In “come as you are the story of Nirvana” it says that Chris “said it too effeminately” and that the host nervously laughed and bounced back. I don’t get the big deal wtf nothing happened
I don't think it's a matter of relying like Kurt was lacking something. Krist had his own ideas and was very outspoken. They were both very intelligent
@@duckhive I went on your RU-vid profile to get an idea of how old you are. You have playlists of Pokémon videos. I was 14 in 1991. You were….. NOT BORN LOL
Haha I said that about Marilyn Manson earlier but Kurt may be a better feet. Except lady GaGa is much more sane. career driven, and charitable. And more not face blown off by shotgun. But I love kurt, R.I.P buddy.
8:43 I love how kurt looked so bored during interviews, yawning at times, but when the interviewer said something he found interesting he quietly turned his head to listen carefully like when the guy says that lithium is his favorite song off the album and the "heavy replacements" thing.
It's funny watching this video now because back when it 1st aired I was only 7 years old. My older brother was around 12 and his friends would sleep over an watch Headbangers ball and me being the annoying little sister wanted to hang out with my big bro and his cool friends. One night I barged into his room and they were watching this interview. I had no idea who Kurt Cobain or Nirvana was yet an I asked my brother and his friends" Why is that guy dressed like a banana?" Lol..my brother got mad and kicked me out of his room. Now 25 years later I stumbled across this interview and seeing Kurt in that yellow ball gown and laughing because as a child I thought it was a damn banana costume. Later became a Nirvana fan but didn't see this interview again until recent years. Gotta love Kurt's sense of humor!
Nice story. I remember the day when I heard in the locker room how the older guys said that Kurt Cobain shot himself. I didn't know who it was then, just remembered it. A couple of years later, I first heard the music of Nirvana and became a big fan.
@alego 723 Lol ah yes because I have SO much to gain by lying right? Nah, I'm just reminiscing and sharing a childhood memory. Go back to lurking the incel subreddits you boring little shitstain. xx
Yes, sSoul_17, there was a lot of gay behaviour in Nirvana. Well spotted! Don't you just love that video where all three of them make out with each other?
First Name Last Name I know. :-) They were a pretty awesome bunch of politically active bisexuals who just so happened to make kickass rock and roll, too.
WyldeRatttz Kurt Cobain was not bisexual, he was straight as an arrow. He would have never been ashamed to admit he was bi if he was. He was just a staunch defender of LGBTQ rights, as well as women's rights and that of people of color.
Kurt looks like Belle from Beauty and the Beast with that yellow dress on. I love it. And Krist is prince charming. No corsage though Krist for your prom date? tsk tsk
Nirvana always had a chip on their shoulder about what they considered the sexist homophobic macho rock scene. I'm sure that they had some preconceived notions about the Headbanger's Ball audience and Kurt was trying to be somewhat provocative by showing up in a dress. Krist mentioning that the bands he liked have good political opinions was another clue about where their mindset was.
😂 That dress! Then when he said, "He didn't wear his tux, he didn't give me a corsage either." I fucking love Kurt Cobain so much, like I'm literally in physical pain thinking about the fact that this beautiful, brilliant man is no longer here.
Kris always displayed so much patience with the questions and the interviewers, it's remarkable. Not saying it was a rule, but there seemed to be a pattern where Kurt came over as defiant, sometimes slightly belligerent and Dave came across as cynical and already jaded. Good thing they had Kris in those interviews.
legend has it kurt cobain actually hid a small puppy in the microphone and trained it to specifically make this sound only at this time 6:56 crazy stuff, rock icon man.
I know right! Funny because I date somebody 15 years younger than me and they have no idea what MTV used to be like. hell, she didn't know the pound sign was the thing before a hashtag
+Christen Kimbell Yeah, so right. Recording TV programs on VHS was a ritual back then. But there was a long strech of time were those VHS tapes were obsolete, and the internet was not what it is in 2016. We've gone a long way with youtube and other streaming sites, collecting all those archives that were once taped by someone on VHS. One of the greatest perk of the "modern internet" is the archive. Everyone can now get educated on anything they want, including Nirvana. Or just get in nostalgia mood once in a while.
I still seem to feel the same way way as I did back when I was maybe 14 or 15 and saw this interview on TV; that Headbanger's Ball was a show that was becoming antiquated during the emergence of Nirvana and the grunge and alternative movement. And it was ever so subtly evident in this interview. Indeed the difference in generations can be seen when you visually compare the 80's look of Ricky vs the unpretentious t-shirt and jeans and flannels with no hairspray look of Nirvana and other grunge acts. The music Headbanger's Ball seemed to champion was the metal of the generations that came before and they'd gotten their start on hair metal bands of the 80's like Twisted Sister, and the LA scene of metal. onward towards the late 80's to early 90's you'd often see bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeath, Pantera and Sepultura, etc. But although Headbanger's Ball lost its relevance and was canceled around 94 or 5 as the grunge wave washed over the music scene, the hosts of the show still gave respect to the new generation of rock artists on the rise, as was also evident in the episode when Alice in Chains went to the Action Park water park with Headbanger's Ball too. That's something I appreciate. I think i took it for granted back then around the time Guns and Roses were ungracefully falling from relevance and bands like Metallica originally ripped on the new grunge bands that were coming out, before later on coming to appreciate and respect them and even morn them when they passed on. In summary when it's all said and done, rock music fans and bands share a camaraderie and respect for each other that, in the end, keeps the love of rock music alive across all generations.
