Who is policing the streets in Illinois? A joint investigation by the Illinois Answers Project and WGN Investigates uncovered questionable hiring practices at police departments throughout the state.
not every state. In Colorado we got tired of gypsy cops not being held accountable for their actions so we passed a law that if they resign while under investigation they lose their POST certification, and if fired the same happens. they can not just go to the next city over for a job. by removing bad police from being able to just get another job it is improving how police behave and act towards the public. all states should persue making such laws to get rid of bad actors who cost the tax payers money with lawsuits from their actions
This is not about protecting your own at all. Did you even listen to the story. I don’t consider it “protecting” when they have to go to a small town at $15 an hour. I live in extremely low cost area where I can go work right now at a call center with great benefits and four weeks paid vacation a year and many other benefits, and starting out at $23 an hour. Yeah you expect someone to carry around a gun, have to fight people sometimes, risk going to prison, risk getting shot, and all for little benefits and $15 an hour?
@@iMatti00hiring a cop that shouldn’t be a cop is protecting your own. Did you not listen? “Fired with cause” means they are dirty to the point that even their unions and fellow officers in that department can’t take the liability.
@@karensback So? What does calling the people you’re supposed to in an emergency have to do with holding them accountable for their actions? What kind of logic do you operate by?
5:18 Well lady. If you allow your agency to deface the US flag and display it on their issued uniform. You are the problem. Pay for training... Define a contract duration. If you give it away you deserve what you get.
The reason for so many bad police in Illinois, and this applies throughout the nation, is their TRAINING. These police training schools teach the new recruits not the law, but that they are protected by qualified immunity along with judicial immunity for prosecutors and judges. Then, these cops go on the streets and commit crimes against the public. Their training reflects how they conduct themselves, and it is terrible. And then they get rehired if fired.
Also, and this may just be a mere anecdote, but, the bully in high school who stole my gloves, with his gang backing him up and a vicious smirk on his face, went on to become a deputy sheriff
So, definitely very misguided "training" (think of the awful and baseless "sheepdog" nonsense perpetrated by the fraud Grossman), and indemnification, and qualified immunity...
Also, we didn't even have "police" until the Fabian socialists like Robert Peele invented them in the 19th century. We would have had one sheriff who would call on the "militia" or "posse comitatus " (sp), and the community, the neighborhood, would take care of the problem themselves. Even the term "sheriff ", coming from "shire reeve"...
@@christopheraaron8299 Wrong! Most agencies can only confirm dates of employment. That is also true for all agencies and companies not law enforcement related.
@@daveb2280 that is completely untrue stop being a trailer park RU-vid lawyer and talk to a real lawyer about these things before you tell anyone else that we are wrong. there is no law in any state that prevents an employer from disclosing the reason and employee was terminated.
@@daveb2280 Well, they're all allowed to say one more thing; Whether or not they would rehire them. But also remember that police jackets (their disciplinary records) are public records. If a person that was fired at one department applies at another, the one they're applying at can FOIA request the officer's jacket and see their history. That's like the bare minimum a department should do before hiring gypsy cops.
Start with abolishing qualified immunity. Training schools teach the new recruits not the law, but that they are protected by qualified immunity along with judicial immunity for prosecutors and judges. Certification should be revoked too...
The Brady List Many cops fired or disgraced for many reasons are never placed on the Brady List. Many who are on The Brady List are rehired by other departments.
Do they honestly have the AFRICAN FLAG flying on this police department??? Holy hell. And this department needs to be disbanded. This town and police department is a failure. They’ve proven they cannot successfully run it and keep it properly funded. I would even suggest just disbanding this entire town. It’s extremely small and can easily be blended into the surrounding towns.
Absolutely no ethics!!! It's a sad thing when you can't trust ANY of them because of a large percentage. It's not at all fair to the cops who really care. The justice department needs a department to investigate them and,i guess, to investigate them and.....oh hell.
