I agree with you on that "watching it yourself and form an opinion thing". I dont know how much "reality" is really shown in a reality show (all reality shows in general) but I believe that BTS learned something from what they experienced in that show that helped them grow as an artist and as a human being.
@LMBOatU

I agree. We have to remember that it captured them in time and at that time that’s who they were and what they went through. It shaped them into who they are today. They learned a lot and networked with Warren G, Coolio and the lady who inspired Whoopi Goldberg’s character in Sister Act! I mean come on!??

American Hustle Life is one of my favorite reality show of BTS it's an emotional rollercoaster and if you're just sensitive you'll not going to get the context of that show, many army says BTS treated unfairly/bad in this show but for me this show helps create the BTS we know today. Music, specifically hip hop, helped Yoongi to get through his dark times. It is something that will always be with him and support him. It gave him purpose in life and made his life meaningful, as he said himself. So i think he understood and felt the same when Coolio said that hip hop is not a joke and it is his life

Caitlin, I just receive so much joy when watching your reactions! Somethings I keep wanting to let you know: I’m a 71 year old white American woman raised in Southern California who has lived in Germany and Sweden for the last 30+ years. I have been married to a Swedish man for 23 years. I have ALWAYS loved dancing! (I can’t, but oh my parents-especially my mother! They introduced us to jitterbug, and please believe me, they knew what they were doing! Oh yes, and my sister, 13 months younger than me. Oh her moves!) So one day, looking on RU-vid for dance routines to cheer me up (Fred Astair/Ginger Rogers; Gene Kelly; Gregory Hines) unexpectedly I encountered BTS. I was mesmerized. I wanted MORE! What I never expected was that the “more” which I was destined to experience would also gift me with a world wide family. Including you, if you will have me. Caitlin, you are bound for greatness! Oh, my name is Jerri.

It's always annoyed me that people saw how "mean" Coolio was to BTS and immediately went to hating AHL, and hating him for how he treated the boys. Never mind the fact that when things are hard, THAT is when we learn lessons that stick with us for the rest of our lives. I'm GLAD they experienced all the hardships they did - not because they deserved to feel bad, not because they deserved to suffer, but because that stress and suffering taught the boys to be strong, to look within themselves for strength, rather than hold out a hand and wait to be handed their success. They learned to APPRECIATE what they had, because they fought for it, worked for it, and understand fully what it took to get that success. They weren't just given success and accolades for being cute and likeable - there are plenty of cute and likeable people out there. There are plenty of people with talent out there. Not all of those people manage to become successful. This is the difference - the work ethic, the struggle, the appreciation, and the humility. We love the boys for their humility - it is the hardships they went through that MADE them humble, kind, polite, appreciative, and generous. While moments in AHL were uncomfortable to watch and hard to sit through, ALL of them, including the worst moments, are what made the boys who they are now. The struggles are what make them great. We shouldn't be so quick to demonize the struggle. Of course we hate to see them hurt - but we love to see them rise above it. If no one ever had to rise above hardship, then no one would ever feel a sense of accomplishment.

This! All this! Plus, ppl who say Coolio was mean seem to overlook that what he said held actual merit and value for them as both artists and people. Further, the show also has scenes of his geniune appreciation for their efforts and growth and music (but that's somehow overlooked too).