Joshua Jones well said. I've always said Music I living thing constantly changing, growing, and evolving. Blues>rock and roll>Hair metal > grunge>90s>New metal>scene> emo>screamo> or something like that. I personally believe music in General but especially rock/GRunge/ underground type music Died when MySpace Died. I miss Old MySpace so much .I'd like to bring something similar to og MySpace back. I miss it so much.
Literally taking me back to my childhood. This interview was one of the best things I knew I’d ever see even at 10, I fell in love w/ Nirvana’s music, unique music videos & their incredibly great musical taste only to be heartbroken like all of us 💔🖤❤️
Krist said: "We wrap up the American leg of the tour in Seattle with Mudhoney ... on Halloween." That show would become “Live at the Paramount,” filmed Halloween, 1991. Note: The European leg of the tour can be seen in the documentary “1991: The Year Punk Broke,” with Sonic Youth. Nirvana did two weeks in Europe, after releasing Nevermind on September 24, 1991.
Saw this interview back then and Krist' statement about hoping to expose us to the underground, I took that to heart at that moment and changed my future. I was in high school and living this mind-change these guys were causing.
Nirvana listened to The Smithereens alot while touring early on. KC listed The Smithereens debut "Especially for you" as his #8 most important record in his diary.
@死者内部の Lol... so easily upset. Do you like this quote from Kurt? "If someone tried to take away my gay rights it would have been really bad, because I really like to buttfuck. It's fun. It feels good." -Kurt at No On 9 Benefit Concert for Gay Rights, where Nirvana donated 50% of their profits to help stop homophobia. Or maybe you'll enjoy this one? "Chris? I love you." -Kurt at same benefit gig, just prior to making out with Krist.
@ren Yes, that's from No On 9! The audio there is wrong, though, that's the spot where Kurt says "I love you" to Krist. That footage is also included in Nirvana's official video, Live! Tonight! Sold Out!! I'm probably gonna write that prom fic soon. I'll put it on Ao3 if I do.
@@WyldeRatttz don't forget the chapter where you get fingered in the ass by the band. Lol....fan fiction smh. Other dude was right, you're what's wrong with the world. Well, partially.
Every interview nirvana ever had they asked the exact same questions....I feel like maybe kurt felt as if he was in a constant loop and couldn't escape sometimes...he always looks so down in the interviews
That's how he wanted it to be, he really started to use the proper spelling of his name in '93, which is why they spelled it Chris, in interviews and other appearances on TV before '93.
He spelled it that way in the liner notes of either Nevermind or Bleach, or one of their albums. I think it's sposta be funny, like Christ Novoselic, or something. -Kurdt Kobain
He was always named Krist, but went by the nickname Chris most of his life, just like many people do instead of going by their full name. Most Joe's are actually named Joseph, or Jose, or Guiseppe, for instance, and Dave Grohl is actually named David. When "Chris" Novoselic grew up he began to show more interest in his heritage and started using his full name.
elninjalaranja Kurt wasn't that tall at all lol. Krist, on the other hand, is freakishly tall. Kurt dyed his hair brown at one point (like in that interview where he mentioned Madonna) but he was a natural blonde, even here it looks dirty blond. Go look at all his photos as a child and as a teen, it's blond.
April 5th, 1994 Rest in Peace to Kurt Cobain from the band Nirvana he passed away in Seattle He was 27 years old We had Nirvana band members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Chad Channing & Pat Smear Nirvana is a Seattle band back in 1987/1988 The first album Bleach came out in July of 1989 The second album Nevermind came out in September of 1991 The third album In Utero came out in October of 1993
man I love the breeders. Such wonderful songs, very solid, palatable to the ear, get your gutty wutts all in a bit of a tingling sensation. very moving. I love the pixies but alot of their songs went a bit off in the bridges, much respect for what they did as a band though. I loved their rendition of the strange creepy erotic deranged testicle cheek girl in the radiator of that one movie "Eraserhead" I thought was so funny, "In Heaven everything is fine, you got your good things and I've got mine". They're rendition was very well executed. Simply powerful or that's my opinion anyway. It's good that Nirvana talked about those bands in those interviews. Otherwise I wouldn't have ever heard of them myself when I was a teenager. lived in too remote of a town, Hard to even find "Spin" magazine. I know all the band's now and love many songs of all of them.
listen to these guys : subverting the "macho" stereotype, personality and the ego, humans are social creatures, "everybody wants to be accepted..." HOLY SH%$!!! AWESOME!!!
Man that interviewer was so excited, not. Nirvana, must of been so tired of those same questions, over and over, and they had absolutely no real desire to be there.
The old days were the best, this was before social media... this is what brings back all the good memories.. God i wish i had a time machine... things today are so fucking stupid
+Gunnar Thomas always bringing stuff back to himself and what he thinks trying to make himself the center.even him wearing a sport jersey, kurt doesnt talk cause i think he hates the guy stands for everything he is against.
I remember watching this episode when it first premiered. It was odd to me as the show was a forum for heavy metal music and not my bag. When I saw the upcoming commercials for this episode, I was curious.
