As far as best 1-drops go, in addition to Kobold Librarian there's also Undertaker, Mana Wyrm, and Northshire Cleric that stand out imo. Although none of those three are as standalone "this, by itself, no matter what else is in the rest of your deck, is super good" powerful.
For me, Kobold is standalone powerful. The others I agree that need some support, but Kobold is a cycle with a body. Cleric almost makes this cut too. Also, other standalone great card is Flame Imp (imo better than nowadays Wyrm). Ah, other 1 drop that I find better than Wyrm is Patches.
As a long time paladin main I’m actually slightly convinced this is better then odd paladin I think they do slightly different things, odd paladin is certainly more proactive early on, after all with the coin you could have 5 2/2s on turn 2, but 2 mana for 2 3/3 divine shields is an excellent counter to other board based strategies in the late game I think it needs some experimenting
You could make this odd by just removing Prince Keleseth and the Balloon merchants, I think Cariel might be worth it, even if you don't get the second reward.
@@senboy9002 There is no point in making it odd. The second reward gives you nothing and you're down a card from the start for no real advantage until the quest is completed. That's 9 1-drops you have to play to get something out of the quest.
Love the vids Roffle. I love always having a new video to watch. I’d love to see a Shaman quest line Shudderwock deck and then just like cast lightning bolt to OTK them.
7:53 When I first saw Kobold Librarian I thought that it would be one of the worst cards of the set xD But yeah totally agree with you, it‘s one of if not the strongest one drop and definitely my favourite :D
I wholeheartedly agree that Kobold Librarian is criminally underrated. Warlock has BY FAR the best hero power in the game, drawing cards is just SO powerful for refill. It costs 2 mana... Kobold Librarian gives you Warlock Hero Power for HALF the Mana, AND a 2/1 body. You're basically playing a 1 mana 2/1 and getting the Warlock hero power for free. It's straight better than Tour Guide in that respect. So not only do you get a 2/1 that can kill some 2 drops, you get another card to increase your chance to play tempo. I agree with the commenter that Flame Imp is good, especially now; but these days a 1 mana 2/2 with zero downside is neutral. You take 3 damage to get one extra attack, and how often is that going to be a net gain for you? Meanwhile, there is almost no situation where drawing a card puts you at a disadvantage, that 2/1 alone going face automatically counteracts the self damage, and if you clear a 2 drop that's insane value. The reason it's good right now is because taking that 3 damage isn't as much a downside, it's quest progression. But Kobold Librarian ALSO contributes to your quest, AND can draw you into a card like Flame Imp so you get both. Hearthstone is a game about tempo, so getting that 2/1 and a card on turn one might draw you a 2-3 drop to stay on curve, and clear your opponent's first threat to help maintain the board. Just because it's an old card doesn't make it bad. There was a reason that Kobold Librarian on 1, and the 2/4 Taunt on 2 was amazing tempo. Attacking with both to face or even better on minions, meant you either had equal health OR were ahead on board.
Hey Roffle, big thanks to your videos recently, they were the good things left in this pandemic Anyway, as a fellow priest enthusiastic, can you make a video about Renopriest with the questline just to see how efficient it would be against aggro deck Thank you for your content Mr.Roffle
@@roguebanshee Balloon Merchant gives +1 attack AND Divine Shield every single time you play it. Stegodon gives, at best, +3 attack, Divine Shield, Windfury OR +1/+1, and at worst it offers Stealth/plants/untargetable.
From what I figure, it's a free card. Instead of having to add a mediocre card and dilute your deck, you're already one card closer to drawing your good cards. Good for aggro as an additional body
Thank you for demonstrating that you commented before you even watched the video. If you actually watched it, you'd notice he removed it in the final build.
3:09 I feel like you might not have Hero Powered here - there was no immediate need, but keeping the 0 cost for turn 5 after you play Cariel gives instantly better Dudes. EDIT: Never mind, I have never seen Cariel been played so far and did not know she also affects the board. I thought of her text as something along "summon Dudes with +2/+2".
