You’re really making my week Caitlin💜 Little note, Korea DOES view BTS as musicians. What the video said was that the concept of an idol was ORIGINALLY viewed as manufactured products, because it WAS. Idols were just entertainers for teenagers or nerds to consume, and they rarely made any of their own music. They were like manufactured products that would burn bright, but soon get forgotten. None of them really stood out since they were all just shaking their bodies and singing catchy but meaningless words that their company gave them. But of course, some idols broke those ‘rules’ and BTS is one of them. They are truly viewed as artists and the nation’s pride. Just wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding because I’ve seen so many people say BTS is being mistreated in Korea, and that’s not true. Sure, they were looked down on when they first debuted, but really, every new group from small companies were treated that way. Thankfully, with BTS proving a group from a small company can be amazing too, I feel like the discrimination towards minors have decreased immensely. What I’m saying is, BTS is treated as royalty in Korea now. Of course, there are haters in Korea too, but that’s the same with everywhere else in the world. On another note, I would like to recommend you Sohyang (another Korean singer) once BTS week is over! She’s considered to be the best female vocalist at LEAST in Korea, and vocal coaches all over the world have praised her. I’ve seen your Dimash videos and how much you liked him, so I thought you might enjoy her performances too! Though all her stages are out of this world, my personal favorites are Holo Arirang, Mona Lisa, and Home. (P.s. I LOVE your song too!) Of course, you don’t have to film your reaction if you don’t want to, but I really wanted to recommend her to you! -love from South Korea💜

Thank you for this comment! 💜- Yes i mentioned that they were stepping out of that and I do understand that the boys are basically royalty now as they should be lol but thank you for saying that other groups also got mistreated. @@bluelavender8041 I agree that BTS are now highly regarded in Korea, however, it should be noted that they are still not receiving support from the media in Korea. As an example, Korean journalists have given BTS minimal press coverage for their many accomplishments and even downplayed their recent Grammy nomination. Here’s a link to an interview of music critic, Kim Young Dae, who talks about the significance of BTS’s Grammy nomination and how they are being mistreated by their country’s media. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n1qZzHGNIkE.html Also, at the 7:46 mark, Mr. Kim talks about the reason behind why BTS is still not supported by the Korean media industry. BTS has become globally successful even though they basically bypassed the traditional route of relying on established media companies.

@@JC-fw9bg thank you for writing this! As someone living in Korea, I didn’t really realize it. I’ve seen so many broadcasts and articles made for them, media and celebrities are praising them, and there even has been BTS exclusive content coming up on mainstream TV ever since they won their first Billboard Hot 100 number1! (I’m sorry if my english isn’t making any sense. I might be making up words without realizing) I’ve watched the video you linked in your comment, and I have to say, I didn’t know there was content like this! After watching it, and I guess even before watching it, yes, I agree that BTS is downplayed by quite some parts of the media. It’s really ridiculous. I get why they’re doing it, but they should know that going against BTS at this point wouldn’t do them any good. My only source of information was just what I watched on the news daily, little articles, and the opinions of those around me or on the internet. But what Mr. Kim said was really insightful! Thank you again for adding more information to this matter!

I appreciate you watching this series, and going through the effort and learning more about BTS's history as well as how the K-Pop industry was when the debuted/how it is now. I see a lot of reactors just react to BTS's MVs and performances, but they fail to understand BTS's story and how difficult it was for them to get where they are, and how much discrimination they still face. A big part of their backstory has to do with the K-pop industry and how much control K-media has in helping groups gain success. Even now there are still media companies in Korea still try to downplay their success because they rose to the top without the help of mainstream media because they came from a small virtually unknown company (seriously, you should see some of the Korean news outlets talking about their Grammy nomination as if it isn't a big deal). And the western industry wants to paint them as this generic boyband and attempts to box them in under this label of "k-pop". And I have nothing against the label k-pop, but Western media likes to constantly talk about "the dark side of k-pop" and how none of the idols are actually artists, they're all manufactured and fake, etc. And they LOVE to write articles about it and use images/thumbnails of BTS, even though BTS never followed the original structure of the k-pop industry. They use BTS's popularity and notoriety to get clicks, and at the same time connect them to this BS narrative to non-fans that don't know any better. This docuseries has been fantastic so far. It's nice because it gives you all the info in one complete chronological narrative, rather than having to search out all the info and piece it together yourself.

