If you played CONTRA, Touhou or any bullet hell games, you'll get used to dodging projectiles, also, there's the thrill of having only few lives and dodging hundreds of projectiles which makes it so fun to play.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the highly regarded "Great Yoshi Migration". The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Herpetology most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Yoshi’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike the exceptional "Great Yoshi Migration" truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Yoshi’s existential catchphrase “Yoshi~!,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dunkey’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
Cadence is the word. It covers tone, rhythm, modulation, and inflection of how we speak. Just in case you were still wondering, but I'm sure you figured it out by now.
I love how his 13 year old self just sounds like a younger him. No difference in tone or attitude. It just sounds like something Videogamedunkey would do XD
I've showed my mom this video to show why video games are worth playing, keep in mind the last game she played was Pac Man on the arcade cabinet. She loved how you showed your crude beginnings as an animator while building up to perseverance in boss battles. It's also worth noting how your script is so purposeful and carefully crafted but your relaxed delivery makes it more friendly and accessible. This video is a mastapeece.
"I am not the best guy at videogames" said the guy who holds the world record on yoshi's big bean burrito. Being overly humble can be just as insulting as being overconfident
Not really in an interview the developer said when he was a child it was rare of people completing a game while the modern games can be completed by anyone, so he wanted the new generation to experience that.
wow. this script was brilliant. I love how you tied in your newgrounds animations into the animation style of cuphead. such a great way to portray the hard work animators go through in order to make these types of games!
One of the best ways to show that your a bad-ass is the willingness to look back on yourself and admit that you sucked at one point earlier in your life.
This is the first time I've seen someone review the game and give the audience encouragement that they can beat Cuphead if they don't give up. It's refreshing to hear something positive like that.
@@92brunod That's the thing man. Not everybody who works hard succeeds. But everybody that succeeded worked hard. That's why you gotta keep at it, because if u just give up, it can only end one way. If you never surrender, you can still fail, but it isn' the only possible outcome anymore.
Dunkey, 10 years ago you were doing something productive like learning to animate and voice act. 10 years ago, I was reading really shitty Harry Potter Fan Fiction on Wattpad. Soo. Yeah.
10 years ago, I realized I didn’t actually have any artistic or creative skills, so I stopped drawing my own comics, lost all of the comics I made and never drew again. I miss it sometimes, but I doubt I’d make anything good if I tried it again. At least I never embarrassed myself by putting that shit on the internet.
Real talk Dunkey, thanks for showing us your old vids. It really shows how far you've come as a creator and gives hope to the rest of us. Keep up the good work Dunko
It also shows that just because you cant be what you wanted to be originally, the skills you get can still help you get into something else you can enjoy. Dunks may not be animating but I bet it helped build his editing he uses now.
I’m actually proud of you for uploading all your old stuff. Even if it’s just for posterity. I wish I had old content, even if it was cringy. Just to have the memories is worth it.
Dunkey can convince me to give any game a try especially when he reveiws them like this. What an amazing reveiw man. I have re-watching lot of your reveiws and they just make me love you and these games even more. So thanks for that.
Jibakoma 0 Most of the Animators are doing 3D because it's easy and they are practising with photoshops and illustrations for simple jobs like helping companies with logo's, cover pages etc. In the other hand 2D is difficult cause it doesn't have helpfull tools at all. In fact many people have given up and that's one of the reasons Cartoon movies nowdays are always 3D. Good luck with that
It's always a joy to see content creators be able to look back at all the passionate, but painful experience they've had, transcend them, and use them as catalysts to appreciate new forms of art. Legit.
I'm pretty certain I saw The Great Yoshi Migration back when I was obsessed to see anything similar to Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom and getting into my first love of Flash overall. That makes me feel fuzzy inside, thanks for being an influence in my life far before I'd ever recognize you, Dunkey. RIP Randy Solem.
Dunkey, I just watched your interview on h3 and I want to ask you to please not delete your old videos. Watching from start to present and seeing your personal journey is part of what I love about your channel. I get the raw, honest, genuine dunkey that I know and can connect with beyond your content. As an artist, I know what it's like to look back and think something sucks balls, but allowing me to see your process from start to end is amazing for me as a viewer. Also, I get your intentions with your videos and I love them. I think your style of highly intelligent/subtle comedy dressed in over the top profanity is hilarious. You're my favorite youtube channel by far. Hope you read this.
I too enjoy knowing as much as possible about what we call and perceive to be 'reality'. Being born and painting similar to DaVinci and Michelangelo is possibly unrealistic. Seeing people put-in time, effort; fail. Come back, try again, refine their technique; fail. Persevere, struggle; maybe accomplish something closer to the intended aim, ad infinitum. Thank you, Dunkey being as real as you can pubicly.
Not to mention so many of the old vids are wonderful classics to many fans who may not be there if it weren’t for them. Videos that we still love going back to and quoting to this day. It’s a part of all of us!
…… so weirdly enough I remember your OG vids from new grounds (specifically the Yoshi ones) thinking wow this is…. Bad. But knowing now that it was a young Dunkey I have a new appreciation for those videos.
I think the real reason we all keep coming back to these dunkey videos isn’t for his sarcasm, or his wacky sense of humor. Every now and then Dunkey puts something out there that is profound and relevant to the way everyone should live. Axioms aren’t often fun to listen to, as we reflexively think/say “I know.” Here Dunkey conflates the persistence it takes to beat a game like Cuphead with his persistence in building his skills and his channel, and he does it in a beautiful way. Keep it up. You can do it. Never stop yourself. More Dunkhearted.
Everyone expected you to make a video on cuphead. That seemed obvious. But, the way you handled it was brilliant. You could have done a regular playthrough, with all the bullshit parts, or you could have done a standard review. Rather, you subverted our expectations and delivered to us not only a review on the game, but insightful commentary on the development, that ties into your own life. I'll have to give this video a 9/10. Really makes you feel like batman. PS: Wait and see how many people go over to your new grounds profile and like those old videos.
When Dunkey speaks good words about your game, you know right then that you have made it. Cuphead is a mastapiece, not because Dunkey said so either. It clearly was a mastapiece because of the incredible work the team out into the game, Dinko recognized that immediately. The way he illustrates his talking points is artistic. Truly one of the greatest RU-vids of our generation. Thank you Danky.
Piggybacking so I see if dunk replies to you guys. Yeah make sure you keep that little lady happy, go ahead and give her a happy birthday from us fans.
What this video taught me is that Dunkey invented an entire sense of humor when he was a young teenager and has just honed and improved it over the years.
I know that feel, I remembered them earlier this year by random chance and kinda mind blowing that "WAIT A MINUTE I REMEMBER THIS KID" and connecting it to Dunkey I have watched for years now... I gave him both blams and saves, as those quality submissions gave me laughs at times so iirc I kinda gave up and started liking them lol.
meatwadsprite, do you remember the old flash movie site txmafia? do you remember rating my favorite cartoon final fantasy a+ a 1, knocking it off the top ten list? i haven't forgotten. i'm coming for you
its part of being a kid. of course these kids aren't going to see how stupid their musicallys are, just like how dunkey didnt see how dumb his newgrounds animations were
