If this bourbon was less than $115 whats the max you would pay?
@alanpawlowski1202

I don't even want to pay $65 for the other whiskey row bottles. I'm looking for unique flavor profiles in my middle age. Since this didn't seem to overwhelm you at all I'd throw it into the bourbony bourbon cupboard and let it get lost to memory. I'm certain they don't garner the same views as bourbon does but can we get some more non-American coverage in 2024?

@@TheMashandDrum Right? Isn't it insane you can still get a 12 yr Scotch for ~$50?!?! Bourbon is no longer a value buy. Hasn't been for quite a while. I've always been the odd man out. I'll chase my Clermont Steep with a shot of baijiu and be jovial the entire time. 😛

Was really looking forward to adding this to the whiskey row lineup on my bar but the price at $115 will give me pause. With 1920 in our state stores for $60+/- Id like to see this one at $80.
@Scott-co4dq

At $115 - pass. Simply too many other whiskeys out there with quality just as good or better and often at a lower price tag. It seems like too many of the producers are getting into the "boutique" whiskey style and it's starting to get old.
@daven8905

It’s way way way too much. Russell’s 10 - $40, McKenna 10 - $65, Eagle Rare 10 Year - $40, etc etc. This pricing is just dumb.
@eviltrain24

Same here. I really want to hear more whiskey tubers pushing back on these prices instead of agreeing that it's in line. $115 for a 10 to 12 year age statement is a hard no for me with scotch and an even harder no for me in bourbon.

I love OF products, so it's interesting to hear your comments about acetone. I feel similarly about everything Makers Mark, they all have a gasoline note I can't stand, even the vaulted Cellar Aged. I do agree about the new 1920 not being as good as the original bottles, which used to be my favorite. I prefer the 1910 now out of the current line up. I noted before that your taste preferences are the most like my own of any of the whiskey reviewers I know of. You are spot on with the acetone comment on the 1924. It is (INO) the weakest of the OF Whiskey Row series. Thinking it is more like a $40-50 bottle. Surprisingly short finish as well. I would stay with 1910 & 1920, or actually a 50-50 mix of 1910 and 1920, which, to me, resembles Birthday Bourbon. Give that a try.

Seems I've reached that maturity point in my bourbon journey that $115 is just a no go. At one time, I had a cap of $70 which I elevated to $100 for what I determined would be a special bottle. I'm decided I'm going back to $70. Too many really good bottles to fall for the cunning marketing by the distillers.

I prefer the Copita style glass to the Glencairn. I like having a stem to grip onto. The Glencairn always feels awkward to hold, at least to me. I haven’t tried the 1924, but I’m a fan of the 1920. $115 seems a little steep to me. I would have liked to see it bottled at a slightly higher proof. But I’ll reserve my final judgement until I have the opportunity to try it
@user-hb9qv
@user-hb9qv 6 месяцев назад
Copita has no lip and is less tulip shaped near the top, as opposed to the Eisch here (a newer version it seems, with a more pronounced curvature I personally don't prefer to the old). I also prefer the Copita, but I wish they would make it a bit smaller, or squat. These days I drink out of a tray LOL, or short trifle dish, rather, and sometimes a tiny goblet.

The RR I can find with a little work but the ER is a unicorn around here. I think that even at the $115 I have to wonder if it is going to be that much better than RR or even Buillett 10Y which are both cheaper and easier to find so I don't even think I would get it at the $115. Jason, everything about your review is spot on except the final suggestion. This is a pass or a try before you buy. You don't need to concern yourself with hurting Old Forester. They hurt themselves by pricing it where they did. Like you said about Knob Creek 12 at 100 Proof and at almost half the price. A little more candor for your viewers would be appreciated...

The biggest thing I got out of this is that I didn't know that they messed up the 1920. I absolutely loved the "chocolate / cherry" dark-tasting original release and bought 3. I am heartbroken to learn they have changed it. I don't know of any other bourbon with that kind of flavor profile. Is there anything else that is along those lines?

I get a similar chocolate/cherry from OF 1910 that I got about 9 months ago. More cherry vanilla than chocolate but the chocolate is there to some degree as well

I can confirm it doesn't taste the same as it did, say, 5 years ago. Used to be a big fan and now can't stand the stuff, or Old Forester in general. I don't know why or what changed, but imo they're putting out mediocre or bad whiskey.

I enjoy Larceny and Elijah Craig BFs for similar flavor profiles.

How would you say the OF 1924 compares to the OF SiB 100 proof (black label) bottles you've had?
@TheMashandDrum
@TheMashandDrum 6 месяцев назад
They compare more to the 100 proof single barrels rather than the barrel proof ones. The barrel proof single barrels can be 130+ proof. However this definitely has layered flavors compared to the regular 100 proof picks that are only 4-5 years old

My WalMart has a ton off old label 1920 . I might stick with that for now. BTW, is Tyrone M on your list of good Turkey rickhouses? I thought you mentioned that. I might be wrong.

M is a great warehouse. Usually spicy

The $115 price point seems to be hitting a nerve with the public. I think what we may be seeing is association bias where we associate the 1924 with the other bottles in the whiskey row series and the price sticks out like a sore thumb. I think Brown Foreman missed an opportunity with marketing this one. Similar to what Maker's Mark did when they introduced their age stated Cellar Aged with a unique bottle and label, had Brown Foreman followed suit and packaged the 1924 bourbon that contains the King of Kentucky mashbill and is age stated ,in a different bottle with a different label or dare I say a fancy tube and called it Prince of Kentucky ...would we still think the price was outrageous?

Total pass at $115. ER readily available in Chicago for under $40 and RR 10 sits everywhere for $35. That price tag is laughable.

My thoughts exactly. The market could definitely use more competitors for those two 10 years at their prices. Old Forester clearly had no interest in that, or in going after repeat buyers.

Completely agree, and not to mention Henry McKenna 10 yr for $60. I typically buy those whenever I find them, but nearly double for the OF is a tough sell.
