Hey Michael...this is the primary reason that channels like yours, should never have videos taken down by record labels and other artists. I may have never, ever found this group on my own and the are awesome. I just don't understand how a record company not see the value in what people like you, Rick Beato and other reactors/teachers do. Thank you!
I agree there is so much out there that we'd never get to hear otherwise. Michael was so excited, it's contagious . . . I love seeing how people react over good music. It is even better when you get to play along with it. I agree but everyone needs to make a living. If I was trying to profit my channel I would have been shot-down long ago. I'm just a hobbyist at heart for playing guitar. Starting to learn to play at the age of 40 was a huge thing for me. They do understand, but not if your profiting from them directly. If you love something, you will do it for free. I have more songs than subs - but really it doesn't bother me. I'd like more, but it's not the reason why I do it.
To almost quote other replies here, the next best thing to great music is to watch and realise just how other people react to music. So reaffirming. People can be so, so real. Soak it up, and live off it. Jump up and down. Wander about the room not realising just what the heck is going on....ahhh. love it!!
Canadian music scene rocks! Literally. For a relatively small country, there's something for everyone. Always has. From one end of the country to the other.
We're bigger than you are. In fact we have a little town in Saskatchewan called Biggar, when you drive into town there's a sign that says 'New York is big, but this is Biggar'
Really starting to love and respect the Canadian people from listening how nice and polite they are. So calm and level headed. And tough. Great music too.
As a Canadian, we often bitch about the amount of taxes we pay. When I see some of my Loonies going towards creating quality productions such as this and supporting local artists, it eases the pain a bit. Consider this a gift to the world from all Canadians. Enjoy.
Your joy at this tune is so infectious! Love it! Yeah, Bahamas is awesome. One of my favorite artists to emerge over the last decade. I return to their music all the time for this kind of vibe from them. "Lost in the Light" is another absolute gem of a tune
I totally dig all the many musical elements in this tune. Quite unique and enjoyable. This felt like a tabletop jam at a bar with musicians that have met weekly for 10 years and know each other so well, but it was so homey. Another couple Canadian bands you should check out (They're straight up rock) The Glorious Sons from Brampton, Ontario who have some great undertones in their music. The Dudes from Banff, Alberta, which unfortunately haven't released anything for a bit if you're looking for new stuff. Or Colter Wall from Saskatchewan who has a very unique roots, Canadiana, country sound to him. Super interesting. There's also The Beaches from Manitoba with an all-girls rock/punk rock indie type of sound. All super good artists. Also, the really thin clouds are cirrus clouds. Stratus are generally lower, flat and typically fill the sky.
That was great. Thanks for highlighting this band. Apparently, we're like-minded, the adjective I was holding onto for that entire song was "restraint". That was a display in restraint. Well done.
I'm South African and i don't remember how i discovered Bahamas but i've been in love for a few months now. What a revelation they've turned out be. All The Time might be my favorite but it could also be So Free 🤷🏾♀️ And yes, Canadians are fucking awesome in their artistry!
Yes! I went and seen Bahamas in Detroit this past October, 200 or so people there, Afie came out by himself, just him and his guitar and it was my favorite concert, he’s hilarious too, great crowd interaction love the music!
This is cool. This very video is how I discovered Bahamas. That was about two years ago and I swear to God I am probably a third of their streams on Spotify since then. Afie is one of the most unique and skilled song writers ever to play the game. And he's a dope ass family man. Literally can't get enough Bahamas. Can't wait for the sixth album.
I loved this. Was my first time as well hearing this. And experiencing that with you amplified the whole thing. This hit home. Thanks for the human connection over bits and bytes!
Currently in a Nathanial Rateliff and Bahamas rabbit hole because my barbershop had them playing in the background while I was getting my haircut. I'm hooked. Great stuff!
Have seen Bahamas at The Winnipeg Folk Festival in Winnipeg Canada. He isamazing! He captivates you with his music. He sweeps you away where you forgot about everything else and enjoy. So good! Not sure where you are but please try to see him live!
I am fortunate enough to have seen Bahamas live TWICE in my hometown Kelowna BC. One of which was outside after a rain storm. It was magical y’all. If you get a chance, definitely go see them. One of the best live acts out there.
Love Bahamas. Not because I'm Canadian, but really they're just so good. The CBC promotes a lot of our talent, both in music and in books. I've found so many gems just listening to the CBC. Love you too.
CBC streaming app is called Gem... as the saying goes, we sleep next to an elephant, and if we don't maintain and communicate our Canadian-ness, then we will be the fifty-first state. @gwh0 - no idea what your comment was about, because it was basically empty. "Not really" as a retort is up there with "because" as an explanation. My 13 year-old kids know the only value it has is describing more about the person uttering such a meaningless response than anyone else in the conversation. Then again, it may be you're 5 years old and just haven't yet figured it out. Consider it a project you can work on as you head toward double-digits.
