I told my husband I wanted to do a year no-buy and he laughed at me. It just makes me want to do it even more to prove to him that I CAN and WILL go one year without buying beauty products. Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!

yay! you definitely can and will! when I first told Joe he freaked out, he hates change and he was worried that it would make our lives hard, LOL. Now he's ecstatic that I decided to do it. It's changed our lives dramatically for the better.

Hannah , you are such a treat ! I have been cleaning my bathroom , scrubbing away listening to your storytelling of Love Languages and Joe’s delectable pastry delight lol and I was lost in it all ! It occurs to me that your soul is truly one of a poet Hannah , because who else could transport me away to your pastry choices while scrubbing a tub and leave me feeling touched by the beauty of it all ? A poet ♥️

Shopping is my own form of addiction (method of not dealing with the things in my life I need to) and it has never been as bad as when I started watching beauty videos for the first time. It's a beautiful wonderful world of self-expression that drew me in, and it took me a while to realise that yes, youtube beauty videos suddenly became my "shopping channel". It has taken my finding this smaller community and specifically your videos that have helped keep me in check by simply talking about makeup the way you do; the want, the feelings, the want FOR feelings, and what that can all mean. Makeup playtime videos are my lowkey favourite videos now from you, there's a different vibe to them compared to GRWMs, more freeing than makeup done with purpose. It's what encouraged me to go play and create a "pumpkin" look.
@HannahLouisePoston

this is me, too, I was always somewhat addicted to shopping but RU-vid made it spin out of control. Thanks for the reminder about makeup playtime, I'll try to remember to do more!

I know a lot of people are more addicted to shopping than they are make up itself. I actually do something that may or may not help people. I usually keep a list of things i need to pick up (nothing i meed right away usually) so then when i get that super itch like i need to buy something. I then make an event of going sjopping for those things on my list. Speficially setting a side time instead of oh i need to run into store real quick. And even if its just i need a new tooth brush. Do research like i would for say make up when you look up reviews for. Like i said making am event of it. And a lot of the time that fills my itch but i dont have to regret any purchases necause in the end its things i did need anyways i just strategically time when i went shopping for it.
@HannahLouisePoston

I can totally see how this would work! Great strategy, thanks for sharing!

I get what you mean about the shopping network YT. I find myself skipping through people's videos lately, just bored and sort of embarrassed for them about all the things, so many things. The more things, the less meaning. I'm excited to see what makes it into your favorites next year, I'm a picky girl too. Great intuition about waiting a couple months before talking about something new.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
Thanks, Tracy! That's such a good point about the favorites. It will be another way of seeing what's worth keeping.

I like this thought. I feel like monthly favorites are too much for people constantly buying new things. It would be more valuable to me to see seasonal favorites at that point.

I had to stop following a lot of channels that were heavy on reviews and consumerism. I’ve been watching more tutorials, especially for palettes I already own to get fresh ideas. There’s not a ton of new content out there that way - most beauty channels seem to be reviews and hauls. I do enjoy your reviews, though, because you’re so thoughtful and concise. I have no doubt that whatever you bring forth next year will be just as informative and helpful as your current content!

I hope I can do it without getting too off track! I want to make sure to focus on beauty videos primarily.

I had a great breakthrough this week. I finished going through and organizing my collection, I made little inserts for the drawers and made the things on the vanity look nice, and now when I am looking at new makeup, my first thought is about whether or not it will screw with my beautiful presentation with it’s oddly shaped packaging, or if adding another of said item would force me to overflow into another section and ruin how they are sorted 😂! It’s completely and unexpectedly put me off of certain items I’d been longing for. It’s also made me realize how important packaging is to me from a visual and even tactile standpoint. I want the things I own to look and feel good in the hand, and adding that criteria, plus the idea of how it fits with what I already have stored, has greatly focused my beam of desire.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
this is huge for me too! it's the main thing that stops me from wanting new stuff. Of course I want the Natasha Denona gold palette...but I don't want to store it. And I don't want to be responsible for using it when I already have so much to use.

