I really enjoy watching this because of your perspective as a developer who's worked on these games. Sure I can find a dozen other play-troughs/streamers that will give me less "Back-seat gamer anxiety," but what you offer is unique, maybe I'll catch you stream live someday.
To start with, I want to say I love this playthough - getting to hear all the little details of what went into making what is one of my top 5 games of all time. Ultima Underworld 2 is another of my top 5 games of all time, and hearing that you worked on that as well is great - even if I do have bad memories of the ice caves! As a 14 year old who played Catacomb Abyss, and Doom, and Ultima Underworld - the OG SS just blew my mind, and I loved SS2, Thief and Thief 2. My hope is that Nightdive can take on the Underworld legacy and put out something worthy of the name, not like the pile of shit that was Underworld Ascendant - my most regretted kickstarter purchase ever. And a little rant to finish things off - I know this comment is two weeks out of date and you've probably finished the game already, but seeing you vaporize all the snack bars, chips and sodas is just so painful! Eat them and vaporize the leftovers, arg!
49:09 in the original game, it was a non-descript Earth-ending button too. Good thing those only exist in video games because I accidentally pressed it expecting some lights to turn on or something when I was playing OG SS1.
As a kid, SS classic had my hairs on the back of my head sticking up the whole game. As an adult I still hold it as one of the best pc games that I have played. Games are supposed to be hard but rewarding, the new remake kind of hold onto that spirit.
a small note, the black hole audio log had me pondering as I was playing the game. I think in the original the "Virus" was from shuttle craft that came back from one of the moons. The virus ate/melted away one of the crewmembers and when he died affected anyone nearby. I think in the remake, it's a probe exploring a black hole that came back with the virus.
Your commentary is like trip down memory lane :) I love how you make references around the details and how you guys did it in the original game. If it weren't for you guys back in the day we wouldnt have this remake right now!
@@algorithmancyTube I mean it, at least on this game your commentary is very valuable, it's the kind of video a lot of people interested in System Shock and the entire genre would watch. Perhaps with time! 👍
12:00 I miss all the severed heads and such that you could toss around in the original System Shock. But what I miss even more is the ability to vaporize corpses and objects using energy weapons. Instead, Hacker is able to magically vaporize items in his inventory somehow. It doesn't really make sense. And having to vaporize every object one by one is quite time consuming.
48:31 - I too made the mistake of activating the laser earlier except I didn't get a game over screen. Instead, I thought that was what I supposed to do and proceed onward and by the time I found I screwed up, it was too late. I had to restart the game. That's a major bug that I hope Nightdive will fix it soon.
tbf to the German authorities: the move to make all blood green and remove the hangman on med-sci was not pushed by them. Just EA trying to get as low an age rating as they could. Game ended up with 16+ anyway. Might have been 18+ with the blood and hangman. Ridiculous times.

Shodan 's dialog when you fire the laser early and lose the game seems to suggest that the laser was not /fully/ charged and you only killed /some/ of the humans. Shodan is waiting for a full charge so that they can kill everyone in one shot.
Love all the commentary but the following sequence was a bit painful to watch: -Go into the x22 area and nearly die of radiation -Enter cyberspace and successfully disable the radiation but not realise -take an unneeded detox patch and go back and forth between the same two doors you've already been through -leave the room without the x22 that was just a few feet away! :D
I guess there was still radiation just in the specific x22 room but you didn't go in until long after the detox patch ran out so that point still stands. Still avidly following your playthrough though, a couple of levels ahead of you myself and loving it (first time playing SS).
I love this game, I loved where you destroyed Earth, I was yelling "DEW IT!" at my screen haha I saw it coming so I saved before i clicked the button, love games that do stuff like that rather than give you a message that you almost killed the planet just let me do it and show me what I did haha.
