The "omg dude behind you" part, when Sean said "maybe it's behind you" my cat decided it was the perfect time to gently place his paw on my lower back and I think I just lost 20 years off my life
Fun fact: getting scared actually is considered to be healthy, and is kind of a form of exercise. A good example of this is Game Theory's theory on can horror games kill you, they talk about it
“You left him to die” Of course he did, he told him he would if he went down there. I wouldn’t be risking my life either knowing I’d just die if I tried.
I wasn't expecting such a smart move. Protagonist hearing "don't go there" and then actually leaving - that's impressive! For real though I got kinda tired of all these typical horror situations so it's nice to see people actually being scared and... not silly
The reveal of the same lady voice that called them originally coming back just to say that nobody was coming to help him was just so sinister. It was perfect
The last part when he’s screaming “SHUT UP”, when the thing keeps saying “you left him to die”, had me so upset, cause you could tell that he was sad and he felt bad, cause he didn’t want to leave his friend that he’s spent a bunch of his life with there in that hell house
you can even hear him crying as he gets out of the car, then it kinda sounds like he throws up and presumably gets killed. poor Jonah, he tried, but he revealed his fear.
@@penguinstarlette4028 that wouldn’t be vomit form what I can tell Adam did indeed live but more for the fact as a slave but Jonah just like the biblical version he ran so in punishment would come and if you listen the trunk opened so I ask what else could that be if not vomit
The woman in that call was definitely an alternate, when Adam said,” we can do tonight if you want,” she thinks he says two nights and reply’s with,” can you do three,” alternates are not perfect at communicating like humans and can’t perfect human speech
As well as that "I appreciate it more than you can think," it's "more than you know" like someone else mentioned above. I believe this is Cesar's mom (what used to be, anyway). Since it's 2009, she's had years to perfect being convincing enough. But to the discerning eye, there are those uncanny oddities because they'll never really be human. Same voice actress same house like they said. She wouldn't have the same accent, as it's clearly a regional accent from outside Mandela County, and thus wouldn't have people to mimic that accent from.
@@kestel7491 far as we know, it’s some thing that can imperfectly imitate human speech and appearance. The THINK principle video describes it pretty well
Really cool that they showed the “Adam eating the forbidden fruit” clip, seeing as Adam was tempted, tempted to keep searching, keep going down that stairwell…
The part where they say “really? A freaking cat alternate?” It’s strange that they thought she was calling about an alternate and wasn’t surprised that she was perfectly fine under the assumption that she had one in her house for a few days.
Perfect. Jack was kinda clueless to that stuff though sadly. But the little details like that are enough to add just another pinch of spook to this heckery?!
In the subtitles, Jonah says "OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU" the first time, then there's no indicator of him saying anything the other time, probably meaning it's an alternate saying it. The subtitles add a deeper layer to the whole experience, it's so neat
Oh lawd that would be amazing and horrible; a creepy horror movie like this in theaters that broke the 4th wall? Made people think that they were in it... It would be hard to do, I'm sure, but thinking about it... *shivers*
The *"Who Are You Running From?"* legitimately almost made me piss myself. The thought of the thing I'm trying to run from talking to me as I run from it sends shivers down my spine..
It just reminds me of the "run" game on that Nintendo thing where it'd occasionally get a really creepy thing that says "who are you running from? don't be so silly!"
that voice at 15:20 says: "You followed the shepherd. You are a fool! Follow my voice instead. You will find great happiness. Wake up, Adam. Do not make me wake the others." at 17:41 he says "Open your eyes" and at 23:44 he says "You left him behind. What will he do without you?" and then just repeats "open your eyes" great series so far 👏
the voice at 15:20 is the anti god or whatever. BIG SPOILERS FOR VOL 4 : the anti god is the one who appears and talks to dave, and then kills him in volume 4
My cat has learned to imitate me when I say "hello" to him, and most times it's super cute. What is not cute, however, is when I'm watching the "oh my God it's behind you/look behind you" bit and my cat walks in and says hello with zero warning
The "OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU" wasn't his friend. It was the alternate, because you hear his friend say "what the hell did I do" after the camera man yells at him to quit it.
@@ultrabigfella just saying that his friend might be trolling because he actually doesn't believe that there isn't anything scary at all in the house (well until he saw smth) so he thought, "why not troll my friend?" but after watching some Mandela Catalogue analyses, the "OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU" is definitely an alternate
The fact that Jonah and Adam are kinda similar to their biblical correspondents is cool. Like Adam is was tempted to keep searching and Jonah was scared and ran away and got punished for it.
