The fact that every young character in the film was trying to be decent, polite, and helpful whenever an elderly person seemed in distress makes what the Olds then DO to them even worse! RJ was kind and gentle to the demented granny, even after being fondled, just offering to find her husband and he gets macerated! Kid Cudi's character offers military solidarity to the old man and goes out to help him find his wife with all honor, to be maligned and shot! And of course ALL the girls are horribly mistreated, soul-sickened, and destroyed, only traumatized Maxine making it out. Maxine's dealt with horrible religious folk before. This movie is amazing.
I’m still confused why she thought it was Maxine’s fault. I get Maxine was a little rude to her but completely ruining her chances of survival over pettiness was just silly
@@lilscenechick1995 Samee like I know they poked fun at her for being a prude a bit, but I don't think that would've warranted that type of extreme reaction lol I feel like those two characters didn't interact enough so it would've been smarter to me if they both teamed up since ya know SURVIVAL should be prioritized over whatever petty bs happened before. It could've built up their dynamic better, especially since there's going to be a sequel that can dive deeper into their relationship rather than solely focusing on Max. No one would've just run out the front door like that either, knowing the killers could be anywhere at that rate. If she thought for a second, it'd be way better to exit through a window or possibly the back door. Idk just seemed too dumb for my liking. It felt nonsensical and was only put there so Maxine can be the final girl smh
@@jackskellington4198 I also got that impression it was just an excuse for Maxine to be the final girl. They didn’t need to kill her off in such a dumb way. If they really wanted Maxine to be the only survivor, there were better ways than that. Petty “cat fight” bs is so annoying in movies.
If you notice (hard to miss) all the girls break the slasher rules, yet they have the “final girl” vibe to them. Really does make it unpredictable as to who survives.
You're right, Maxine is the one that gets the most focus, Bobby-Lynne was probably the nicest character (and played by Brittany Snow who's been a final girl in other movies) and Lorraine has the "shy, religious girl" vibe going on.
@@lee210294 definitely jumped in the theater when lorraine died because although we spent the most time with maxine in the beginning i totally thought Lorraine was going to be the final girl.
I hope Mia Goth is recognized for her AMAZING performances. Horror filmmakers and horror actors are so unappreciated in Hollywood…its sad. Mia Goth for X, Florence Pugh for Midsommar, Toni Collette for Hereditary, and Lupita Nyongo for Us all deserve Oscar nominations for their work.
THIS 👏🏻RIGHT 👏🏻 HERE 👏🏻 The horror genre continues being sadly overlooked, despite many actors giving amazing performances over and over again. I think the only times I remember horror performances receiving the critical praise they deserved were Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in the original Carrie, Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs, and Linda Blair in The Exorcist. Edit: Missed Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out and Kathy Bates in Misery, but that's about it. There are sooooo many great overlooked horror performances.

Mia Goth ATE this movie, but the whole thing is so great!!! It also just shows how much mileage a horror movie can get by making the audience actually CARE about the characters before it starts killing them.
My biggest pet peeve in this movie is the lack of communication, if a friend goes missing then you tell everyone there so everyone is at least aware of the situation, then the old witch going missing at the same time, I would be having questions is all I’m saying 🤣
I straight up died at 31:22 with the look on Alanda's face just killed me. "She is moaning like a banshee from hell and his pockmarked ass is just thrusting into her." Oh Lawd LOL.
I can't wait for the prequel with Mia Goth as a young Pearl! She was so fantastic in this, I had no idea she was playing Maxine and Pearl when I first saw the film. Knowing that Mia plays both characters definitely gives an interesting perspective as to why Pearl thought that Maxine was so different and special.
Gurllll this movie is definitely an experience in theaters especially when the old ppl were having their fun times 💀 the sounds were so loud and I was there with my friends being absolutely disgusted 💀 I absolutely loved this film and it’s my favorite horror movie of the year.