Does anyone remember America, before the war on drugs? We had the world's safest streets. Now we don't. During America's alcohol prohibition, police corruption was so bad, we did a nationwide search for an uncorruptable, and sober cop. That is the story of Elliot Ness, and the Untouchables. After prohibition Ness was fired from Chicago Police, for being a drunk, and driving while intoxicated. Bad laws, turn police, into criminals.
You remind me of someone who gets upset when I pour family spares a couple dollars to go to a homeless person. Big whoop. I don’t want all the people coming into the country to get all the benefits they are getting, but for the most part that only happened for a little bit, and they’re giving some of the poorest people a little bit of money to have a little bit of shelter and dignity, and it’s for a short period of time. And if you took the amount of money they’re giving to these people it wouldn’t even make a dent in the other things we could need. That’s why I mentioned a poor family giving a couple dollars to a homeless person. Yeah, the poor family could use a couple dollars, but it did mean a lot more to the homeless guy.
@@iMatti00 Only I remind you. There are millions of you telling poor Americans to pull themselves up by the bootstraps but scream welfare king and queens if they get any crumb
Every city with a police department needs an ethics board to keep records of the police that doesn't conform to standards like cover up of cops family members on burglarys of guns drugs sexual acts an more and disobey senior officers of chase into other communitys committing damage an injury to other taxpayers
I dont understand how these cities dont spend money on the town, messed up roads, dirty garbage in alleys, no nice parks, restaurants.. and still cant even afford some damn employees? Shame
I’m all for sharing state resources to provide for quality local police. It’s one of the most important functions of government. How are you supposed to ensure peace and domestic tranquility when you can only afford cops with a proven record of misconduct?
It’s all one big gang, same way the do in Cali and AZ. If an officer is fired, no matter how major. They go to the next state to continue being cops. It’s disgusting but it’s Americas biggest gang and their boss wears a robe. All in the same gang.
Agreed. And that African flag shouldn’t even be flying. This is not Africa. It has no significance to anything. This is a PUBLIC building, not their houses. You want to fly that, then put it on your house, not a TAXPAYER funded building.
Suggestion, the city might want to invest in a few homes. It can be one of the benefits. A rent free place to live AS LONG AS THEY ARE ACTIVE OFFICER OF THE CITY. They, of course pay there own bills.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE MONEY ISSUE... WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THAT MONEY YOU COLLECT WHEN YOU ARREST DRUG DEALERS? WHY NOT USE THAT MONEY TO PAY THE OFFICERS?
Fired or allowed to resign almost always for breaking the law but hired by other police departments just think about that criminal organization hire criminals
The counties should take it over why do we need two layers of government to waste your tax dollars I'm sick of these little departments crying about having no money They don't need a second layer let the county do it
In term of police leaving after training why don't they make it mandatory. Too work 2 or 3 years after the city pay for training. Otherwise pay for the training yourself.
Thats how it goes. Like any job out there if you quit or get fired you can go elsewhere. As long as your professional license isn't fucked with you can move on
" officers we know , we can TRUST, who take the time to build rapport with citizens." Interesting that the supervisor would somehow think she cant trust the Sheriff Deputies of Cook county but hiring fired police or even deputies is better.
And police wonder why the community has no trust, respect or desire to assist them or open our doors to them? Really? Self inflicted defunding nationwide. You give criminals with badges the freedom to steal your freedom and the lives of our loved ones. We thank god for any good officers but those officers that stand by and say nothing or keep hiring these dangerous officers are NO different from the criminals they arrest.
I don't see what the problem is. I mean, career criminals are arrested and out within a few short hours, so why not screw up cops let go and working again nearby?
Because civilians don't swear an oath to uphold the law and the Constitution. Police do. There isn't much that's more dishonorable than violating a sworn oath. There was a time when that would cost a man his life.
You ever read you constitution? Does it occur to you those individuals are in fact... per law... innocent? Course not. You want rights and laws selectively applied... in your favor.