Idk abt the creator for this, but I once made a creepy little short video for a film class and even though I edited and sourced all the clips it lowkey still scared me to watch it lol
as someone whos drawn horror art, yes. i actually make art of uncanny humans like this series and theres been a few where i lose sleep and decide not to finish the drawing
Rewatching these, so good. I understand the whole "Satan" theory. In the Adam and Eve apple cartoon, once Adam bites it he specifically mentions he feels afraid; fear being like a conduit for the alternates to effect people. I also like the cartoon references to biblical figures- using them as a metaphor for the internet and communication networks. Moses, Mary, Gabriel- they "connected" people, traveled distances to connect with people, spread a message; just like TVs, networks, videos. They were the alternates early TVs, spreading their influence and tapping peoples' fear.
Kudos to Alex for having a horrifying series where characters actually have common sense. Jonah may be a morally-grey one off jokester but at least he wasn't stupid. We all need a Jonah in our lives to tell us better. I wouldn't be surprised if this series set a new standard for contemporary horror, this shit is terrifying.
I love how Jack calls the guy Josh, I in my head correct him by saying "Come on Jack, his name is Jonathan, they literally showed it 2 minutes ago" and it turns out it's actually Jonah
especially with the fact it was the same 1-2 meows just being looped, further pushing the idea that it is NOT an actual cat, but something pretending to be one
Imagine yourself being in a supposedly haunted house and your friend screams "LOOK BEHIND YOU" twice. 'dude shut up' is the worse possible fucking response.
The thing that really sells this series is just how normal Alternates are in this universe. The intro shows this perfectly, how they just nonchalantly talk about Alternates like they’re not a paranormal threat to humanity.
You would think that, but are they really? It seems like they’re akin to ghosts in this universe. Everyone’s aware of them, but not everybody necessarily believes in them. At one point, Jonah says he doubts they even exist in the first place
@@kiera6326 nah we can hear from the conversation that most people believe it with the television and mirror destruction act in full force with them questioning whether the cars screen was even legal due to the intruder its very likely that the crt is one of the only ones left
The final conversation where Jonah is telling Adam that he will not stick around to see what happens if Adam goes to the basement is giving me the same energy as the ending speech in FNaF 6
the biggest thing to consider in volume 2 is that the alters are treating adam DIFFERENTLY than anyone else and actually seem to be communicating with adam rather than just replacing him. also 333 is supposed to be a sign that the alternate is around.
I love that when “Adam” is talking to Jonah during his whole speech, Jonah just cuts him off like “FUCKING LISTEN TO ME” That felt real, like something someone would do to talk their friend out of something stupid. Not in some horror thing like this or in a movie, but something that someone in this life would do.
when the caller says “i appreciate this more than you can think” as opposed to “i appreciate this more than you know” is just another detail where it sounds *almost* right but not quite. (alternate speak)
The *OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU* send shivers down my spine, it was such a genuine scream for imminent danger of a friend or loved one. This guy really nailed the line .
@@nameling75 I think so too. And he kept repeating and glitching. Im wondering if Adam lost his sister or girlfriend to an Alternate but he survived because his name is Adam (why else did the Adam and Eve thing play?) and he either wanted to die to join her or thought he was invincible and had a hero complex.
"I'll bet God isn't even watching" Feel like that little line in the cartoon clip was slept on. But it gave me a shudder given the context of all of this.
Ahhhh so excited for Volume 3, it should be coming by June!!! My boyfriend was cast to do a voice in it and I couldn't be prouder of him, I'm so excited to see you watch the next one!!!!
you know when he says "we can come tonight" and the lady responds with "how about three nights?", to me it sounded like she responded to what sounded to her or the being like "two nights" and not "tonight". in line with the "imperfect duplication/understanding of humans"? might been a neat detail
her saying "more than you think" instead of "more than you know" was weird to me but you're totally right i didn't catch that part at all!! such a cool detail
I am 100% sure the woman was an alternate, purely by her last line. “I appreciate it more than you can think” That’s not the usual expression. It should be “more than you know.” I think it 1. Might have let slip its actual perception of humans aka it’s above their thinking and/or 2. Alternates are slightly off with appearance and speech so it wouldn’t surprise me that their choice of vocabulary gives them away too
shit i was thinking the same way too just from the way she "spoke" and certain articulation on some of her words. it was just odd and it felt forced, but we will never know and i love it
Fun story - it's the same voice actress as the screaming woman who died in the first catalogue... and given it's the same house, it could be an alternate of that woman.
