That valve cover is cracked! I’m telling you all Everyone always thinks it’s the gasket but it’s always the cover!!! The cracking doesn’t happen from removal it happens from wear and tear! Hence your oil leaks all over the engine!! Dry ice blast the inside and you’ll be thankful! This is from a bmw tech
Lol at times likes these I wonder if you could just walk over to Tommy's area and ask Josh all your questions. I feel like he knows everything. On another note, I think Will is such a good fit for the channel because he has now been thrown into the deep end of his own car, and clearly, he is excited. So for him to tackle a big task like this and learn along the way, makes you realize you can be doing the same thing at your own house.
I love how Will had a chance to take a shot at Tom when he pulled off a non cracked valve cover, and he gracefully decided not to. All that Grace must be coming one bottle of Chardonnay at a time.
You don't need to replace the solenoids if there's no fault with the original units but definitely change the o rings. There's two per solenoid. Part no 11367548459.
You should have degreased that full car and agitated it in then the dry I've will lift everything. I've been dry ice blasting for a few years now and that's what I find best.. you can also get a brush attachment for the dry ice blaster it's like a wire brush that works off the air pressure
that oil on the injectors when you took them out is from the engine sitting upsidedown and oil from the sump leaking past the rings into the combustion chamber
Stoked on the 135i content. Bought mine after seeing ruddy’s 135 and now it’s making mid 500s with upgraded turbos and e85… glad to see the OG 135 getting the love it deserves!
I’ve occasionally watched videos throughout the years but I’m hooked recently. Will is funny and the jeep shenanigans are classic haggard. Keep doing what you’re doing Chris
Change all the tensioners and the belt along with a new ac condenser as they tend to seize and cause the belt to get sucked get a motiv crank hub protection plate to avoid this happening along with New hpfp Uprated lpfp BUCKETED avoid bucketless S55 delphi coil packs there good for 900hp Every gasket possible other than HG Index 12 injectors And check the oil pickup for any belt shreddies And that's just basic 100k maintenance
"This is fucking crazy, like it just sunk in" the moment you realize you fucked up. Just playing. All in all looks like the right call. Give Tom props for pushing you in the right direction. You owe that man a beer
itll probably get rodknock anyways, since little willy claimed he drove it to work and back with 2 stuck injectors the cylinder walls are probably washed out.
honestly really stoked for the 135 content and I know damn well at the end of all of this everyone is gonna be stoked that it’s back together. super excited for the future 👍🏼
@@Randyt1988 Yea, she definitely man handles him, which is extra funny because she looked pretty normal sized. I bet she insults him the way Tommy does too 🤣
You cant get the cam gear off because it’s still under tension plus you need to take the crank pulley off undo all the torxs hidden behind the alan key bolts on the front of the block then pull it all out in 1 go with the cam gears
I love that your not like a serious builder and yet you throw in the montages its such a mind blower from watching these passed 3 or 4 years its crazy. Like i remember your miata slammed at the skate board parks just scrapping all over i was like this kid has issues. Or in the old bmw chop shop its surreal to see your progress. You may be able to beat fyeahspec yet someday................
23:08 every teenage kid that worked on their cars has had this moment. Lol mine was when I was 16 working on a 91 duster v6 doing both headgaskets in the car.. yup I had a willie moment
Might be a dummy question, but did they not degrease the hell out of it and pressure wash it instead of dry ice blasting for 6 hours?? Obviously nothing can top the dry ice but just removing the sludge beforehand
You literally took one of the most finicky motors on the planet apart to do something that literally never has to be done on that motor. Good luck trying to get that back together and running properly. I'd start searching junk yards now for a replacement
Please rebuild the bottom end. New rings, bearings, and polish the crank. Have the shop rebuilding the head do it. If the rods and pistons are strong just get the bottom end refreshed you are already doing the head. Also get those injectors cleaned by someone you got them full of oil.
It's hilarious, the amount of people saying "should have pressure washed it first" or "should have degreased it first" if any of you brainlets paid attention, they simply wanted to see how well dry ice would work by itself.
been watching since haggard, i stopped for abit when Florida content came, but i have to say ive watch every minute of you and will, gives me old vibes i love it
Like I said in the last video how come you guys didn't use Degreaser in a power washer first and then do the dry ice blasting it would have made a world of difference you would have saved hours
love the content with willie and you man ! i see you guys are having a blast working . fyi i would deck the block also .... if there,s coolant in the cylinders i could have run too hot ... if run for too long the mating surface could be warped !
i feel bad for Will. not an easy industry to learn all the ins and outs of different vehicles and he is just a apprentice with no journeyman playing head tech. don't see it ending well for him though i wish him the best. plus get the guy a program to look up some procedures will save you money in the long run
I’m not sure if this has been said but I really think y’all should have pressure washed that first layer of grime first. I think degreasing and pressure washing, then going to dry ice blasting would have been much more efficient.
You and Will should invest in jumpsuits. They’re relatively cheap and you can just take them off and drive home at the end of a greasy day. Worry free. When the suit builds up too much grime just soak it in degreaser and throw that b*tch in the wash. On another note, I am stoked on the 135i content. Always loved that car.
Will just abit of advise, get all the timing gear off before putting the head back on. The chain and guides with the crank sprocket slide easily down when the head is back on. Makes it so much easier putting the head back on / risk of breaking the guides. Good luck
use nail polish to mark the teeth to the chain and when you replace the chain just mark the new chain on the same links as the old one with nail polish
I don’t remember if you or tommy did it already but if will doesn’t have index 12 injectors and he’s able to get some he definitely should, new coil packs as well
should have just pressure washed the engine outside ! i keep saying that the dry ice blaster is way overrated and nobody listens aha. i pressure washed the sh*t out of my n54 in the engine bay when i had it apart. no issues and came out way cleaner than what Wills managed. the dry ice advantage is more for like delicate things and near electrical, its not meant for oil removal. you have to remember that when oil is heated the thinner it gets, well your freezing the oil to the engine with dry ice, probably would be faster with a brush and some rags lmao
I could take some good degreaser and make that engine look like that in an hour. Should just degrease the grime and worry about the dry ice on little stuff.
