The creator discontinued work on this fan game but they're working on their own original game now, if they put the same amount of care and effort into that (and why wouldn't they) it's gonna be promising
One Giga bite I agree! If nintendo nintendos this, nintendo's nintendo nintendo console will drive this crazy until it nintendos! Hope it dosent nintendo.
This looks both ambitious and well made, which are two things hard to simultaneously pull off in the world of non-profit fan games. I’ll have to give it a download!
"This game really needs more attention" Yeah just not too much Pikasprey, otherwise Nintendo will go and be Nintendo. I'd better play this while I have the chance.
Luigi's always been slippery. Take Super Mario Bros. 2 (including the Lost Levels, too), for example; he could jump higher than Mario, but he had worse traction on the ground.
If you haven't already, please check out Super Mario 63 - it's a flash game that's Mario64 if Mario64 was 2d. They have even few Sunshine elements mixed in such as Fludd and shine sprites. Really impressive.
People always complain about Nintendo taking down dan games, but when you really look at it, they only take down games that pose a direct threat to sales. Pokémon Uranium was taken down because many people would rather download a free game than go out and buy a 3ds with Pokémon Sun or Moon, and the fact that Uranium was released during the height of Pokémon Go’s popularity didn’t help that. Look at another fan game: Psyco Waluigi. It’s stayed up for YEARS without Nintendo doing a thing about it because it doesn’t pose a threat to sales. PSF hasn’t been taken down because it’s also a transformative game. If you really want to improve a game that you’re passionate about, make your own settings, characters, and plot. Chucklefish didn’t make a new Harvest Moon game, he made his own thing, and Stardew Valley has become really popular. I know it sounds like I’m “fanboying” Nintendo, but these are just regular business practices, that any company is alowed to do.
Aaah that was fantastic! I love all of ya videos. No matter if you talk about good or bad fan games, it is always amazing to learn more about these interesting projects. Keep up!
Luigi is the advanced character. Mario is the all round character. If your new and dont know how to play this game 100% and arnt happy with the slipperyness, then go mario. I'm only trying to cope with Luigi because he is my favourite character to play as
Honestly hoping this gets the Sonic Mania treatment and becomes official. I would totally pay money for this. But Nintendo can be annoyingly defensive with their properties that I'm afraid for its future...
Hoping is not bad and I agree with you, but looking at Nintendo as a whole I can definitely say, this wont happen. Mario is not in a bad stance like sonic was before Mania. Well, Sonic is still in a bad one, especially with most people bitching about Forces.
Anyone making a nintendo fan game should not release demos or announce it online. Nintendo just shuts them down when they catch wind of it and they never get finished. Make the whole game first, so then it will still exist online after Nintendo forces you to take it down.
Well, this game got cancelled, thankfully not because of Big N. If you need more info, I should redirect you to the developper's channel, but to sum it up, he lost his passion about this game, and he wants to go out and try new things in game development, nice to see if you ask me.
I was going to ask the same thing, despite its core idea being “What if we put Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and all the Mario 2d games into one?” it manages to be unique and fun, and you can see the effort put into it
Heck yes. I still play it sometimes, and I'm glad to know there are still people (outside of its official community, that is) who remember it. Although, to be honest, it's a really old Flash game that suffers from optimization issues, and compared to what's shown in this video, SM63's graphics are kind of a jarring mix of clashing art styles. Still, the best thing about SM63 is its level designer, probably the only thing that keeps it alive.
So Sonic Mania, but for the Mario franchise? It's fan made too, but considering Nintendo they may shut this amazing project down. I hope they make a good decision and acknowledge this.
Maybe, if they want to make their own official game they should try to apply for a job at Nintendo then. They are not 3rd party and have their own console and they do not have to time to look for other people to do there own work for them.
Ok pikasprey dude this is twice now that i have binge watched your videos and literally just when i get done watching, you upload a new video xD well thanks anyway keep going bro!
it is so funny to look at this video again because random nick created he's very own game studio with his best friend called brobrostudio and are making their very own original videogame which is cool
This looks incredible! I wish you'd separate out "Odd Fan Games" into Bad ones VS Good ones, because I almost glossed over this video entirely thinking it was just going to be another sonic.exe style review.
One particular Mario fan game I do remember was called "Mario gives up" (there was a decent sequel too). It had an amusingly dark storyline and some interesting ideas to it. That was years ago though, no idea if it still exists.
Firstly, I love love LOVE this video. Your videos are one of my favorite things I see when I wake up. You're probably my favorite RU-vidr. However, I have a question. After realizing that everything in this video (sans Red) is just more optimally done with Struggle, why not just swap to the remakes? I'm fine either way, I'm just curious. Anyway, great video, again; I honestly wasn't expecting you to fail at Red!
I was pretty sad today cause I cracked my phone and then my parents just keep making me feel bad about breaking things even if I take good care of them and although that's probably tmi this video made me feel better.
Ight I started playing it... HOLY CRAP IT IS GOOD and this is just the demo! I’ve never seen so many different Mario game elements wielded together, there are even Paper Mario elements in this!
Nintendo should hire the programmer of this fangame. I'm dead serious. This looks amazing. If they don't, I will be very much offended. I might even eat their souls.
If you liked this, you really should check out Super Mario Bros. X and the plethora of amazing fangames made using its engine. It's been around for several years as a sort of Mario Maker before Mario Maker, with way, WAY more features -- and I even notice its exact same ice-flower effects in this, as well as the whole thing having the general feel of an SMBX game taken to the next level.
First of all, it absolutely baffles me that this is just a demo and is still in development. I honestly thought that this was a full game. As an artist and aspiring programmer myself, it's honestly incredible to see how much effort was put into this so far. I have no doubt that this took several months to get the game to the point where it is in the video, if not years. God, even the logo looks amazing. In terms of just visuals alone (which look absolutely stunning), the only real "complaint" that I actually have is that the sprites for Mario and Luigi look almost TOO detailed compared to the rest of the character sprites. But that's honestly just an incredibly small nitpick, and even then I can see why the developer decided to make that choice. TLDR; Once this game gets Mac support, I'm definitely downloading it before it (hopefully never) gets taken down.
Pikasprey, Luigi has always been slippery! That's his whole shtick! It's a trade-off for being faster and jumping higher than Mario! Your argument is silly! ;-)
This really does look amazing. But have you ever heard of Super Mario Bros X? This is looking to beat it, but if you want a great Mario fan game that's complete, go ahead and have a look.
i'd love it if the red coins were ghosted untill the mission so you could see them and when the mission comes up have more fun being like "oh sweet i got this on lock! "
