Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Dr Guy. I am currently doing my Masters degree through a correspondence university, and have an absent supervisor, so really feel like I am floundering about in the dark. Your videos have really helped me make sense of what is expected and where to start. Thank you again.
Thank you, Dr. Guy! Amazing tips that have helped me immensely. One question I have is how do you select the best quotes for your literature matrix? I feel a bit like I am drowning in data and am having a hard time deciding which quotes to record (I have many more than 5 quotes per source). Everything seems important - but I know I'll never finish if I can't focus on what is the most important information. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
K Matter Hi K! In the end, I ask myself a few questions. When writing a lit review, I am trying to do a few things: (1) Did you tell the entire history of this topic? (2) Did you discuss what was known, not known, and recommended by researchers at each stage of this history? (3) At the same time, did you explain WHAT/HOW was studied during this time period? and finally, (4) Do you crescendo at the end of the section with a discussion of what researchers are asking us to know in the most recent 5-7 years? These questions may help guide your collection process. Send me a question any time!
great video as always. Also, I am having difficulty finding dissertations within the area of which I am most interested; health care, cyber security defense using gaming theory. You mention books but I am finding very few sources but there are numerous journal articles. Please advise!
+Lonnie Purer Hi Lonnie! First, go to ProQuest. Then type in (with quotes) "health care" + "cyber security". Then, see how many pop up. I see at least a few hundred. Then, start adding another + "something" to see if you can further whittle down. Regarding gaming theory, try that. If you can't find that. You may want to try "health care" + "game theory" and then further whittle down.
+SunshineLove It's all intuition and developing that gut sense of what fits, what is important and what is not. This will come with more and more reading.