really loved how they made u think Lorriane (Jenna Ortega) would be the final girl and it ends up being Maxine(Mia Goth) great plot twist ... for those of you who loved this Movie there is a prequel coming out later this year that was filmed right after X Called Pearl ... it gives more of a backstory of the old couple and some of the cast will return as new characters
I actually thought both Maxinne and Lorraine would survive but if that wasn't the case so Maxine would be the one. They always gave us signals she was the main character.
Believe it or not, the lead, Mia Goth played Maxine and she played Pearl, the old lady. For the most part it's convincing make-up, it shows a little in the third act in her face they're the same face
I definitely recommend "You're next" with everyone else. I know how you live for a final girl who's fights to survive and that movie breaths nothing but final girl energy. 🔟🔟🔟 Another film which I recommend is the Suspiria remake which also has Mia Goth. It's visually stunning.
I’d recommend the original first! Only because the remake assumes you know the beats of the 77 films. And the 2018 version includes some lore from the sequels. Plus, they’re both just really good, in very different ways
The sound that came out of my mouth when I saw you had reacted to X was as horrific as those elderly going at it, but boy, was I thrilled! 🤣 I still can't process that the disturbing old woman is played by the same person that plays Maxine, even though I clocked the resemblance in the old photographs. This movie is everything, it really was only missing your spot-on commentary. The masterpiece is now complete!
I didn’t realize until someone pointed it out, but all of the characters died (or in Jenna’s case, got trapped and then injured) trying to help someone else.
Idk if anyone cares but-... I love how sometimes these characters mirror/ imitate each other. They basically say the exact same thing another character says either to them or someone else but when they repeat it, the intent or context is different. For example, the first case we see this is with Lorraine and Bobby Lyne. Bobby lyne asks Lorraine if she helps her boyfriend with his films and she answers “sometimes”. Lorraine then asks Bobby if Jackson is her boyfriend and Bobby answers as well “sometimes 😎”. We see this mirroring a few times in the film. One of my favorites is the last, where Maxine says the words of her father “I will not accept a life I do not deserve”. Her father was a priest, and when he said those words he was talking about not a accepting a life of sin which is ironic since his daughter is the exact opposite of what he is preaching about. When Maxine uses that phrase she either talks about not accepting a life where she isn’t famous or an actress, or not accepting a life where she is controlled by conservative rules. This mirroring contrasts each one of the characters. Used to highlight either the hypocrisy, or to make fun of the person who said it first.
A24 is such a great studio. Most of their movies look absolutely beautiful and are uniquely stylized. I'm not a big horror fan but this movie is amazing.

You have to watch director Ti West’s “The House of the Devil.” One of my favorite horror films. He’s a master at portraying that period of time and building eerie tension.

In the beginning the obvious jealousy was giving me "skeleton key" vibes but this movie proved to be its own thing quite nice. You should watch skeleton key even though it's not so violent, and anyone who knows the comparison to the more recent movie kinda like it don't say anything cuz it's nothing but spoilers if you compare them.
This has been one of my favorite movies of the year easily! Saw it opening weekend and immediately preordered the blu ray. Ti really did something special with this one. Though he didn’t actually direct You’re Next (he has a small role in it) it’s still a remarkable film. His other works include House of the Devil and The Innkeepers both of which I HIGHLY recommend as well. HotD is really what put him on the map as a filmmaker.

@@NikkieTwix Yeah, it's definitely not okay if both parties don't consent and I don't really like how the others pressure him into allowing it. Although it's his reasoning for not wanting her to be with another man that makes alot of people not like him. Saying that she can't do that because she's "a nice girl" and he then begins to kinda shame the others. He even calls her a prude before she makes the decision and then gets upset when she's not being a prude anymore. It doesn't necessarily justify her making that decision while he's reluctant, but it explains why she made that decision and why the others are defending her for it. Both sides are understandable, but ultimately flawed. Even if they were polyamorous or in an open relationship, it would still be cheating if he didn't consent to her doing that. Giving consent is absolutely necessary in literally any type of relationship. Being pressured into giving consent is not real consent. Reluctant consent is not real consent. It doesn't matter if his reasoning for not giving consent was messed up, he did not consent.
Oh man I feel the creators made this for your exact reactions! The friggin moments of horror, gag-inducing creepshow, and hilarity! I loved the “Final Girl” performing vehicular homicide and then doing a line of coke at the end. 😂

I was SOOOO excited for this to come out. I bought it on Prime as soon as it was available. It took me about 3 weeks to sit down to watch it and I got to the first kill scene and didn't finish it. Not that it was bad. I think I'm in a depression or something. I heard a podcast that spoiled the ended anyway. But, Alanda with the good hair will fill me in on the rest
