Great video. I purchased a 1999 twin spark Spider last year for £1600 and absolutely love it. The twin spark just loves to he reved, classic old school 16v. Cant wait to see what you do with tge £500 GTV.
The alfa gtv and fiat coupes in my opinion look far more beautiful than most brand new cars in fact id say the coupe is one of the most unique stunning looking cars on the road.
Awesome purchase. Currently undertaking a full restoration of my GTV ph2 which has spent its previous life buried at sea….. A great project car and now finally rust free. Looking forward to more vids on this!
Fair play to that old man who bought it at whatever age above 70+ and being able to clamber in and out of it! Im 38 and don’t enjoy getting in and out of mine 😂
The problem with Alfas in the UK tends to be the massive rust they get. I live in Spain and we don't have that problem here, but finding a decent unit for 500 pounds looks like a great deal.
After watching this, i'm feeling better about my CF1 engine, rather than the later ones. Reliable and doesn't use any oil too! Always thought the later ones (Twin Spark engine) with apparently slightly more power, would be better somehow.
New viewer (and yes I have subscribed). I recently bought a '98 GTV V6 and I absolutely love it. Everyone who knows the Busso engine says that is awesome and they are 100% right, gorgeous sound and great torque. I do agree that the V6 version is front heavy and I will be looking for ways to improve handling to offset that. Thanks for the video and look forward to seeing what you do with the twin spark, but would love to see more vids on the Busso please
I’ve had loads of Alfas, including a GTV 3.0 V6 - it sounds good but the car is all wrong dynamically if you want to really push on - very nose heavy and the chassis isn’t great either - Better off with a 75 V6 Cloverleaf if you can find one - rwd and better balance
I've owned 2 Alfa's and I've always wanted a GTV but for some reason I've never bought one. I love the looks and I love the Busso. Maybe I should take the plunge. I enjoyed this video muchly.
One of the best V6 sounds ever! Similar body kit to the Cup version, which was really special. Still prefer the whoosh ...pisst of the coop though! ;) I'd be tempted if I saw a red or black GTV 3.0 cup with red leather! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
They all need 2k spent on them, rear suspension bushes / spring pans , service, cam belt, balance belt , brake lines etc etc and that's before you get into corrosion, abs and airbag, and hope you don't have to do an alternator ! Enjoy , it's exactly my kind of project...
GTV door cards are prone to having the door shut on the seat belt buckle. Punches a hole straight through 😫 It’s ready for a 20V turbo to be swapped in 😁
I bought a phase 2 916 GTV with practically the same back story as this (even down to the mouse s*** inside) in 2021 to relive my 20’s when I had a red one with black leather interior, which I adored. Absolute fanny magnet back in the mid-2000’s (the car, not me 😂). My current one is silver and had been in a barn for 10 years and I picked it up for 1K as the the underneath was solid and after plugging in a fresh battery, started on the button and sounded lovely as the previous owner had fitted a stainless steel sports exhaust. It has a ropey history, but I serviced it and got the cam belt changed plus a few other bits to make it road worthy (another grand all in after the purchase price) and after that has been practically faultless apart from a MAF sensor which I changed myself and way more reliable than my 2014 BMW 535D Touring which I have just gotten shot of as it was one thing after another with it. You hit the nail on the head at the end… Look after an Alfa and it should - * SHOULD * look after you. I loved this video. Can you tell?!
Nice! And the first phase 916 looks the best, for me anyway. Like most Alfa first models in a range. Only one that got better after its facelift was the 166 imo
@@autosportivobedford yep, usually i like the quircky nosedesigns like on the 147, and the original 156 which is beautiful. Never liked the 159 nose on it
I had a late version pininferina, 2.0 t spark in black, like this one. Got rid in 2005 with 120k when shit started to go wrong, throttle body etc. Loved my time with it.
not all v6 had a 6 speed ,the ph1 has a five speed . the 5 speed in the v6 is stronger than the 6 speed its also faster to say 100 .the gearing suits the v6 torque.
Oh man I love the GTV, If there were any Alfas in my country I would have bought a GTV, but since there is none I'm stuck with my Eclipse, not bad thou...
I had my share of alfas my model was a green alfa Romeo 33 1.5 boxer engine very light chassi and with some tunes It asked to be puled. But it had a tone of Electric problems the fuel pump was Always dead i had to buy a used one when it was runing well was a very good car and very fast but when the eletric problems apeared was a real nightmare to work with. I ended up seling it. Next buy a fiat uno turbo ie now that one was like a rocket.)
You are funny guys ! Its fun to watch ! Dont forget, the TS Engines have Bosch Motronic Engine Management ! You should come to the ''Autobahn'' with your GTV ! Greetings from Germany
@@Baukevandijk Its a conversion that Autolusso recommended and carried out for me at the same time as the Quaife diff, the std flywheel has springs to cushion the drive, probably just to standardise things throughout the range, the GTA flywheel doesn’t have this and is lighter and it really makes the engine respond much quicker really changes the character of the car, much more like a sports car should be.
Why noone talking about the later 3.2 GTV wich is way rarer than GTAs or GTs but has the same engine! Faster Alfa Romeo of that period with 255 km/h of top speed. Actually I have one, a little tuned with over 270hp and also a few things like Q2 diff, Bilstein/eibach, strut brace ecc. Very good handling car expecially at higher speeds, where you feel less the weight that is not low I have to say..