For all of the cringey or questionable shit AHL had in it, it also had some really important lessons that really made BTS who they are. There are parts of AHL that I can't stand but there are also parts that I really love and I think it's pretty monumental in BTS's story of learning about the history and background of Hip-Hop/Rap and where it actually started. Could it have been better handled, yes. But this was incredibly early on in their career and it's hard to say how much control BigHit had over certain aspects of the show. Regardless, I think everyone interested in understanding BTS's background and history should watch it and keep an open mind because again even though there are some question people involved and some of the content is odd or again cringey there are also some really beautiful and empowering moments for BTS and I believe that a lot of what they learned here has and will stick with them for the rest of their lives. It's also important to understand that there was a lot of shady incident in the past between k-media and BTS, hell Tae and Hobi were forced to kiss in Rookie King another show they were on and a lot of people actually like Rookie King but I digress. Due to big broadcasters having shares and money in other companies, primarily SM and YG, they tended to treat BTS poorly especially when they started to compete directly with groups from the companies they supported. I feel like a lot of people assumed BTS was respected or had a place in Korean Media and the entertainment industry there but that isn't really the case. There was and still is a lot of Media play controlled by SM and YG to make their groups look better or somehow competitive to BTS (even though numbers state otherwise) while simultaneously downplaying BTS's success as nothing more than apart of the Hallyu wave but if the Hallyu wave was, in fact, a thing then there would be other groups with as much success as BTS and that just isn't happening but the k-industry still largely refuses to see that. xCeleste is actually releasing a new and updated video on the Hardships of BTS (2021 edition) around the end of this month and I highly suggest looking out for it because she is going to be going in-depth into how the K-industry along with the western industry has and still is treating BTS (with receipts and all). BTS's success is that much more profound when you learn that so many people within the industry wanted to destroy them.

I honestly don’t get army that automatically crosses out AHL just because of a couple of difficult episodes or persons in it. I get that it may be difficult for you to watch but please don’t discourage others who have not seen it yet. I think the over all good still far outweighs the valuable life lessons that they got from it and all new army should get a chance see where they got some of those that they seem to have carried to this day. It’s a little shallow really if you miss on this gem just because you are not able to get over the cringe. Maybe it comes with a bit of maturity to appreciate all this but i do hope they still react to it because the boys did work so hard on it after all.

you nailed everything ive wanted to say about the series. i remember watching it with my friend when we just became armys and we were really shocked in the beginning. but we chose to keep watching and it became one of our favorite programs simply because of the lessons they learned and the connections they made with their tutors. i especially love how the leasons weren't a one-way-street and Tony and Nate shared some of the things they learned by being around the boys like hard work, passion, and determination i can understand how it may not be everyones preference, but i definitely dont think it should be looked over

When it comes to AHL I don't mind telling people that it can be difficult or cringey in the first few episodes but I also encourage anyone to watch it because I think it is one of the most important things that happened to the boys early in their career that helped to shape them. There are so many iconic moments in the show like V and Iris - I truly believe that Iris giving V the encouragement that she did really helped him to fully develop his vocal skills beyond what even he might have thought they could be. There are too many things to list but that is just one of them.

- Coolio - Gangster's Paradise - SOOOOOOO many Tony and Jimin memes - you'll see xD - Tony is the one who gave Jimin his nickname, Chim Chim, because he had difficulty with his name - but Tony loves ALL the boys (though he has a special place in his heart for Jimin) - JK was sent to LA by the company during his trainee period for a little while on his own for some intensive dance training, so he was the only one that had ever been to the US prior to AHL - he'd been bragging about his experiences and telling stories, so they were all very excited to go and experience it for themselves - Yoongi did do some b-boying early on - but then that car accident that ruined his shoulder happened, and he was no longer able to do it any more - Something - in the US, we tend to label our interpersonal relationships with others as either dating or friends - in Korea, there is a step in between, which is labelled as "some" or "something" - it is that weird grey area where you're more than friends, but not quite dating, where you exchange flirtations and smiles, but haven't fully taken that step into full courtship just yet and made it official

I teared up so many times in this episode, and then again watching it with you through your reaction. Having watched the whole AHL series, I think she did a really great job of condensing episodes into some of the most poignant clips. Their time with Iris is one of my favorite parts, and if you watch the whole series you are rewarded at the end with the concert they self -promoted and showcase the things they learned from their vocal, dance, beat box, and hip hop culture coaches. I feel like this series gets hate from Armys that don't understand how important what BTS learned from these coaches was to the foundation of who they are as a group. How important it is to show that they are not, and have never been perfect, but they are successful because they weren't afraid to fail at new things and kept their determination to succeed by working really hard and practicing to overcome things that they had not become strong at yet. We miss this so much in our culture where perfection is glorified, but no one sees the hard work and mistakes that were made to get to that point. We can't ignore that it was the giving hearts and souls of these black Americans that were willing to teach 7 Koreans about their culture to help them succeed, that is the ultimate in unselfishness and mentorship. Also in the beginning when you saw one of the members b-boying/breakdancing and you asked "who was that?!" It was Yoongi!!

