Shop tip from ToolScouter. The best way to keep and maintain your tools is to have your oil rag in a can, on your workbench, at the ready. Let me demonstrate in this video.
A lady was giving me the stink eye in the canned food section wondering what I was doing to the cans. Of course I told her that ToolScouter told me to do this ( was trying to find the best large can small can combination.) HaHa great suggestion best way of managing a protective coating on tools so far. Thanks
I most often hear Ballistol described as smelling like Black Licorice, I don't like that smell so I'd likely go with something else myself.....But the idea seems great and simple too.
Whatever you like works. That’s interesting to hear the descriptive smell of Bellistol. I have always liked the smell and never put it together that way. But whatever works for you go for it. Have a great day
Thanks Toolscouter, you sent me a link to this a few day's ago, will definitely make one, such a simple but great idea, thanks again my friend, 👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧✌️
Welcome to the channel, glad to have you from Holland. You’re the first person. I’ve heard complain about the smell. But I understand not everybody has the same taste. Good thing you can use whatever kind of oil you like. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching. Have a happy New Year’s.
I have seen that before and you are absolutely right it is more versatile, you can get into smaller places and wipe flat surfaces with a rag. In the ToolScouter shop we don’t only use the rag in the can. Regular rugs are reserved for tight spaces but this is nice for flatter surfaces. I do appreciate you stopping by the shop for a visit and sharing your thoughts. Hope you have a great day.
The oiler is brilliant. I don't know about Ballistol though, it's water soluble and in very humid conditions will take on more water and generate rust, it happened to me.
I have used one of these for years on my planes. I use a much smaller can to hold the rag and keep it in a plastic cottage cheese container with a lid that snaps on. I also soak it with ballistol and use it on everything.
I didn’t get it from Paul but whoever I got it from may have very well gotten it from him. In any case, it’s genius and works wonderfully. Have a good holiday weekend.
Most definitely not original with me. I’m just sharing it with others. I think Paul Sellers is where I saw it or maybe Wranglerstar. Thanks so much for stopping by though. I hope you have a great week.
@@toolscouter ….. right…. I meant Paul Sellers. That’s where I saw it 6 months prior. Your addition of a cover may/ may not be beneficial but I think that was your idea.
Many oils can be use for this, but maybe better not use linseed oil in this kind of projects or other similar oils which are known for spontaneous combustion.
