petersen_Actor She may have been the first woman to sing the role, but my point is that ever since the very first recording, when _Joseph_ was still a concert piece rather than a stage musical, "Jacob and Sons" was in E. In all the stage productions and albums in the 1970s, it was in E. It was transposed down to C for Beecham, then returned to the original key of E for the productions in the '90s.

Seth serious question!! I'm really confused on which Bb she is actually singing!! My ear must be playing tricks on me! But is this only the Bb above middle C?? Cause I'm confused because I don't think belting the octave up from that-- but I think it is-- please help me sleep at night and tell me what note she is actually singing!! Thank you soo much, PS I love you, and I'm getting a classical education in piano performance and am planning to move to NY after college- 😊
