I like the name of Joan for her. It stands for " Joan of Ark" A true worrier. She has been through so much but still fights on to live. She seems to be adapting well to her condition. And though she will never have a normal hoof again. She still has quality of life!!! God bless all of you who are caring for her. God bless you our strong worrier!!!!!
"WOJTEK......means "Happy Warrior".....her body is now happy that it has good pasture for sustenance, she is a warrior for having endured such neglect and pain at the hands of humans. Ignorance is shameful.....
Idk...but to me it still looks infected.... especially inside her hoof....its pretty deep inside of it.....plus shes putting all het weight on the backside of it and thats not good at all....i know they cant shoe her.. But if they put a temporary shoe and wrap her hoof and back leg up like a cast it would straighten up her leg a little and cushion her hoof and relieve her pain ..
When the horse has that much sole missing they simply can't bear weight on the hoof as the entire hoof structure is not able to support the weight of the animal any longer. In cases like these to make an attempt at recovery a horse is normally put in a medical stall (everything is very easy to clean and sanitize everyday). A vet works with a farrier so not only is the infection not ongoing, but pain is managed and things do not swell to where cellulitis (the infection moving to under the skin to spread and the swelling we see) becomes an issue, but rads (x-rays) are taken and the vet makes a plan with the farrier. There are many products on the market to kind of "replace" or "rebuild" hoof like we have fake nails for people and sometimes these can be used to create a structure that is enough to replace the loss of some area and it is regularly done. I don't know how long wound has been going on for as that hole in the sole is extremely wide and the depth is very concerning as it is into the hoof structure and would be close to if not touching bone from the depth it appeared as and any infection not taken care of immediately could spread to the small bones in the hoof and the horse would lose all chance and need to be euthanized.
IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME QUESTION THAT PEOPLE ASK: "How is it possible that someone is so negligent, not having a HEART for an Animal that is in need?". This question has always been asked, but no one can answer. Humans full of IGNORANCE !
