DIY Manual Transmission 2018+ Gold Wing Tour GL1800B 6 Speed Oil Change. Goes way quicker than a DCT oil change, is less expensive than a DCT oil change, and another great reason to get a 6 Speed Gold Wing over a DCT Gold Wing.
The oil sure was dirty after only 985 miles!

Your video is spot on EXCEPT for one thing. If you leave you GL1800B upright, even removing 95ml from the 4th quart will OVER FILL your bike. Ask me how I know. I let my bike sit upright, draining for 30 minutes, the drain hole wasn't even dripping. The oil drain plug is on the left-lower side and therefore you have to put the bike on the side stand, or at least tilt it on it's left side to get out ALL the oil. Then following your directions is spot on. I do appreciate you posting this vid, there's not many out there on the 6 speed GL1800B.

Think we did have this on the side stand for the oil change, our first. Thanks Joe

Thanks for the video. I bought a used 2018B and I love it. Still has full Honda warranty. My first oil change before parking for the winter is tomorrow and you're right you can save a lot of $$ doing this yourself.

After you initially drain the oil you can take the bike off center stand and use side stand to get the remaining oil out much quicker.

I called a dealer in Oak Creek WI. and they said I had to buy an o ring and a plug. I protested but they said everyone buys the new drain plugs with every oil change. On my 09 I never even changed the crush washer, no problem. I have never heard of any type of vehicle where you throw away the drain plug!

Most excellent....thats my bike with 16,000 miles. I've had many, but nothing compares to my wing. 72 years of riding...FASTEDDIE

It would be helpful to specifically go through the tools used, and why you chose the filter you did and also why you chose the brand of oil. I had never seen the filter wrench before and would guess there are lots of different brands of oil to choose from also. Otherwise a very helpful video!

Doing another oil change will include that input

I'll give you one tip. I fill the oil filter with oil. Usually about 3 times. Until it stops equalizing both sides of the filter pleats. Than put it on the bike. When you start the bike there is no waiting for the oil light to go out. Reducing a dry run condition.

That’s what I did when I changed to oil in my 2018 Goldwing Tour. Easiest bike oil change since I had my Nighthawk 750

If I’m not mistaken the oil drain bolt is on the side so you do not use a center stand. Also, check owner manual. First oil change does not occur until first service. However, my Triumph was after 500.

Hello Bill, my Dealer recommended first at 600 miles. I will not wait 4000 miles between changes, most likely will do every 2500 miles. It was easier to work on with center stand down, and more accessible. ODTRP

Seems over tightening the oil filter can get pricey. Pro oil changers tighten the filter by hand mostly. If using a wrench only 1/4 turn for goodness sakes man!

What drives me nuts is riders who don't install a fresh crush washers. Something that cost 20 cents. Its purely laziness.

Did you warm up the oil before the change? Seemed pretty thick when it ran into the drain pan. My Honda Oil filter wrench stuck to the old filter too. Removing it from the old filter was a pain. I have the DCT. Like you say, similar but a few more steps. What is the magic of waiting for 10K miles before switching to Honda Synthetic? Im sticking with the Dino 10W30 Honda GN4 oil. Just curious what is the magic of 10K.
@OnDownTheRoadProductions
@OnDownTheRoadProductions 2 года назад
Yes on oil warm up. Its not magic, Dealer again recommended to wait until 10K, when the engine is more broken in, for synthetic.
@chadolson1864

So sir is that the break in oil that you just took out? I have a 21 6 speed as well I bought it with 1,500 miles on it and I have no record of the break in oil being changed every body I talked to say don’t get the break in oil out until you have reached 4,000 miles any advice would be great thanks
@OnDownTheRoadProductions
@OnDownTheRoadProductions 2 года назад
The first oil change is advisable within 90 days. On the 6-Speed very easy to perform. Wait until the bike crosses 10000 miles to use synthetic oil. Only hand tighten or lightly tighten the oil filter, do not over torque. We have had one oil change, and will do the next one at 4000 miles. So yes, change your oil now

Can someone help how many quarts does this bike take a very simple question. Ok I heard him say 1/10 of a quart out of one of the bottles

5 quarts fifth one is partial. Look at the owners manual.

@@OnDownTheRoadProductions Its 3.9 Quarts. Just under 4 for the six speed. DCT's get an extra quart
@davidsanbeg5751

3.9 quarts when changing oil and filter, 3.7 when just changing oil. That's on the GL1800B 6-speed.

I would have returned the wrench. Mechanics buy their own tools.

Sometimes, if it was that important the mechanic would not have left it under the hood where it could cause serious damage - just saying

Just so you know, mechanics buy their own tools in most if not all dealerships. So, when you figure you are getting one up on the dealership you are actually taking $150.00 or so out of the mechanics pocket. Not cool.
@OnDownTheRoadProductions
@OnDownTheRoadProductions 2 года назад
We guess every great mechanic leaves their tools in the engine, where they can cause catastrophic damage while a vehicle is being driven. There was no one up here. More like utter disgust with a sloppy dealership mechanic.

I'm dealership technician and everyone once in awhile I accidently leave a tool somewhere. Thank goodness my customers are respectful and honest to return them to me. Like mentioned above, I have to buy all my tools out of my own paycheck. I'm also a fellow bike rider and I also owned a 2020 rocket 3r, but I'm very disappointed in you and your logic for stealing the tool that you admitted it wasn't yours and you know exactly what dealership it came from.