For me youtube is definitely fuel to the fire of a shopping addiction. I used to think I had a makeup problem but the reality is a shopping problem. Before I found beauty videos I was constantly buying books. I literally have a library in my home and as much as I love reading, that was never my intention. Finding RU-vid just shifted that compulsion to makeup. it’s honestly absurd but I’m glad that it’s something I’ve realized. I love makeup but I have never gotten the same excitement from applying makeup as I do just from buying it. I’ve drastically changed the content that I watch and I make sure I’m cognizant when I’m watching. I feel like you and I were on very similar journeys this year 😂😂 I’m always commenting like “HEY ME TOO!” ❤️❤️
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
Hi Rebecca! I have a similar story, but for me it used to be more about clothes and homewares. RU-vid switched the focus to makeup. That's why I included so many categories in my no-buy!

I love how thoughtful you are about your content. You’re such a gem 🙂 I think I know what you mean about shopping videos vs beauty videos. I want to be more conscientious going forward with my To Buy or Not to Buy videos because I don’t want to be another voice telling ppl to go buy buy buy. My main goal has been to help make things simpler for the beauty newbies who don’t know how to navigate the beauty world and feel intimidated by the big beauty gurus who’s looks or skincare jargon are too complicated for where they're at because that was me 2 years ago haha. So I don’t want to lose sight of that goal in 2019, but instead make it even more of my focus & really “niche my niche”, I’m excited! I wish you strength & smart tactics on your sugar purge! Tazo & Good Earth makes some amazingly satisfying dessert teas that have helped me say no to sugar temptations 😁
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
I actually think thinking of how I was a few years ago with regards to makeup/skincare is really helpful in creating content (as you suggest). Great perspective. THANKS for the tea suggestion!

That moment when you were talking about enjoying beauty versus enjoying shopping was too real and hit home for me. I would be interested to know what content you consider shopping content versus beauty content. I feel like so much of the beauty content I consume feels like cooler, younger QVC or HSN.

Wonderful insight about your relationship with shopping and love. I also used to be addicted to shopping but realized that it was more about filling a hole in my life and instead of tackling the root of it all, I used shopping as a temporary fill. Now that I've realized that I'm more careful about my purchases and it makes me appreciate them even more than I did before. Thank you for this wonderful video. Hope you have a great day!

I defiently feel the urge to shop more when I was at my hight of watching beauty youtube videos. The last two years I've really had to evaluate my channel and what I want to put out there. Obviously I want to share what I love, but I never want people to feel pressured to shop or buy. Loved discovering your channel!

Your hair is AMAZING in this video, and yes. I would watch a 2 hour video on your hair. And enjoy every minute, My love language is pretty equally acts of service and gifts. My other half is physical touch and words of affirmation. He also came from a family that gave gifts in the place of affection so he also has a tenuous relationship with gifts. So I can relate to the agonizing over an “under appreciated” gift. It’s been a tough thing for me to come to terms with and change, and I love that you talked about it this month. I cant wait to see the Q&A and the Book Club. You’re putting so much into this channel and us and we really appreciate it. It’s funny you mentioned to no sugar for the rest of the year. After my other half and I get back from Buenos Aires we are going to “Whole30” for the rest of 2018 (at minimum) because we’ve also backslid this year despite 4 successful whole30s. We’ve kind of been cheating waayyy to much. So I actually cleaned out the pantries in preparation for the trip and we plan on eating a on of steak in BA then coming back to finish out the year strong.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
woo hoo, good luck with your whole30! I'm also cutting out alcohol and dairy for most of the month (may have some wine with my sister at thanksgiving) but sweets are the real hard line for me.
@cecileganel
@cecileganel 5 лет назад
Hannah Louise Poston due to my recent love of running my drinking is practically non existent. I actually gave up wine and beer in May as I did not like the way they made me feel. Now I have 1-2 vodka sodas or whiskeys a month and that’s it. But I’m no alcohol or dairy until 2019 for sure. My body doesn’t like dairy either all that much. The big thing for me is cutting down on the grazing. I’ve been like a cow lately just grazing on snacks (sometimes healthy sometimes not) all day long. I need to cut the sugar and eat 2-3 square meals a day. I’m hoping being in another country will help with that to, as Americans tend to graze much much more than other countries.