It also really shows the early struggles RM had with the transition from hip hop to Idol and how that tied into his identity as person. Jimin was dropping facts about BTS members in that log. He had them pegged early on. 😂 J-Hope the Mom dancer.

It really hits me hard knowing that back then . V was a secret member and didn’t get any screen time before their debut cause they where afraid other companies would steal him .😢😭 It’s sad cause he was always hidden until they had debuted. That’s why you never saw him in the entire video or the blog . He used to sit next to be garbage can🗑 cause they would be recording the boys . It’s must of had been hard for him to be left in the dark for a long time. But am glad now he can be free and not get aside

Thank you so much for making this week amazing! I am not sure what to say about this reaction, because there are so many things I want to point out which will come up in future episodes and I don't want to give you spoilers. What I can say is that I am really happy you are enjoying your journey discovering BTS and I am glad to be able to help you with it. Thank you for reacting to this series, it is incredibly made and I am sure the information will be really helpful. Take care of yourself and stay safe. Borahae 💜

- the song that you liked in the beginning, I THINK (correct me if I'm wrong) is We Are Bulletproof - the first one that came before We Are Bulletproof: Part 2 - it never got on an album, so not too many people are as familiar with it - I'd never seen this documentary before (and I'm liking it so far) - it's showing all the harsh parts of the kpop training process, and then contrasting it to the fact that BigHit and Bang-PD-nim did NOT do the harsh factory processes of the Big 3 entertainment companies, but they went with a more customized program for the boys - they were still harsh, in their own way - like you pointed out, you can't achieve this level of greatness without going through this - but they were more revolutionary with it (if the process was a pleasant and happy one, everyone would do it - this is why kpop idols are as amazing as they are - they are all survivors of some truly painful and difficult experiences - you can't just be world famous because you wake up one morning and think it'd be fun to do - it takes actual work and doing things you are going to be uncomfortable doing) - not sure if you noticed, but those early live streams and vlogs the boys put out, they never mention or show Taehyung - this is because, until right before they debuted, Tae was a "secret weapon" - he was there the entire time, training with them, they just didn't reveal him - fighting - since the "f" sound doesn't exist in Korean, you will also see it subtitled in English as "ppaiting" or "hwaiting", which is how it's spelled and pronounced in Korean - basically, it's an encouragement - like when in English, people say "you can do it!!!" - it's like wishing to give someone fighting strength/spirit

14:35 it's we are bulletproof pt.1 that rm and some other trainees made long before debut, they rearranged it a bit and wrote some new lyrics and also performed it with bangtan in 2015 i think

