It's easier just to remember toffee is a one to one ratio of butter to sugar. So 2 cups sugar , 2 cups butter, then 6 tbsp water and 2 tsp vanilla. This will make a 13x9 pan of candy. Also it is easier to mix your toasted nuts into the caramel just before pouring onto your pan, then sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the candy and let it sit for 5 min then spread chocolate with an offset spatula. Putting the chocolate on the bottom is messy and doesn't spread evenly. Hope this helps.
The toffee recipe I use calls for 2 cups of sugar to 1 pound of butter. I mix the nuts into the candy before pouring out. It makes the toffee a bit more tender to chew and it toasts the nuts too.
I think it would be delicious to add a very thin sprinkle of Kosher salt on top for a salted caramel taste. I honestly can't wait to try this for our family Christmas get together. We always just do finger foods and appetizers. This will be a perfect addition to the desert table.
My granny’s recipe was soooo easy-a cup of butter, a cup of sugar, stir it constantly over a medium high heat just until it started to smoke, then pour it in your buttered pan. Her instruction was that it should take under five minutes from start to finish! Lol
😂😂😂😂😂 IM WITH CHRIS...PACK IT UP AND GET IT OUT OF THE HOUSE ASAP OR IT WILL CALL TO ME UNTIL ITS GONE...BUT YOU MADE IT LOOK EASY TO MAKE SO I WILL BE TRYING TO MAKE IT THANKS TAMMY 😉😁😁
Hi. I love your channel. Can’t wait to make this toffee recipe. I was wondering if you happen to have a recipe for peanut brittle? That’s my favorite! Thank you for sharing!
Delicious recipe. Thank you for demonstrating it to us....yummy. May I say you have a beautiful kitchen .. wow. And you look especially pretty today. Love 💕 from Debbie and Dexter-Dog my sweet tiny rescued Chihuahua companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California.
I love your channel! I make this every year for the holidays. My mom loved Heath and Skor bars and this is so similar. I always put the toppings on the top. The chocolate melts immediately and it's easy to spread, then I sprinkle on the nuts. I'm going to try it your way next time. I like that you had chocolate in the middle.
I bet the pecan side is so good! I love pecans in desserts. In fact my favorite dessert is chocolate pecan pie. I sitting here trying to remember if I have enough butter in the fridge too lol. It's just as well if I don't, I know I don't have any pecans. Looks like I might be making a trip to the store tomorrow.
Funny I have made this many times and I never added the chocolate in with the nuts . I always added the choc chips to the top of toffee and it melts on the top of toffee and I spread it and then add chopped almonds on the top . This looks a little easier and maybe better . I’ll try it . Also , she ain’t kidding when she says go fast from the stove to pouring it in the pan . Never take your eye off that toffee on the stove top ….or will burn and separate in a split second .
Your making that and I am saying to myself that is no where near enough toffee to cover all that, someone could just try a half sheet pan and follow your directions from the cookbook, if they want to make a small batch. That stuff is so addictive.
Ahhh! What a great lil hack of straining the chopped nuts where you are getting more of the bigger pieces of the nuts in the toffee. That is such a clever tip! Why didn’t I think of that?!🤦♀️ Thanks so much for the tip and your toffee looks delicious!😋😍❤️
My momma made it for years around Christmas and sold it. People could not get enough of it. I've made it several times. Cinnamon is my favorite flavor.
this looks great but it is upside down from how I have always made it. lol I spread it in my pan then top with the nuts and chocolate. The chocolate gets melty and soft enough to spread. I will have to try it this way
This is a for sure on my candy making list for this year. I have to make candy for two different get-togethers spaced a week apart. This is perfect for both. Thanks so much for posting.
For people who do not have that the thermometer the thermometer of some sort instead of you saying where it heats up to a soft crack why are you not telling us the temperature on the thermometer not once have you told us the temperature that is supposed to reach I'd rather not use a thermometer and just wait till it turns brown
This looks so good! I jave a granddaughter who is allergic to tree nuts and gluten. I may try with gluten-free pretzel pieces - of course, using your genius strainer idea
I haven't watched you in a while and you look so so good and beautiful God bless you and your health. Merry Christmas thank you for the recipe. I been wanting to make it

I got a bag of trail mix recently and discovered toffee peanuts inside. I've picked them all out and can't find just toffee peanuts in stores around here. So could I use this recipe to make them? Would I just pour the toffee on top of the peanuts and break them up?
❤ I remember watching you make your green beans and ive made them your way ever since. Love that pot! I’m going to make this candy this weekend and look up the peanut brittle ( glad the viewer asked 😺) I’m going to look for it as it’s my husbands favorite. Thank you Tammy and Chris! 🕊️🫶🏻🕊️
My best friend and i had fun this evening making your toffee, to put in some tins, and following along to your video. We atarted off with a double batch as i had a good amount of walnuts and chocolate chips thinking that would have been perect. I didnt realize how much the toffee settles down into the gaps and prevents you from spreading it around very much. I ended up having to make a single batch to top it off. Also retried your fudge recipe again adding chocolate chips in at the end instead of mixing cocoa into the sugar and that worked so well.
This is just why I can't follow your recipes even if I do buy the cookbook, cause the ingredients that's posted in the cookbook is what I would go buy and I might not have enough of the ingredients to go back to adjust it.
It is not just you, but it makes me curious why people show recipes on RU-vid they have never made. If it had been made before you would of known it didn’t make enough of the toffee part.
Well this is an old family recipe and maybe the pan size was wrong on it. My granny wrote on one of her recipes for a pie it needed several cups of sugar. It was a typo.
I love toffee. I used to make it all the time so I could recreate Dairy Queen Blizzards. Time to make it again. Don’t know why you don’t mix the nuts in the candy and then pour in the pan? I’m going to top with a dab of chocolate chips while hot but firming up.
I have found using the cheapest margin works best. We like adding the nuts into the mixture before spreading it into a buttered pan and omitting the chocolate .❤❤