I love that you talked a lot about the love languages, so don't feel like you rambled! I love learning about other peoples' love languages because it shows you one of their most personal sides. My love language to give others is quality time and words of affirmation, but the love language I interpret from others is acts of service and quality time. As far as my October check in- I resisted many Holiday makeup releases and only bought one fair foundation once I ran out of my current one. I stuck to my no buy rules, which included an exception if I were to find the perfect dog to rescue & add to our home (including all supplies necessary) and as a happy coincidence, a sweet and smart puppy named Wesley is now living under our roof! As far as clothes shopping goes, this week I was shopping for more sweaters, and I could channel your way of thinking about buying by resisting to buy one sweater that I wasn't 100% joyful over, and returning two more that I felt weren't going to be staples in my wardrobe. I landed on three final sweaters that are so unique to my collection and wonderful, and I also saved me a lot of money by not impulsively keeping every sweater I came across. Overall I feel like my first month's no buy was a success because my biggest addiction was to buying beauty items. I cancelled my boxycharm and only bought a replacement. I'm excited to expand my focus on other types of products next month as well!

fabulous fab my husband fortunately responds to several of the love languages, he loves gifts, touch & since I am a cancer, on days when I feel good, he is so pleased to see me cleaning or tidying up our house, sparing him that chore. As for me, if I love you I buy you a gift! Once family got that one life got better. Seeing people open things they love coming from me warms my heart

After finding you I have stayed committed to only buying makeup if I need a replacement or after researching, waiting, and finding the lowest possible price. This makes me skip the harmful shopping. I keep a list of products I am interested in, and constantly update as I learn more about them.

Im 41 and only discovered the yt beauty community about 2 years ago but have always been a beauty junkie (sephora rouge since literal inception), but at the time I discovered yt I was already pretty set in my makeup ways and fairly good at adulting, fairly good budgeting and spending habits, time commitments, etc and have been able to enjoy it without suffering negative consequences. But to a younger and more impressionable/vulnerable person, I definitely see how it would be so easy to get sucked in with over shopping/watching and the like. If I would have found this space as a younger person, maybe not so good.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
I totally agree with this. In many ways RU-vid sends a message that budgeting and saving don't really matter compared to having all the makeup. That could really alter the course of a young person's life, for the worse.

I'm so glad you find so much meaning from this channel - it definitely shows. I was trying to explain to my partner why I enjoy your channel so much and why I find it so soothing, and the best I could come up with is that watching your videos reminds me of when I first fell in love with makeup almost 10 years ago. There were beauty channels, but it was less about products and more about the love of it all and finding a community. I was in college and young and excited and playing with makeup for the first time in my life and the way you talk about the colors and textures and your overall vibe reminds me why I fell in love with the commmunity in the first place. It's like by watching you rediscover yourself on your channel has encouraged me to rediscover myself. I sincerely appreciate it!

from what you said RE: RU-vid. the issue is that most people don't curate their content experience, and the same thing happens with FB and Instagram and other platforms as well. i see people complaining about how they only have useless things in their feed, or very consumerist-oriented videos, or whatever, and i'm like....you can LITERALLY control this. as opposed to other media where you kinda have to take the ads with the useful content, YT / FB / IG is very customisable and your experience is entirely dependent on you. when i started "makeup rehab" i changed the way i consume these platforms as well by simply changing the content I watch / see / respond to, and it was helpful because it is easier to change something familiar than quit cold turkey.

Not sure if you remember, but you did a video on why you didn't buy subscription beauty boxes. And at that point in my life, I was rediscovering my makeup choices. I hadn't used makeup in so long that I didn't remember what I really liked plus, I have aged since then so that wouldn't have really worked out. So, a subscription box, gave me an opportunity to try many things for a reasonable price. Now, after subscribing for quite a while, I know exactly what I want and why. And I completely agree with you about buying exactly what works for you. This is a positive change for me. And I was excited to share that with you! :) thanks!