One thing, the things that are shown about kpop in the beginning are true, it was even more heavy in the earlier years, now it’s less but there is still mistreatment of bands by other companies. SM, the main reason of the convos, stereotypes the West has about kpop which was caused by them for ex. (manufactured people, slave contracts, forced plastic surgery, dating bans , extreme diets), they’re also one of the reasons BTS suffered a lot by many things, you would see in the continuing eps. i think. Even though BTS do count as kpop, at the same time, is not. Cause they were mocked by the industry for their everything. Their music, performances, their company being small and not having control over broadcasting stations like other big3. So i don’t want to definate them by just kpop. They’re more than that. People acting like they “like” them, and counting THEIR wins as a win for KPOP, for THEMSELVES, for their convenience when they please, as if their history isn’t filled with ridiculing, trying to bring them down for every little thing they did. Bang PD didn’t dictate them, they had to work hard, them and the company both, with filming from morning to the night with their managers, staff, letting them put their own thoughts, lyrics, contributiıns to their music etc. BigHit is the best company for us, they aren’t perfect but still good. They aren’t like other companies, they treat their artist generally right. So when someone comes and tries to mass eveything from the other kpop companies wrong doings, the things caused by their fandoms, attacks, hatred, ridiculousness onto BTS but then come around and say “it’s a win for kpop, a big step for kpop” with their chest, they should know they won’t be getting away with it. YES, BTS is KPOP, YES, they PAVED many ways, brought MORE attention to KPOP but THAT’S NOT what they’re limite to, so stop with the convos like that. They were alienated by both their own society, industry bc of their style, success and also by the western part, the bad talk, ridiculing, going all to them as a target. Easy right, haa, a group of people to hate on, without knowing enough/anything, conveniently, by your own will. U can see the most talked sh*t about and most loved are them. I think that’s one of the reasons people hate, get mad at ARMY, cause there are people who actually like them, are willing to protect, defend them from the bad as much as they can, while most of us are good, welcoming people, they find it convenient to even throw their own mistakes to us, mentioning our name, talking about us in whatever conversation. They are jealous that there are people who love them and are willing to be there for them while there aren’t people like that for theirself. This is what we call people who do that (haters), “showing, projecting their own self-hatred, insecurities to them”. But their number 1 hater is what they see when they look in the mirror. Ok this was a rant, sorry for writing too long. Thanks for the reaction, please also check out “the mistreatment of BTS”, it’s the newest one, it will pop up when you search it on youtube. It’s an important one. Btw. sorry if i came off as rude, that wasn’t my intention.

I agree with you, but I think we should be more critical of BigHit. While they gave BTS more artistic freedom than SM would, they still put members on unhealthy and extreme diets, and did not pay them enough such that the members were frequently went hungry during their trainee days. This is unacceptable behavior from a company.

"Fighting" is a term for encouragement...like: ➡ You got this!! ➡ Good luck!! ➡ Break a leg!! (Idiom) 😂 ➡ You can do it!! ➡ You go girl/boy!! ➡ Let's go team!! ➡ Whoo hoo!! ➡ Wish you the best!! ➡ Wish you the best of luck!! It's a very endearing term with a burst of positive energy on top.

I can't wait for chapter 2 so we can finally see Tae's parts, hopefully. Watching this video with him barely being shown and not being in the group logs made me as sad as when we recently had to watch performances without Suga. 😢 I know why he wasn't in this one much and it's a part of their story so I will wait patiently for the next Episode! I'm not sure if anyone else put this in the comments yet, I haven't read them all, but Seo Taiji actually passed down the torch to BTS a few years back and they did a concert with Seo Taiji. If you come across the concert videos with Seo Taiji and BTS together it was really something. The song Come Back Home was also remade by BTS but originally a Seo Taiji and Boys song. He specifically wanted BTS to remake it. There was also a KBS song festival performance where BTS performed Classroom Idea by Seo Taiji and it was amazing. Here is the link to the performance, only click it if you don't plan on reacting to it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YvjJwk1YrUI.html

I love this series. A little side note that you might not notice in the clip, when Jimin and Jungkook are doing that Valentine's Day log in 2013, the music in the background is A$AP Rocky's F**king Problems. I never fail to completely lose it when Jimin says, "Today was Valentine's Day," and in the background it's, "I love bad b*tches that's my f**king problem." LMAO

Kook was 15 in Korean age when he was signed into BTS. In Korea they calculate age differently. You should Google it. It’s very interesting. He was actually only 13-14 International age. (The age he would have been considered to be in North America.)

Blue lavender is correct, thank you for this week. No but really the year BTS debuted (2013) 36 boy groups and 31 girl groups that's 163 boys and 121 girls debuted. Most of these groups were put together by a company chose them from a hand full of auditions done by only a few agencies a year. Their music is produced for them and their look is directed by a skilled staff of artist in the field of cosmetics and fashion. Then they choreograph the songs and it is entertainment. But the entertainment agencies (the alphabet companies of Korea MBC, JCP ...) see these groups as manufactured products that they can put into slots like domino pieces. Of the 67 groups that debuted in 2013 BTS is the sole survivor to make it to 2020. In fact in kpop most groups do not last their 7th year because of clashing personalities, slave contracts, members leaving or even dying, and members marrying (which to kpop is a fate worse than death.)