Just saw these guys live for the second time recently. They are fantastic. Afie is not only an awesome musician but a super cool dude. They toured with this girl Madison Cunningham who is also worth a listen if you haven’t heard of her. She opened for them with just an electric guitar and a microphone and she was absolutely captivating. Killer guitarist.
When “Earthtones” lp was released I sat a friend down and played him the first 3 songs on a very nice stereo. His reaction was pretty much the same as yours. Masterful in every way…
I'll never be able to play the guitar, I'm a harmonica player that will hopefully someday learn to play the piano, but you help me better understand the many things I feel and love about quality music. Love your channel and what you do here!
Don't know how I got here perhaps my love of music totally worth it to see your contained excitement in something new and amazing. I love their sound Rock on Canada.
Saw them in Dec '21. You're in for a good show. Ariel is great on the CD, but he can use some roadies to help with his live sound. Bahamas are sooo good. I'm excited for you! Be prepared for a good flight.
This, to me, is orchestration of both tone and silence. A significant part of true artisanship imo is taking away all that doesn't "belong" and only adding what does. The musicianship of this reminds me of the beauty in Steely Dan--which I've loved for many decades. Thank you for sharing this with us. You've made my day, after yet another memorial service, much better.
Sometimes it's as much what you leave out as it is what you put in. The true art is knowing how. You nailed it LibertyNotLicense. And for what it's worth, sincere condolences to you. Sending much love and healing vibes your way. Stay strong and all the best from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦
Canada hasd and continues to have some really great musicians, athletes and actors and sadly they are often overlooked or never heard outside Canada. Thank you for playing one of my favourite bands. BAHAMAS definitely deserve some more recognition although my favourite is still Tragically Hip and if you never heard or reacted to them I highly recommend checking them out. Excellent video
Thanks for the Canadian love buddy. I recommend listening to Dan Mangan for a reaction as well. A few songs are standouts to me. Troubled Mind, Mouthpiece, Lay Low, and Sold.
I can’t wait until he listens to more Bahamas! I agree with the comment about all the bands(Blue rodeo, the hip, Kathleen Edwards, Jim Bryson, Ron Sexsmith…). We the North! Great great bands!!
‘Fiddlers Green’. Mr. Palmisano absolutely should do a reaction to this incredibly heartfelt Song. Please encourage this to happen!! It’s a song with such conviction and humanity it has to effect everyone that gives it the space to do so.
Yes! This is such an aching, yet beautiful and perhaps hopeful song that centres around a young boy dying. I believe it was Gord Downie's nephew. The open E tuning allows it to ring out and sustain, just like his thoughts over the ocean and into Fiddler's Green.
I’m from Canada and I had never heard of this band… loved it. Lots of talented musicians in Canada. Legends your country has barely even heard. Come on in- the water’s fine…
Canada does have its share of talented musicians, and comedians, and actors! Another amazing group you should check out is the Dwayne Gretzky band. They do terrific covers, with a lot of respect for the original versions. Different members are given the vocal leads and the talent shines through every one.
Huge D'Angelo vibe here on the groove. Reminds me of "One Mo'Gin" from his Voodoo record and that is a very good thing. Without any question this track is heavily inspired by that album. Love it.
I'm from Canada. Never heard of these guys. But I mostly listen to talk radio, jazz, and classical stations now. Once in a while i will Tune in my local rock station I grew up with, but they became too repetitive. It makes total sense that they were on CBC (FM 94.1). That station plays some sweet stuff that I don't really hear on any of the other stations we have here. I'm a hard rock guy, but listen to everything (except for north american pop music). Will have to listen out for these guys.
Michael you are so cool dude - your appreciation for music as an art form is so contagious - love your stuff ...... thanks for sharing your love of music with all of us !!!!!!
Michael if you like Canadian bands you've never heard before then I suggest you search up SPOON BEND out of Toronto! They recently released a self titled debut album that they premiered on a local news outlet up here. Their ages range from 18-20 years old and have put out an original album mixed with songs ranging from alternative to a sort of jazz/psychedelic sound. My favourite out of the music they have put out is "Butterfly" off their 5 song EP titled ARBORISTS IN TRAINING. Would love to see you review them!
Of course they’re great they are from 🇨🇦. I was wondering if provided Baritone Ukulele courses. I started on an acoustic but now have an electric ( custom built by Fanner in South Africa). I need private lessons since I’m kind of stuck and need some direction. I’m still beginner level and need that push and structure only a one on one teacher can provide. You are so passionate about your music and others and are a real talent ( suck up much) Hope to hear from you!
Hey Rosetta! is another exceptional Canadian band. "Young Glass" would be my recommended song of theirs to check out. It has a great riff and lyrics that evoke an intense nostalgia for one's childhood (in my opinion).
Definitely a talented band. Other great Canadian bands: The Fugitives - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ANdaDv3oJwE.html Half Moon Run - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XmHLRPAqEDM.html
If you like Canadians you must do a review of The Tragically Hip. Gord Downy was a brilliant Poet. The Hip were absolute riff machines. Their last tour when Gord had brain cancer was impactful at a level way beyond simple rock and roll (although the Hip had that in spades).