My makeup obsession started by trying to lessen my clothes addiction. Now I'm trying to get/keep all kinds of shopping under control. For YT I started watching because I wanted makeup consumer reports to help make better decisions, but I stayed because of how entertaining it is. I have found myself clicking away more often from videos that are reviewing/talking about products I know I don't care about. Even though they're more shopping than beauty related I really like anti-hauls, I often find the process of deciding what I want and don't want to buy more enticing than the actual buying of the thing.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
anti-hauls are a good example of videos that kind of seem like shopping videos but I actually think they are often about taste and style, in a way! And about a mental lifestyle shift.

You have such a calming voice! I am a gift giver too. To me it’s an expression of not only love but that I was thinking of someone. When you receive a random gift that you weren’t expecting, it makes you feel like wow! I can’t believe they did that for me, that was so thoughtful. Then you cherish that even more than if you had purchased it yourself, even if it’s something small like a pastry. It means that someone saw it and thought of you.

Well said!! I totally agree with you about the shopping video part. That's why I don't watch big RU-vidr anymore. Too much drama and new products that I don't wanna keep up with. I bought many products recommended by RU-vidrs. Some are good but some are not. The most disappointing part is that they stopped talking about their "favorite" products after a couple weeks and I am stuck with that product. If I don't keep buying new stuff they discuss, I feel like left out of the community. I truly appreciate your channel.

I have enjoyed watching your channel so much this year! I Love watching You Tube Beauty channels, but I also watch other things on here. But I have decided to do a No Buy for three months starting tomorrow Nov 1 and after watching your channel I have more confidence that I can do it. I know I have a problem with shopping but it is only with makeup. I do not like to shop for clothing, food or anything else. So it could be what I watch, a very good point. Maybe I should be watching declutter and cleaning projects. But I spend alot of my time off of work reading, I am a bookworm. I love to read more than You Tube thank goodness! Five Love Languages is cool thing I have never heard. Acts of Services, words of acclimation seem to be my husband and my most main Love Language at this point in our life. It has changed over the 36 years of marriage though. Such an awesome thing to learn today!

So i feel waaaay better than i ever had! This has been the longest ive been without buying! And im going to try this November and all the way to the end of this year ..or christmas hopefully. And ahhh i hope you had a relaxing recovering week since the tango trips!! And ive definitely learned i can go without buying makeup longer.. So lets hope i can 🤣 ! I have heard about the book The Five Love Languages for quite some time, and have almost purchased it. Now you have sold me on it (audio book is on RU-vid, lol). I completely relate to your "gift giving" explanation. I labor over gifts that I give and strive to put all of my feelings and thoughtfulness into it, and do feel disappointed if the recipient doesn't "get it". My most favorite part of gift-giving is wrapping the gifts. "Presentation" of gifts, meals, my home, myself, etc. is something that I spend a lot of time and thought on. By the way, I am one of your followers that is anxiously awaiting your hair videos! Love how you go on tangents in your videos - you have a lot of non-makeup topics that I for one would love to hear more on.

Not sure if you started, but adding the book club in your channel would be super exciting. I’m writing this here, because I have been very mindful of what I am watching on RU-vid. My focus right now is watching your No Buy yYar videos in chronological order. I’m treating it like a book. Once I’ve completed these videos, then I will be moving into your current videos for 2019. LOL I was an avid RU-vid watcher, but now decreased a number of channels due to the fact that I am enticed by the products shown and end up purchasing them. What I’ve learned about myself, is that I am a shopper as oppose to the love of beauty. The videos focused on technique rather than the products, or how you show multiple ways of using your make up, have been very helpful. I find myself these days as purging “stuff” versus desire. I noticed that I fall in love with my make up again when I only have a few. I am panning like crazy these days. The whole premise of shop my stash has been so beneficial in my make up routine, that instead of hating the amount I own, I fall in love with the make up I already have. I think you Hannah very much. You are a well known name in my house. LOL You provide very thoughtful, mindful, beneficial advice and I appreciate you and your channel so much 😊🙏🏼