Honestly when I noticed the big shift in his personality was after his grandma died and the close friends of his....he sadly just had a lot of deaths in his life of people he cared about. After that I REALLY noticed a change in him he always seemed pissed and angry with a stern blank face. I think the best example is in the halloween gogo dance practice. Though I would say in the past year I can see his older silly side coming back, I think he is finally healing

I have nothing but good, happy, and positive memories of AHL. I was a new fan but I was there while the episodes were airing and shit was hard and tough for them but they NEEDED that, BTS wouldnt make the music they do today without the struggles they went through. They dont call it "hustle life" for nothing, they gotta hustle and they reaped the rewards. And the people that said they treated they poorly, the only guy who really treated them bad was that one dude but Big hit got rid of him fast. I think a reason BTS resonates so much with the west and just international fans in general compared to other groups because they had this training and close connection in the states.

And yeah its wild being an old fan and see V going form an open, social butterfly, bubbly person to super quite and reserved. Like there was a running joke of him making friends with everyone at award shows and even became friends with someone while using the bathroom. I think sadly all the deaths and misfortune that happened to him kinda made him really somber :(

I have a suggestion. Sooo, ep 6 will spoil Danger and Tomorrow a lot and since ep 8 is coming this week, maybe it would be good to skip next weeks ep and instead combine Thursday and Wednesday as the behind and live content. That way you will get to the next album sooner and also let some time pass for new content from Aneesa to come out. Also i know that u watched Burn the Stage docu-series ep1, i feel like after TheRiseOfBangtan that is the best way to get to know the boys, i feel like that era made the rookie BTS into the current one, so highly highly recommend that you continue it some time soon. Also queen Iris, i love that woman to this day, she really helped V and JK appreciate their voices and give them that vocal confidence boost.😊💙

Caitlin...girl. I love this series and I love it even more after re-watching each episode with you. It makes me feel like I'm watching with a friend. You're amazing and I'm so glad you started reacting to BTS. I love your perspectives on things and I love your real talk moments when you share what you've learned from BTS thus far. It makes me reflect on the things they've reminded me of (you 'forget' a lot of things as you get older, and these sorts of reminders are invaluable) and the ways they inspire me. Thank you thank you!

41 minutes in and I had to stop and tell you how much I'm enjoying your commentary and how astute you are. 💜 I watched the entire American Hustle Life series (combination of FB and RU-vid). My take away is that much of the wisdom they've embraced in their lives and and some of the lyrics came from this experience. I'm happy you showed up in my "you might like this" page. I'm going to go back and watch some of your past reactions. #DopeOldPeople 👵

It's so cool to see how you too take up so many lessons from BTS and apply it to your own life. BTS inspired me to never think I can't do something. They work so hard and I couldn't help but get inspired by them to push myself every day to make the best out of every day. I'm in second year of university right now heading towards the last semester. With COVID it's been so hard to stay motivated and focused on school but BTS taught me that I should never give up. And I haven't!

PLEASE PLEASE react to the entire American Hustle Life. too many armys write it off as bad or cringey. but it was a VERY needed experience for bts careers. there was some stuff that the show shouldve removed and some stuff that was played up for the camera since it was a show. but a lot of it was important and you can tell the guys to this day took a lot of it to heart what they learned.

American Hustle Life was a experience for them, they had some hard times, they feel sometimes scared, or insecure (and I was sometimes angry or sad at watching, so it's not the easiest reality show to see when your an ARMY) , but also, they learn a lot. Not only about true hip hop, recording, making video clip, but about true feelings in music, about life, about giving back. And of course, they do their first concert ! It was amazing !

,jhope already knew some beat boxing, that's why you see in previous episodes doing it ( this docuseries videos and in chronological order) and that's why jhope got higher level teaching than jin that didn't know anything. Jk also knows something. So in other words , jhope improved and jin learned some from 0.

Are you going to watch/react to American Hustle Life? That would be amazing! It's super entertaining, endearing, touching and was a formative and special experience for them I believe.