Found this while searching some new Dead South songs (also from Canada, as am I) and I love watching Mike P's reaction videos. Will look for more Bahamas. Just wanted to add, does this first song he played remind anyone else of a non-grunge version of In Bloom by Nirvana?
Jeez, I discovered Bahamas on Mahogany Sessions 9 years ago… Lost In The Light absolutely rocked my world. But it’s one of those groups that I sadly forgot about when I switched streaming apps and no longer had in my list. Great to see they’re still turning out some groovy stuff. Know what I’ll be listening to for the next little while.
Actually laughed out loud at Michael's "oh shit yeah" as soon as the song started picking up. I don't know anything about guitars or technicalities of music, but I love these videos.
If you truly like rhythm and story telling you should check out sleeping alone by the flatland cavalry, you won’t regret it. Talk about painting a picture
The look on your face at 4:40. Priceless. It was a delight to watch you get smacked around by Afie's velvet vibe and the band's impeccable delivery. Garden variety it ain't. That combination of lurking power and sweet restraint am I right? I hope they see this. It's such a sweet tribute, straight from the heart. Happy trails 👍🇨🇦
MICHAEL!!!!! I assumed you had exposure to a band my family, and many others, have been listening to for what's nearly a decade at this point. You MUST go back and enjoy the previous works. Start at the beginning and appreciate the evolution. Very under appreciated, in the US at least. This is everyday groovin with my wife music. The best is yet to be discovered, he can rrrrrrrrip. Also, The Heartless Bastards latest record is worth everyone's time!
As a French Canadian, i am delighted that you are doing a review on Bahamas. I've been into this been since 2012 when they released the album Pink Strat in 2009 and Bahamas is Afie in 2014. This man is a beast live.
Such a great band seen them multiple times, the guitar player actually makes an appearance in the documentary “Carmine Street Guitars” which is a sick HBO doc if you’ve never seen it!
Please check out The Sheepdogs from Saskatchewan, Canada 🍁 their live version of their new single “Keep on Loving You” is a BOP . Also we need a reaction to a Canadian icon: Rush
During lockdown, Afie played with some different rhythm sections online series(Live To Tape), they're all awesome, different, more of a jam feel. The regular touring band are incredibly tight and definitely buy into Afie's love for less is more. I'm looking forward to seeing them again in a few weeks
OMG! What are the chances! Flipped to your channel to see your reaction to fellow Canadian Jeff Healey and then saw this! The woman who is singing with him is my BFF's daughter Felicity Williams!! They are a very innovative group and are currently out on tour. Needless to say, I have followed them from day one. Having a vested interest, I am rather biased, but glad you appreciated their creativity.!!
If we're talking modern Canadian bands you should do a video of Half Moon Run. They're amazing and the way they craft songs are just just amazing. Full Circle, Call Me in the Afternoon, Favourite Boy are all great tracks I'd recommend but they have countless
I’m Canadian but somehow never heard of this band. It was awesome. Thank you for that. Great reaction on your part. You could tell you were really into it. I will definitely check out more of your videos. Another great Canadian band you might like is Half Moon Run. Check out their song Full Circle. From the BBC 1 sessions. That was their first hit back in 2013 I believe. Enjoy
I remember years ago hearing Afie on CBC radio when he was just a sprout. I wrote "Bahamas" on the fridge and ordered an album. If I had to rely on commercial radio I'd probably still never have heard of him. So appropriate that this performance was on "the Ceeb" as well. What a treasure, a model of restraint and taste.
As I guy who loves Canadians, I was surprised when I glanced through your videos list that you’ve never reacted/responded to RUSH, the ultimate Canadian export. Neil Peart is widely considered one of the top 3 rock drummers of all time, Geddy Lee is definitely in the top ten bassists of all time, but Alex Lifeson often gets overlooked on guitar. I’d love to see your take on Alex’s playing. Keep up the great work, man!
Thank you for introducing these tunes to us. Musically very educative, playful videos. It puts me in a mindset where I pick up the instrument to dissect the architecture myself. Generally your taste in music is a service to us, as you put forth musicians/melodies that deserve to be heard. Your video on the Bluegrass album was also really good. Keep up the good work!
Fight - The Tragically Hip. Possibly one of their best songs that isn’t played much. Great guitar. powerful bass. Clean and precise drums and unreal vocals Edit: Check out The Trews
Glad you found this great group! Afie’s guitar player Christine Bougie is even BETTER on lap steel!! One of the most subtle, tastiest players you’ll ever find.
Ah Bahamas! I've loved Afie's music for years and he is a definite Indie favourite up here in Canada. If you like this track, check out hHckey Teeth and Half Your Love.
FABULOUS !! A great lesson in RESTRAINT. I try writing songs & sometimes - on paper - two chords & simple rhymes don´t seem enough. Time to REWIRE me brain i reckon!! Thanks Mike & Canada I needed something mellow after being soundman at a small Jazz gig last night! Ya can´t turn down a bloody TRUMPET!! Cheers from Madrid