Hi Hannah, I wanted to recommend that when you're ready for a new night cream that you go for the Cerave Moisturizing Cream. Since it's winter and you were talking about having dry skin, I would really recommend the thicker texture for you and your preferences. The Cerave PM lotion is lovely as well, but it is a lotion, so it may not be thick enough for your winter needs. Another thing to take into consideration is if you like to use the Drunk Elephant C-tango at night as well, then I wouldn't mix it with the Cerave PM since it has Niacinamide and that doesn't mix well with vitamin C. You mentioned wanting a pump for your night moisturizer and while the Cerave Moisturizing Cream comes in a tub, you can get one with a pump. It's the best of both worlds in my opinion because I can use the pump for almost the whole bottle, but at the end I can screw off the cap and scrape every little bit out like a tub. This is a long comment, but I wanted to make sure that you had the most complete information for when you decide to make your next purchase. Yay for informed consumerism!

I’m a late bloomer with RU-vid. I made my first purchase related to RU-vid from Sephora in October 2017, the original Tarte Clay Play palette. I still like it and use it often. I enjoy watching different kinds of beauty videos but RU-vid can definitely be like a fun shopping channel. I think it’s the best advertisement for brands. Instead of a print ad, a product is live and in action and that is way more effective on someone’s mind. Videos can be influential when you least expect it. I even caught myself wanting things that aren’t my aesthetic and lucky for me, I have the mindset to realize that and stop it.

What a wonderful check-in. You are truly such a gem, inside and out. I look forward to whatever you decide to do next year. I love your Zoe Bug doll. She's adorable, and I don't know why she seems familiar in some way. I wonder if I have seen this artist's work somewhere before and just don't remember where, so I will check out her site. Your segment on gift giving being a love language for you while your boyfriend doesn't express himself or receive affection the same way, really hit home. I love gifts and picking something out for someone is definitely how I express myself, while my husband is just not into them. Often I am hurt thinking he isn't thoughtful or romantic. I always attributed it to how we were raised, but the way you explained it made so much sense and gave me a lot to think about. Even after 18 years, we can still improve our relationship. I have lots of beauty RU-vid channels that I like even if they are like commercials. I pick up right away when they seem more sales oriented now, but I still watch. Lately I have been switching to watch more "clean with me" or organizing and I also love watching Thrift store hauls. It fascinates me what people get rid of and what others find that still has promise. I hope you have a great rest of the week. :)

Thanks, Rachel! I really recommend reading about the love languages, especially if gift-giving is one of yours and your husband doesn't share it. I didn't mention this in the video, but the flip side of it is that Joe almost never gives me gifts. I had to get used to that and learn that it's not because he doesn't care for me, it's just because to him, they would be meaningless. But when he vacuums the house, that's an expression of love (acts of service).

I would love to see you do project panning next year to help keep the “non-overspending but instead enjoying what you already own” vibe of your channel. I would love to hear your insights during project panning since you’re always so insightful. I plan on doing a no buy in 2019 for Makeup and skincare products and a low buy on clothes. in terms of Makeup I am trying to get things that I really want now and need to get it out of my system. I should go back and watch your video of you explaining things you wish you would have purchased before your no buy began. :)

The love language discussion was so relatable and it's made me feel better, because I am a huge fan of giving gifts in general and especially to my girlfriend. However, I always end up playing myself and getting hurt (thinking my gifts are not valued or appreciated), because she does not attach that much meaning to material things. I think her love languages are words of affirmation and physical affection, while mine are gift giving and acts of service. I love organizing and making things look pretty, matching colors, etc. and I've had so many times of insecurity, thinking I must be a shallow person because I care so much about seemingly material things. But I just love to be able to give someone something that they need or would like but don't want to treat themselves to. I've already been browsing sites, trying to plan a bunch of birthday gifts for her...as many as I can think of so that at least one or two will be "good enough". The love language section of this video has made me realize that I should think of something more suitable to her love languages.

