Hi Dr. Guy. I am a dissertation chair and committee member who discovered your How To videos through a shared faculty Dropbox at my university. These videos as well as your Office Hours will be a valuable resource for my doctoral learners on their dissertation marathon. Your personable, relaxed, and interesting presentation style is a welcome change from more formal (and sometimes dull) resources that students sometimes find of limited help. Teaching is my passion, and I can certainly see that it is yours as well. Please keep sharing!
Dear Dr Guy, i have just started my PhD studies in educational psychology in special education. I have a degree and masters in educational psychology but am not a special education teacher. I was offered a scholarship in this field. Part time course and am a school counselor. I just stumbled on your videos and want to say "THANK YOU" so much! The episode on Theoretical Framework was indeed an eye opener to me on how to go about this part. Looking forward to watch your other videos. Maureen
Hello Dr. Guy, I am not sure if you are going to see this since you posted it in 2015 but thank you. I am hoping to be completed in 2021 and your guidance has taken away much of my anxiety! I have signed up for everything so far lol. I hope you and your family are doing well in this craziness we have going on in the world.
Thank you for teaching and sharing your information with us. What you are sharing has helped me tremendously. I have also gone to your website and signed up for your help. Thank you again.
First of all, thanks for sharing this. I have just started watching your video(s) and it is helpful and valuable information. So off to the next video ...
I keep getting the feedback that the statistical portion of population in my research could be random and representative ableit having a very narrow people group chosen. Can you advise?
Hi Katy! You can surely have purposeful sampling -- wherein you use randomization to pick the initial people as part of the sample.... but then ensure that you have those that are representative of the demographics you wish within. Perhaps some more specifics could help. What are you researching?
Hello Dr. Guy! I heard about you from a work colleague and I am truly thankful! My question is, Can you give an ABD the first 5 strategic steps I need to take to get started?
Dr Guy, another great video thanks - its so much better to listen than to read and write. I am doing an MSc in Surveying & Construction Management. so i guess that my question is this.... Does the advice and information that you share with students relate to any field or is it specific to say the medical profession? I look forward to continuing my journey with you.
+stuart bradley Hi Stuart! 99%~ of the information offered here is applicable to any dissertation. However, it aways begins with looking at what a dissertation looks like in your specific program and adjusting, slightly, to the norms established by your program.
So, theoretical framework must have the model theory? what if there is no standard theories for certain issues or topics? Should I create the model/diagram myself? My topic is about the aesthetic and their relation with the contemporary art
If the professor ask for a framework, what would I title the framework? I know the model, but I am not sure what it is called. It includes education, community, social capital, social, equity, race theory, and it critiques the community. Is there a resource that titles and defines the most popular framework?
Hi Dr. White, I am having trouble finding a theoretical framework for patient satisfaction? Can you help I have been searching and came up with Primary Provider Theory but my DA says its not a framework
trudi dockins Hi Trudi! Often, theoretical frameworks have less to do with the actual topic under study and more about the WAY WE COULD LOOK at such topic. For example, rather than looking for a patient satisfaction framework, consider looking for a framework that allows us to understand how people experience the world -- experience service -- etc. Ken Wilber's Integral Theory (AQAL) is a great example of this. Send me a question any time!! THANK YOU!
Great and helpful videos you've got here. Can you please help me with the theoretical framework I can use for this topic: SELF EFFICACY, SOCIAL MEDIA USE, KNOWLEDGE SHARING AND INNOVATIVE WORK BEHAVIOUR ...?
Dr. Guy, thank you for the wealth of knowledge you continue to share with us. What advise do you have on obtaining access to research data. Specifically, I am looking for VistA (Veterans Health Administration) Claims and Appointment data. Thank you.
+Aida Rodriguez Hi Aida! It depends :) If you are required to do a literary analysis, then your dissertation will most likely be a lengthy exposition of the various viewpoints regarding a central issue. If you are doing a "study," where you are examining humans, places, things, activities, etc. then you are doing the same type of dissertation as most social science persons, but simply with a biblical emphasis. My recommendation is to look at what your program's dissertations look like. My words here will still apply :)