I saw another comment on here saying that the way she responded to "tonight" with "3 nights" is proof that she must've thought of that as "two nights " instead.
Definitely! Definitely an alternate that lured them in. Though I find it interesting that it implies alternates are learning more about humans. That (most) humans have an automatic sympathy towards animals. Cause (at least if the alternates and “the intruder” were aliens) you wouldn’t think they’d know to say something like “I just want to know he (the cat) is at peace” which on the surface is a very human thing to express. At least in my opinion.
@@oat_cake8673 Yeah they are better than other people bringing hate to their channel, making fun of someones loss is NOT OKAY, and for what? A few likes?
I seriously agree with Sean on this. Joking or not, how do you hear, “OH MY GOD BEHIND YOU”, and NOT immediately want to look behind you, especially in an environment like that. Like no, I wouldn’t even look, I’d just be long gone
Adam shows no fear and feels no fear which is why he was able to talk with the intruder in the basement and got it to threaten him when he said "I did the right thing"
The full exchange between Adam and Jonah and then the end nearly made me cry dude, that’s fucking heart-gripping. The monstrosities of the alternate’s methods are extremely sociopathic
People who think this voice acting is bad, id like to see you do this yourself. Sure its a little weird at first, but the breakdown the who adam and Jonah have near the end at eachother is so well done.
Note to self: thank you mother and father for not naming me after something religious so that God doesn't decide to use an alternate to ironically murder me
@@TheAdvertisement he wasn’t tired of his BS, nor did he really tell him anything straight, he insults him by saying his “___” is dead and leaves because he was too scared of the house, which I’m 90% sure him leaving got him killed lmao
@@HabitualThinker Yes leaving got him killed but did you miss the part where he told Adam how much he keeps running back to the intruders and acts like they're invincible?
my face dropped when I heard that tune because ITS THE MUSIC BOX I HAD WHEN I WAS LITTLE AND I STILL HAVE IT IN MY ROOM. ITS THE SAME EXACT TUNE. 22:21
I just noticed more evidence of the women being an alternate. In the credits her name is just Woman, but it’s in quotes unlike Jonah who’s name is not in quotes.
@@reaperz5677 Yeah but if she was just a normal person it would be listed as just Women and not “Women” The way it’s worded implies that it wasn’t a women and probably an alternate
@@reaperz5677She also misunderstood “tonight” as two nights and said “3 nights” as well as saying “more than you can know” instead of “more than you know”
I have a theory on the „error 333“ that kept showing up. 333 is an angel number an the meaning of it is „encouragement in making the correct choices in life“ which could either implicate that they should make the right choice and run away from the house. Or that they both did not make the right choice by even going to the house, or even Adam going down the stairs (not making the right choice) and Jonah leaving Adam to die (again not making the right choice). Another thing it could implicate is that the alternate took over the gps and put up the error so that they would go to the house so it could kill them (encouraging them to make the „right“ decision). That’s what’s so great about this, even just the little things leave so many possibilities of the meanings it could have.
9:33 "What's that sound?" Just to clear it up for you, its the sound of the "Spirit box" Changing channels. The spirit box changes channels at a rate which I Cannot remember, I do think its like 100 channels a minute, this is so the ghost can communicate in-between channel changes. But because of how fast it is, its also loud, Really loud, it why you can hear it.
Did anyone notice how the beginning conversation had contradictions? Like how she could hear her cat meowing at home but shes on a business trip? I'm pretty sure that woman is an alternate
Unless like, it's been an ongoing problem for weeks now but even then. A sensible person would've called a few days after it started or the day after. It would make sense for her to be an alternate
i thought it was obvious that she wasn't telling the truth. isn't it convenient that she calls them about an alternate problem that sounds very tame, is out of the house when they come to investigate, and offers to pay them a hell of a lot of money?
20:00 that entire desperate rant, man. Ffing amazing voice acting. Someone who's desperately trying to convince their friend not to walk to their own death, while also having crossed their own limit of what they are fine with and giving one last final attempt while they know it will likely fail. And then to top it off with saying that if they do go, they won't be here anymore. That's totally what I'd do if someone wants to go deeper into the silent hill house instead of getting out.