I've been good about not actually buying things, but the shopping type videos definitely trigger me to waste time looking into things I might want to buy. lately I've been watching other types of videos besides things beauty related and it's helped with curbing the time wasting aspect of things. it also helps that I'm saving up for other things. and I literally just took the love languages quiz yesterday!! I believe my top two were words affirmation and acts of service

Almost every time that I watch a "no-shop" video, just hearing the word "shopping" makes me want to shop. It's counter to what I'd think would happen, but that's the way it is. The exception is your channel which has actually reinforced my planned 6-month shopping ban starting in July. (I have rules, but I'll put that on a later video of yours because I know you may not be reading comments from old videos).

OMG, the love languages! I've never heard about it and now something clicked in my head. My dad is definitely a hardcore gift giver, he constantly give us stuff like toys, food (lately he gave us picked by himself mushrooms and jams made by mom 😝), random things like magnets etc. NOW I know. Which doesn't change the fact that it annoys me because I'm rather minimal and try to stop things flowing into our home 😉

I, too, had a crazy couple of months and am now finally able to catch up on backlogged RU-vid videos - and I am so pleased that you mentioned the 5 love languages! As the holidays are speeding towards us I've been ruminating frequently on my own top love languages, especially in relation to other people in my life. Two of my closest friends show and receive love via gift giving before all else, whereas it's so far on the bottom of my list that it barely registers. I think I actually have a similar relationship as Joe to giving and receiving gifts, so I have to battle through a strange mix of anxiety, shame, and guilt whenever I pursue the act of gift giving. But this past year I've been working on the practice of gift giving since this revelation about different love languages. It's been an odd and absurdly difficult road, as it has forced me to confront *why* gift giving/receiving brings up such negative emotions. But overall, it's a rewarding exercise, not only for my own self awareness, but also for my relationships with friends and family. Although I definitely still struggle with giving "good" gifts, I'm finding that the intensity of negative emotions surrounding the process have lessened, AND I actually have started to enjoy receiving gifts as well. I'd call it a win on all sides. :)

I'm sure you've thought about this and I'm sure there's a reason, but to play devil's advocate, why not have the replacements only no buy continue forever? In theory wouldn't we/you want to have sort of just "one favorite" in every category? At least in those categories where we/you only need one thing. I feel like that is what I have been trying to achieve. I don't own makeup, but for all other categories I want to just have what is necessary, but have it be my favorite, have it be the best, the highest quality, the longest lasting. I have been trying to use up everything in my life, wear it all out until I have to replace it, and then replace it with the best.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
I think for almost all categories, this will happen. After my experience this year I can't imagine every buying shampoo again if I still have shampoo in the house, for example (or concealer, foundation, brow gel etc). But for color cosmetics, and clothes, I think I will appreciate a bit of flexibility. I will never run out of eyeshadow, but I'm not sure I want to sign up for never buying a palette again in my life. Who knows, though, maybe I won't want to!

I need to read up on the love languages, from listening to you, it brought up memories of feeling so rejected by guys when they didn't mean it that way, I was always "making it about me." It took years to get through what that actually meant. I relate to your Purgatory Box, yours is a better way of putting it. I've had one going for a while now, I tell it, "you're going to purgatory", then it goes to the Don't-love-it-until-I-need-it Box, then from there, it gets used as a last resort or gets decluttered.

