I'm portuguese and in my history classes I have never heard about this operation. Such a shame. This was a really compelling story and needs to be more known.

To be fair, London does have a habit of appointing Mayors who are incompetent, negligent, corrupt, and helped ruin a country, at least Waterlow had the common courtesy to ruin someone else's country. Great video as always, no idea how you manage to produce such well researched, well edited videos so quickly. Keep up the good work!

I actually work at the place that printed that money, Zetland House in London. It's no longer a printing company, it's now full of startups, but the building is amazing and brimming with history - - and vaults, which were converted into meeting rooms.

This is a hilarious madcap story with the most tragic consequences. I found this on Reddit, and I am subscribbed.

How is this channel just over 12k subs? This deserves at least ten times more subs and views.

The text that flashes a 14:27 The explanation for why Waterlow and Sons just printed the same serial numbers without inquiring further is that they where under the impression that the money would go to Angola, The local AKA bank of Angola would have then printed the word Angola onto the money,. Since the banknotes would then be clearly distinguishable form regular 500 escudo notes that are already in circulation, they would not have needed a different serial number. This would basically have bee standard practice as far as I understood

The authorities who detected it should have dealt with it quietly. This has happened in other jurisdictions. They were smart to hush it up and deal with it quietly.

The ironic thing is I live within a few thousand feet of Sand plants which LITERALLY sells sand to the desert. The sand there is worn and can not be used and the middle east and egypt are some of the biggest buyers as they use it to make cement and concretes.

Many may have already told you this but you’ll blow up on RU-vid for sure. Such good quality and something that isn’t known even in Portugal!