As the person who tends to be the "therapist friend", it kind of hit home, too. I've definitely watched people go down that stairwell against all judgment, and ultimately all you can do is stand right where you are and see them off to wherever it takes them. The last thing they know is the gaze of a friend, but you don't lose yourself in trying to follow them forever. That's what I strive for as a worst-case scenario, anyway.
@@pundemon9659 as another therapist friend, damn. that's incredibly well articulated and calls out to a very specific part of me that needed to hear it put into words
@@marzipanmenthol I hope someday I learn to listen to myself, lol! It's easier for me to step back and see this stuff than it is to act on, even if for folks like us it's definitely healthier.
15:20 for those who can't hear it clear the voice says "you followed the shepherd? you are a fool! follow my voice instead. he will not grant happiness. wake up, adam." basically adam thinks he is immortal because the alternates make you go insane and make you take your own life, so jonah was the shepherd who he should not trust, and the alternates are the voice the one who adam should trust.
I also just realized that the woman on the phone must be a lure alternate or something, because she shifts tones, she says typical phrases like "more than you can think" slightly incorrectly. That phrase, at least the way I grew up with it was "This means more than you KNOW". She's jussssssst odd enough to raise suspicions. So fucking good
I am so dead inside that few things actually make me laugh anymore. But “can someone pick up that cat? It’s been ringing for a while” at 21:30 made me burst out laughing.
@@thelonewolf195 that's not realistic, that's just a decent attention to details. What makes this realistic is that it actually sounds like a scream, like an actual person screaming, instead of some voice actor
I think Adam did pretty good, he was more angry than scared and he didn’t turn around when the alternate tried to trick him. There might even be a chance he survived
@@patrickthegamer7142 If the theory that he’s the child that was kidnapped in “Intruder Alert” is confirmed in volume 3, perhaps Adam a sort of Chosen One? A modern day Messiah, destined to save the world from the Alternates…….it would give a whole new meaning to all the religious imagery.
The fact the lads did this even though they *know* about alternates is what astounds me. I get that there's an implicit reason Adam keeps poking the hornet's nest, but still.
Tbh there are theories as to why Adam is trying to poke the nest. There is even a theory said that he is actually the missing child from the intruder alert and he got this personal crusade against the alternates. He even can fend off the phsychological attacks of the alternates as shown in the video. In short he is an anime Protagonist.
I like how the creature was tempting Adam much like how the snake did with the apple. The scene with the flashing black and white pictures on the television was horrific. It's frightening how the creature keeps trying to guilt-trip Jonah into returning to the house. I like how we spend most of the video suspecting Adam or Jonah to be an alternate. Like when Jonah's voice keeps screaming that there's something behind Adam and it keeps replaying the exact same way like how the cat did.
@@madameghostie and just like in the Bible Jonah ran away when he was called by God just like he ran away here. I’m thinking these parallels might reveal certain things
I was just thinking this too. How Adam was told not to eat the apple and still ate it showing that reference into how John was telling Adam not to go back but Adam ignored it and still went back in.
This hit differently bc when I was little I went to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and somehow I could see a faceless black cat walking towards me down the hall in the darkness. I wanted to do anything like leave or make a noise but for some reason I couldn’t move, until a noise broke me out of my trance and I looked away. Looked back and it wasn’t there, empty hallway. Our cat had died before this, so maybe somehow I had some strange sleep paralysis standing up that was just cat themed bc he was on my mind lmfao. Either way still creeps me out.
I just got into this,, been too afraid to watch it by myself. But now I'm just really depressed LMAO, their argument was dialogued and read out so well! It literally made me sad and sick-- seriously such a great horror genre!! 🤧😩
The “behind you” section wouldn’t have gotten me if they didn’t set up the world as well as they did. The people behind this are incredible and I would love to see a bigger budget for it
14:25 i have rewatched this video many times before and i just noticed the face on the left of the screen i just saw something moving in the corner of my eye, that editor needs a raise
That little tune where Seán said “Ice cream? Oh I scream alright.” It brought back a weird memory for me, I used to have a music box that played that exact same tune. I found it. It’s here in front of me and it’s so weird cause I haven’t even thought about this box in like 5 years.
It's kinda adorable how hyped Alex is about Jack being one of his many fans at this point. Make sure to check out the Monument Mythos if you want a twisty, turny rabbit hole to fall down!
good fucking god the monument mythos is so good i hope jack checks it out. to those curious i recommend watching Wendigoon's vid of it!! it gets fucking ridiculous but definitely very fun and entertaining to explore