Hannah I love you and your video’s so much,I like to hear you chatting about several different,normal subjects.Things that includes everybody’s life,and I love that your video’s are a little longer,I enjoy that so much,just like having a real conversation.I always loved to buy clothes,and I still do but my husband and I are never buying new clothes,we love to buy second hand clothes,and I love to give our clothes our own finishing tuch,by pimping those clothes.We always buy new underwear,socks and shoes,and for our Son we buy everything new,but he is 13,and he gets a budget for clothes from us and we go together to buy the clothes he like.My husband and I love to buy very cheap clothes and give those clothes a personal tuch,when we do it this way it’s always our style and we save a lot money with it,because we both like to have many different clothes.We do this now about 7 years and we both love it,and with every item we know what we want to change to personalyze it,and we both found that difficult to do with brand new clothes which are expensive.With this way of life we spend less money on our clothes and be able to have many clothes,and many options to wear,we also get on a regular base clothes from family and friends,who knows that we both like to change things on clothes to personalize it.And with my no buy year with make-up,we manager to spend less money and save a little which I need for buying gas for the car,because with my eds I need to go often to a hospital,and most of the times those are hospitals which have specialized docters for my eds,but it takes long drives to get there,and when you are on a low budget just like us,than we need to have our prioritys,and for us is that we always need to have money for all the hospitalvisits,and the costs of our car and gas,and ofcourse food has the priority,and for all the rest we always are creative to find solutions,and not spending much money,it’s a different way of living but nice to think and come up with solutions.tHat’s realy our statement of living,we don’t think in problems,we only think in solutions,and the most funny part about this is that it stimulates our creativity,I stopped buying make-up,I started to give our clothes a personal touch,by changing a few things on each item,I always buy things on sale,my husband is very creativ to make everything with wood,which he love to do and sell,my husband is very creative to find and make solutions in home because I have a wheelchair,and I need to lay 22hours a day flat in bed because all my spinebones are loose from the eds,so my bed is in the livingroom,but our house needed many changes because of my disabillitys,so we have to change our lives completely the last few years.Our relationship has got much stronger than before because I realy need to relay on my husband,I need his help for many things,because I am fysicly not able to take care of my own,but my husband Made different bedtables so I am still able to give our clothes,our own personal tuch,he Made a mirror above the bed so i am still able to do my make-up,when i look a little better,i feel a little better.My husband even learned to do my hair and make-up,when i have a very bad day,he can do this.We have being grown so much as a team.And we both have being able to do and handle these changes by creating another mindset,and when you can change your mindset,than you are able to change everything.I told my story,because it maybe can help other people a little who need to change their mindset.I am so proud of you Hannah,for all the things you did this year,changed,get a totaly other mindset,you realy deserve big compliments.A no buy year of make-up is hard to do,but you didn’t bought any clothes,or things for in the house,you didn’t take one difficult step at a time,but you did unbelievable many steps at a time,you were only allowed to buy food,or buy something that you completely ran out of an item.I am so proud that you totaly switched your life,and you realy learned a lot with it.I hope that your relation has grown as much as mine.I learned a lot about my no buy year of make-up,and I can imagine that you learned so much more,because you were not able to buy anything.All those things you learned Made you the person that you are now.And I find it realy great that you want to quit everything which is sweet,it’s realy healthy but so difficult,to use nothing which contains sugar or sweetner,and no threats.I am addicted to sugar and I now that’s not healthy,but I realy couldn’t do this diet.All those things you did this year,and you do now,with no sugar or sweetners,that shows how strong you are as a person,and how strong your ideas are.I think that you and your boyfriend and your family and friends,can be so proud of all the things you have done,and still do,and they also can be proud of how strong you are as a person.Hannah you are realy a fantastic woman,and I hope that you can give your plans for next year a good place,so you can work it out,and I am so curious about next year,and what you come up with.You know I am a realy thru fan of you and your Chanel,and I always be.You are such a I have long been thinking that if I were to commit to a no buy or low buy year, I would not want to watch beauty youtubers often. I don't find joy in window shopping. I have removed review based youtubers that I see as having channels aimed at shopping from my subscriptions. For the most part. The only ones that I have kept are women that I just enjoy watching because I enjoy their personality and style. I don't think that reviewers are bad people, nor do I think that they have nothing to offer to the community, but that isn't the type of channel I need to be following right now. I am sure though, that when I want to see a review, some of the people I unsubscribed from will be on my list to check in with.

I would be interested to see you do seasonal makeup/skincare product series and dupe the vibes of interesting releases. Food for thought, what draws me to your channel is the lack of consumerism. I know you have mentioned the idea of possibly accepting product PR next year - but sincerely hope you don’t! You have created so much valuable and creative content, and jumping on the PR train would be counter-intuitive to what has made your channel so appealing. I would much rather see an anti-haul, or creative content that focuses on beauty and skincare. I don’t want new product reviews, they are so commonplace. Your content creation is creative and smart, and that is what sets you apart. x

all will be revealed soon! The short story is: I only wash it twice a month, only brush it once a week, lots of texturizing spray.

