Who thought we could re-invent the wheel?
Well this week I thought I'd have a look at the hottest thing to hit the electrical industry since Cory from Artisan Electrics.
The Logic Plus Rapid Fix from MK (Honeywell). This is a 13 amp double pole 2 gang socket outlet, with a few tricks up it's sleeve.
From the front it looks just like an average everyday socket. Spin the thing around and you'll find nowhere to stick your screwdriver!
The colour coded levers are spring loaded terminal clamps! So....
NO SCREWDRIVER REQUIRED
Is this a good thing? well time will tell. It's certainly a nice looking socket with the added perk of being quite easy and fast to install. At the time of this video recording (November 2021) They are priced at £5.99 from Screwfix. See link below. The socket will accept 2.5mm or 4mm cables and can fit into a 25mm back box.
Converting a box room into a working from home office. Sockets were asked for in all four corners of the room to remove the need for extension cords. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take a look at the screwless terminal socket.
Thank you for watching let me know what you think!
Here it is on the Screwfix website:

I bought one for the first time yesterday to fit in a kitchen cupboard. I thought it was a great idea simply because it was awkward to get into the cupboard and I’ll be blunt I couldn’t be asses struggling with a screwdriver in there. I thought they were really good and did make the job easy. Great vid as always mate

Thanks for the review. About time this was introduced. The extra cost should be outweighed by the saving in time & fiddliness of those crappy little flat head screw terminals.

I’m glad they’ve changed them, because the screw terminals in MK is shait as Fok. They cut the thread to prevent screw fallout and they’re a bugger to begin the thread on initial tightening, I dropped them for click years ago. They also have wider holes for a nice full width flat head on the click also… I’m waiting until they become as cheap as screw terminals SO’s, but there will always be that situation they’re perfect for to make that job easier… great vid. Keep em coming.

I think they are a great idea but the levers don’t seem anywhere near as strong or as well built as the wago ones to me, you can just pull the cable out of these when they’re clamped down without too much force

Great video, the MK socket is pretty cool as well, dual earth terminals, no need to torque the terminals as they are pre--set by the manufacturers connectors. I was waiting to see how you got down the back of the skirting board but that didn't happen. I used to do a few domestic installs back in the early 80's but we didn't have laser levels, multitools or impact drivers. The process hasn't changed that much, when we first got SDS plus that was a game changer and peppering holes in the brick to fit a back box became the norm along with the brick hammer and bolster chisel. Before we had portable electric drills we used to use a rawl-tool to make a hole and fit a fibre plug for fixings. Before the rawl-tool they used to knock wooden wedges into mortar joints so you could fix accessory boxes with a wood screw.
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
Early 80s you say! The only thing I was doing back then was filling nappies and sleeping ahh the blissful ignorant days. Now I get no sleep and someone else is filling nappies for ME to change. I used an old worn 16mm flat bit to drill behind the skirting. I've seen the timber in mortar joints way many times, I've even done it myself once or twice for a good fixing. Cheers for watching Jon.

I think they'll be good for the DIY crowd - it's not just the speed of connection, it's the consistency of that connection. They look great for spurs and socket circuits wired in 4mm too - I'm never quite happy that all 3 conductors are satisfactorily screwed into traditional socket terminals for spurs, there's always one cable that wants to slip out!

I love maintenance free connections, use them all the time. Generally I will use Ideal pushfit combined with their junction boxes, but I always have Wago on the van as well. The idea of this socket is great, but the price is high. They are nice to fit, especially with the 3 seperate connectors making spurs a doddle. As standard I use Schneider Lisse and they are £4.50 per unit cheaper. I replaced 28 units in a house today after a remodel, and a customer would be quite upset if I passed on the £100+ extra charges, the quote may have cost me the job.

@@JBE I'm sure they will. Everywhere else in Europe screw terminals on switches and sockets pretty much disappeared in the mid-90s. Only the cheapest of the cheapest sockets still have them. There were some switches with screwless terminals as early as the late 70s. Unlike MK's they're usually only rated for two solid conductors per terminal though, so you can still get screw terminals on special order for caravans, motorhomes and other applications that require stranded wire.

Hi James, what about the situation when you take a spur off a ring like you did in this video, how do you connect the earth lead to the backbox? you have only room for 3 earth conductors, do you put 2 earth wires in one connector, I have tested this myself and they appear to hold and test ok, you said you were going to change the other socket, how did you deal with 4 earth wires? Regards from Ray in North Wales.

Take one of the cpc's from the ring final circuit, put about 3 inches of sleeving on it, then bend a V into it, bring it to the earth lug on the back of the back box and connect it, then sleeve the remaining cpc and terminate into one of the 3 levers. I hope that's understandable? 🤷🏼‍♂️😳👀. If not check out my channel, video number (53) where I can be seen doing this in a kitchen. Although not on this new super socket, just a regular version.

As a DIY-er, the Logic Plus Rapid Fix from MK 13 amp double pole 2 gang socket is one of the worst I've used. Having pushed the cables in properly on open levers, then pushing the levers fully down, the cables would often be loose so that I could pull them out again. I eventually got them to fit so that they would not pull out, but I've lost my confidence with these and have gone back to the screw fix connections. Disappointed because I've always trusted MK and paid the extra for what I thought was good quality.
@JBE
@JBE Месяц назад
Yes, unfortunately MK are not the trusted quality manufacturer we all thought they were. They've been bought out years ago and now all their products seem to have dropped their standards! I fit an MK consumer unit about 6 years ago and it was a horrible experience.
@sleepingwarrior4618
@sleepingwarrior4618 2 года назад
The problem with them is the ability of the wire to pull backwards out of its home. As you move the socket away from the wall, if you don't realise they are fitted, you can easily pull the live and neutral out at the same time and that's no good if you don't have the power off at the time.

@@JBE Actually it was the plug on a 4 way extension gang, nothing else plugged in, absolute molten plastic around the live pin. Cheapo socket from screwfix melted a little with crack also, same 2kw load over a period of time. Nothing wrong with the wiring, I think sockets and especially plugs are not up to the loads for continued use. MK make one plug that almost looks like an old bakolite it's that's thick a housing, I bet they would have no issue, so how do these cheapo plugs get passed? How many fires will they cause?
