Day 31 thru hiking the Oregon Desert Trail. Today's hike will traverses FIVE Wilderness Study Areas as we hike through the heart of the Trout Creek Mountains. The hike begins with a hike up along Big Trout Creek. Here, the route straddles both the Disaster Peak WSA and the Mahogany Ridge WSA. Trout Creek is flowing strong, but it's an easy ford. Next the route climbs up to over 8100ft, the second highest point along the ODT. Here, the Steens Mountains can be seen on the horizon. Next, the trail straddles the Disaster Peak WSA and Willow Creek WSA. This is where the scenery started to get good for me in the Trout Creek Mountains. Near Chicken Spring is where the route enters the Fifteen Mile Creek WSA and Oregon Canyon WSA. After a few miles of cow infested lands, the route climbs up to the edge of the Oregon Canyon Mountains and there's a massive view. It's short lived, and I head to Beaver Log Spring to camp for the night. A big rainstorm is coming tonight!