Woah it just hit me you've only a few months left. i didn't know you were a writer too! i love writing too but I never finish anything lmao. also you honestly didn't even miss anything with holiday releases, this year's been particularly boring and a rehash of the previous year. nothing that truly stands out or is particularly innovative from a "brings something new" to your collection perspective.
@HannahLouisePoston
@HannahLouisePoston 5 лет назад
I agree! Even though there are so many releases, nothing really tempts me. Except maybe the Gold palette. but even that is starting to seem less exciting, so many warm transitions shades I'd never use!

Mine is gift receiving and acts of service. I don’t know how I show love...not very well I think. Edit: retook test Acts Of Service overtook receiving gifts I think b/c 1. We had a child 2. He’s not a good gift giver. He thought walkie-talkies was a good Christmas present. 🤨 We have cell phones. I used to be really into clothes but a medicine made me blow up and it’s more upsetting...that’s when I got into makeup. Overcompensating for feeling like I lost my beauty, which I didn’t define by my face. I never thought hard about it until just now. I’ll save it for my therapist.

I think it's pretty common to get into makeup when we struggle with our bodies or are trying to buy less clothes for one reason or another. I definitely replaced a clothes shopping addiction with a makeup shopping addiction.

@@HannahLouisePoston I haven't bought anything for over a month now. But my problem is nailpolish. I can finish around 8 a year. But when i order polish online i always buy 5 or more at a time. So it adds up quickly. And because of my handicap (i'm home a lot because of illness and infections) my mind isn't always in a good place and that is when i start buying.

Wonderful video! Since your last video, I've "decluttered" my RU-vid account. (I didn't throw my phone in a river!) I've unsubscribed from a number of makeup channels, keeping only the ones that I love. In fact, I've become more aware of why I love a channel, and if a channel doesn't have those qualities, let it go, and/or do not subscribe in the first place. I also unsubscribed from all the news channels I had. After following the news very closely since the 2016 election, I just cannot take the dizzying insanity anymore, so I no longer have to see those in my YT feed. Now, I'm looking at it even more closely. Can there be one or two more that I let go of? Oh, gosh. Just as I attempt to come to grips with excessive YT viewing, then you introduce the concept of no sugar/sweets? :-) Well, truth be told, I've actually already been thinking of it on my own! So, impeccable timing! Maybe I can be just a little stronger about it. yes, Yes, YES! ... I do want to see your hair video!

I stopped watching the morning news, it was giving me awful anxiety and depression. I’ve unsubscribed from some of the bigger RU-vid beauty gurus. Always PR and piles of new stuff and feeling like you have to keep up.

When you talked about liking art with faces, I thought of a local artist (I'm in Memphis), Nikkila Carroll. She sells some of her work here: www.babycreep.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html. I like the mugs and planters especially. Saving up to support local artists for any future home decor! I came across your channel via Hailey Evans, and immediately watched all your check-ins. I also enjoy writing, so your channel is doubly fascinating/encouraging for me! I've been doing a looser version of a no-buy year, trying to be better at using up skincare and beauty items before buying new ones. However, most of those resources have gone instead toward a new wardrobe, after I realized that I couldn't keep wearing my old maternity things and hadn't bought regular flattering clothes in a few years. I'm looking forward to seeing which directions you decide to take your channel! *My middle name is also Louise :)

For me I have realized that I don’t have to watch every video. I know that sounds stupid but I’m an extremely loyal person almost to a fault sometimes. I still watch an exorbitant amount of beauty videos but I skip over sale recommendations and some hauls. I try to be more selective because I don’t have to consume everything. Your videos have really helped me realize that some of those videos are detrimental to me and my spending habits so I need to consume less. Deleting shopping apps from my phone has made a tremendous difference but I’m not cured. I need to learn to be a conscious consumer and not watching every video and unsubscribing from mainly shopping channels is step 1.
