You guys should do an install DIY on this. I'm in the middle of a VK swap in my Xterra. Would love to install one while I'm doing it.

Yeah, like IDGAF why i need it, I'm buying it because it looks cool and that's it, so drop an installation video and not a "why you need this" bs. We buy ya'lls product because they look cool, who cares about why we need them.

There are cheaper systems out there but this is a quality product. Build from high quality materials simple to install. I would strongly recommend spending the extra money for this catch can.

Honest non-confrontational question - Can any of the Z1 techs provide specific instances where a Nissan DI engine was adversely affected by carbon build up / gunk on the back of the valves? For possible reference, the Nissan NV200 w a DI engine has been around long enough to accrue space shuttle miles and I'm not finding any DI horror stories. As a tech instructor and a new 2022 Frontier owner, I've been looking at this issue under a proverbial electron microscope for weeks now and I'm not convinced that a catch can, spray cleaners, walnut blasting, or anything else improves the functionality, drivability, or performance of the engine in the short or mid term. My common sense thought after weeks of obsessive research says, drive the vehicle for 100k - 150k then have the system professionally walnut blasted as a matter of long-term preventative maintenance. Nissan engineers surely designed their DI engines to afford build up without adversely affecting performance or drivability. Catch cans seem to provide minimal if any benefit under this scenario and sprays seem to be little more than snake oil. I'm no expert but after countless mind-numbing SAE articles, critical expert opinions, engineer interviews, forum posts, and the like, this was my conclusion. Hoping to keep my new Frontier for 300K+ and want to be fastidious with every maintenance point on the vehicle.

You have great points but I look at it this way. Catch cans can't hurt and the fact is, oil residue is pumped back into your intake to burn in the combustion process. This is a process that's mandated by the EPA. Simply put, mixing your fuel/air charge with oil residue has, at best, no performance enhancing attributes and at worst, could cause your engine damage in the future. Thus, I use a catch can.

@@eyedentity66 Thanks for the respectful counterpoint. I really wanted to be sold on catch cans. In theory they seemed like a great idea. In the end I felt like the risk outweighed the benefit. The crankcase pressure increase was a big concern. Strapping one to the engine without knowing *exactly* how much the pressure would increase concerned me. The lack of reliable, hard data specifically on my VQ38DD engine was a deal breaker. Also, I found a couple videos of Nissan Frontiers with catch cans installed and it seemed the collected fluid was very minimal. Lastly, back to the NV200, it’s been around for many years and no horror story articles about excessive build up on the valves. I asked the local dealer about the NV200 and they said “no issues we’ve seen” in regards to build up. If I see future data where Frontier catch cans are catching excessive fluid AND a reseller could provide independent testing showing *very* little or no pressure increase on my VQ38DD, I would add one to my truck. Again, in the age of online bullying and disrespect, I appreciate your respectful counterpoint. If you see any of the data I’m after, please send it my way 😊

@@eyedentity66 Please keep me posted on your results. If you’re catching significant fluid, it might help change my mind. Again, I really want to be sold 😁

@@eyedentity66 Thanks brother! I really appreciate it. I would love to have an update once it’s installed for a while. I def won’t rule one out…just need to have some add’l data behind the decision.

Z1 has some nice stuff. but at that price for a catch can that really won't catch much anyways. I'm going to pass on this product unless someone shows proof this is needed and not having it causes damage on Nissan Frontier Engines. Thanks for the info Z1.

So for a gen 3 frontier, with the newer 3.8 direct injection engine, this is a must eh? To keep her happy
@grapplerguy2007
@grapplerguy2007 Год назад
no . direct injection gets enogh fuel spray to keep clean these came into play back when volkwagen had the gdi failures or maybe a really old vehicle with alot build up newer nissan I dont see a need for these
@TheHillrat4wd
@TheHillrat4wd Год назад
@@grapplerguy2007 I will disagree with that. In my opinion direct-injection sucks, it increases the carbon buildup inside your cylinder also increases the carbon in your engine oil, when you start adding up all the "greatest and latest" technological things that they do it's a snowball effect, direct injection plus low-friction piston rings is a bad combination. It's a proven fact you get more carbon in your oil with direct injection, that carbon then is also shorten's the life of timing chain and increasing timing chain failures because the carbon in the oil is coating the pins of the links on the chain and inhibiting lubrication of the chain. Another thing I hate about direct-injection especially with the combination of low-friction piston rings is fuel dilution in your engine oil. I could go on but I think you understand how bad I hate direct-injected Motors. 😁

@@TheHillrat4wdToyota has secondary fuel injectors to clean off the valves, I wish Nissan did the same. Honestly I’d recommend doing 3k oil change intervals with direct injection. I don’t have a 22+ frontier but I plan on buying one this year, that service interval will be my goal.
