I have suggested this song so many times that at this point I'm shocked someone is reacting to it. Paul Rodgers and that scathing vocal, Andy Fraser walking that bass, Simon Kirke keeping time, and, of course, that blistering guitar from Paul Kossoff equals spontaneous combustion. Unforgettable.

'60s and '70s music....there was a LOT going on socially but we all knew we were more alike than our differences. Music-wise they all fed off each other. The riffs carried the feelings. The feelings crossed from group to group. It was a great time.

I saw Paul Kossoff live 2 weeks before he died in a bar in Higanum CT, he did not look well BUT his guitar work was as sharp as ever, doing over 2 hours of his stuff and some Free songs, he killed it that night. We were not very shocked he had passed, knowing he had substance abuse issues. Great musician who self destructed.

I saw Free three times, my most favourite band ever. I just loved your reaction and you loving Free too. Paul Kossoff's guitar playing is sublime with his uniquely beautiful vibrato, Paul Rodgers bluesy vocals, Simon Kirke laying down the beat and Andy Fraser's lead bass solo, it really doesn't get any better. Thank you!

Great reaction to a great band doing a great song. As others have said, Paul Rodgers is one of the greatest voices in the history of rock: starring with Free, going into Bad Company and for a time replacing Freddy Mercury for a tour or two with Queen (which strangely worked in a way). I highly recommend doing more reactions from him and especially Free. Try out one of my favorite songs, the first I ever heard by Free: “Fire and Water”. While it has some water in it, it’s mostly fire!

No, he's a pretty uninteresting player. The real star of the band, besides Rodgers of course, is Andy Fraser. He was one of the true pioneers on bass and inspired so many future legends on the instrument: Steve Harris, Billy Sheehan and Glenn Hughes, to name but a few.

One of my favorite Free songs, It's just unfortunate that you didn't react to the live 1970 performance at the Isle of Wight Festival. It's a fantastic video and performance. One of the few instances where the live performance of a band was much more impactful than the audio. Great closeup camera work and you can also hear Paul Rodger's vocal is better (it's a little low in this mix imo.) And Paul Kossoff's guitar solo is absolutely mesmerizing to watch him in that performance. It's almost a life-changing experience to watch, lol. Seriously! I know both Jay and Amber would love seeing it.

An amazing band. They were technically a "one-hit wonder", but they had a hugely immense influence on bands that followed them in the 70's. They laid down the template for superb soulful bluesy rock. Bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foreigner, and Kansas were big fans. Three Dog Night and singers like Wilson Pickett covered their songs. And Free were so young when they did it, just out of their teens. They were a very short lived band. Were only around four years, but they left an impact for sure.

Free are No2 in my all time favourite bands list, just pipped to No1 by Queen and just beating Mott The Hoople in 3rd. So much to say about Free. The lead singer Paul Rodgers is known simply as "The Voice". Went on to front Bad Company, had some solo projects including the sensational "Muddy Water Blues" album. More recently a brief fling with Brian May & Roger Taylor as Queen + Paul Rogers. They made a very underrated album and toured the world together. Paul Kossoff on lead guitar. Son of the actor David Kossoff he battled drug addiction for most of his professional career. He died on a flight between LA & New York in 1976 from a blood clot that moved from his leg to his lungs. Andy Fraser on base went on to do solo projects and had some solo chart success. Sadly he died in 2015 from complications arising from AIDS. Finally the big hitter Simon Kirke also a founding member of Bad Company also a member of Ringo Star and his all star band. Together these guys had a chemistry that is rare. They made some amazing music together. The album Fire & Water where this track & All Right Now came from is an absolute must for any fans of British Blues. Jay & Amber you need to check out the title track from the album Fire & Water. These guys were absolutely on fire for this album. Bad Company were originally Paul and Simon from Free, Mick Ralphs from Mott The Hoople (All The Young Dudes, All The Way From Memphis, Roll Away The Stone) and Boz Burrell of King Crimson. Please check out All The Young Dudes by Mott The Hoople. Please don't forget Status Quo "Caroline" from Download Festival or Glastonbury!

The answer to Amber's question is that a lot of white bands, in the the US and like Free in the UK, went deep with Black Blues, Soul and R n B as a connection to real emotion and expression. The co writer / bassist on this is Andy Fraser, of African / European descent and 18 at the time. In the UK these were kids born around the middle or end of WW 2 and tired of the stiff old standards and looking to express what they felt honestly. When you listen to Free, remember they were a big influence on Lynyrd Skynyrd. The " Doing Their Own Thing " on UK Granada TV is unbelievable. I hope you catch what the lyrics are about, a hard working man telling some rich jerk to stay away from his woman or he's gonna bury him. The version on Free Live is a beast.

great reaction, great to hear Free other than All Right Now. They've got a great catalog. Would suggest doing Fire & Water, Oh I Wept, Goin' Down Slow, and Wishing Well. My Brother Jake is a sentimental fav.

The incomparable voice of Paul Rogers, best known as the lead singer for bands Bad Company and also The Firm, along with his solo work. Free was very early stuff, back when he and we were still pups! 😊

I was confused by the graphic at the beginning. Until I saw one of the comments I thought this was a song named "Free" by the band Mr. Big. 😅 This reminds me of Led Zeppelin with a big helping of funk.

They have a Free convention every year near where I live in North East England, a gathering of people who just love Free. People come from all over England. Last one I attended was 40th anniversary of Paul Kossoffs death. Simon Kirke attended and two bands came from Japan to play the music of Free and Paul Kossoffs solo stuff…❤️

For some modern Southern Bluesy Rock, may I suggest either JJ Grey & Mofro - Circles, Tragic, and Mississippi are my 3 favorites. Or Gary Clark Jr - Bright Lights. Love this type of sound!

Paul Francis Kossoff was an English guitarist, best known as the co-founder and guitarist for the rock band Free. He was ranked number 51 in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". RIP

Rip Paul Kossoff and Andy Fraser. That quick and unique vibrato from Paul gets me every time. He made me buy a Les Paul I don't even like playing. Andy killing that bass soio at only 18 years old, and to top it all off Paul Rogers is taking it home with those bluesy and soulful vocals. The definition of an underrated band.

Free were all teenagers when they started. Andy Fraser on bass and Paul Kossoff on guitar (rip to both) were phenomenal. Singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke went on to form Bad Company with Mott the Hoople guitarist and Boz Burrell the bassist from King Crimson (also rip to Boz).

Lead singer, Paul Rodgers was lrad singer for Bad Company after Free. And also joined Queen after Freddie Mercury Passed Away. And he still sounds as good as he did back then. ❤🎼

Did Rodgers join another band or did the band change its name? Somewhere in between. Maybe it was kind of like a Quarrymen kind of thing.

This is what us " old timers " call a "deep cut". Some of the best music by classic rock bands back in the day got little to no air play. Thank God F.M. came along in the early 70's and introduced us to album oriented rock, ( AOR), radio stations that didn't care if a song lasted over 3 minutes. If you haven't already checked it out, listen to "Iron Butterfly" and their over 17 minute "Inna Gadda Davidda". That's one of the tracks that started it all.
