@@Iffem I know, but telling that to Shion as well kind of meant he did try betraying him before. It was just a poor choice of words and deeds by Magaki overall, though.
funny thing is Shion survived this.. and its speculated that she may return in the future, but as an ally or as an enemy is unclear now. I do look forward to Shion's return, even as a DLC fighter
I'm already loving seeing Oswald getting the spotlight in that title and intro, he's just awesome. Also loved the introduction of Betty and some of my favorite teams: the unique Fatal Fury team, the -Shingo- Kyo & Iori Team and the Anti-Kyokugenryu Team.
@@kingdomcomesuperman3669 Nah, it wasn't for disrespect, it was more for SNK deciding to not name it as "Shingo Team" like in 98 (Even when they absolutely should have done that)
Oswald, Elisabeth, Momoko, Duck King, Gai, Jenet, Silber...so many amazing newcomers!! Too bad KOF XIII removed them 😢 The new Fatal Fury and Psycho Soldier Teams are my favorites!
The PS2 game also has tons of characters. There is essentially a whole entire bar the size of the main roster behind the main roster. But you have to unlock them.
The first KOF to truly shatter expectations. Completely new teams, a few omitted favourites, awesome newcomers, superb guest characters, and a truly fucking awful final boss. The last of a legendary generation.
Yeah, they truly did Shatter Expectations before they made it look cool I hope XV has a long lifespan there are so many teams to bring in either for story or foolproofing XVI.
Ikr? I hate how KOF XIII removed the new characters and teams of XI in favour of bringing back old characters/teams from the Orochi saga. I missed Duck King, Momoko, Adelheid, Gai, etc...
@@meganinten0078 oh heavens yes! I loved him in Real Bout Fatal Fury too! P-chan is the best duckling ever! Unfortunately though, ever since kof 97' he's practically ALWAYS being overshadowed by Blue Mary, (the one he lost the 97 special team vote to) and is always stuck in the background.
KOF XI was such a game changer. The controls felt a little like MVC with the chain combos and I loved how they shook up the flagship teams especially Team Fatal Fury. Terry finally teaming with Kim and Duck King was so fucking dope!
@@elvangulley3210goes both ways, where do you think capcom got Supers, taunting, 3 on 3 team and secret bosses from? Also some of the people who made SF1 went SNK can’t really copy what you helped create.
Oswald is THE best card king there ever was. His gameplay, his style, sense of fashion and his cool shades are SICK !!!! I LOVE Oswald so much lmao 💕 🃏
One of my favorite KOF/fg in general: Dope Soundtrack The amazing sub bosses cameos/alternative looks from Buriki One and Kizuna Encounter Garou Oswald Stages Art direction Only thing lacking is a secret boss Mr Karate.
Great game man, another one of my favorites in the series. I spent hours unlocking everyone with my brother on the PS2 version. KOF XI needs to be re-released on current consoles with rollback. It definitely deserves it.
@@kyokugenryudisciple9349 Yea they had one collection but it was way back on the PS2 and it was just the Orochi Saga. I’d absolutely LOVE a collection of everything from KOF ‘94 up until Xlll with rollback. But that probably won’t ever happen sadly.
I read once that Oswald was originally going to appear in XII teaming up with Iori and a newcomer before the development of that game started to get complicated. By the time XIII was being developed they essentially replaced him with Vice and Mature coming back, for reasons.
Kinds hilarious to see the contrast of Max's view now compared to when he was first introduced to Oswald in kof14. He has seen the light. His eyes are no longer blinded by hate.
Tbh Max in general has gone back on warmed up on a lot of games that has suprised me. I'm still amazed he went back to Alien Isolation and ended up loving it.
I find it funny, cause I went to look at OSwald in XIV after this and he looks really good, I'd say one of the best 2D to 3D transitions in XIV. Really wish we got him in XV, he would look really really good.
Magaki: You ever wonder what it would be like to play a shmup boss in a fighting game? Everyone who isn't a masochist: No, can't say that I have- Magaki: *WOULD YOU LIKE TO!?*
Yep it has the best combat imo and it has the second best looks of all. I like KOF 12 graphics more but this definitely is the best one that still has the Sprite look.
I LOVE this game, I really hope one day SNK will re-release this with a proper netcode so that everybody can enjoy tag KOF in its infinite glory, the great thing about XI is that it started the trend of giving KOF games proper tutorial missions that actually help you learn the ropes, going through the challenges really helped me out personally.
I feel bad for fans of dope-ass characters like Lin, Shen Woo, Oswald, Foxy, and Adelheid that get the shaft because they came from the era where people had lost interest in fighting games in general, and thus aren't as popular as series mainstays that really aren't all that cool (looking at you, Chang and Choi).
Yeah baby 11!!!!! Love this one and was my official introduction to the series. Love the music, the roster, the amount of extra characters to unlock, the fact that tagging is more expanded.........god is this game awesome. Only things that are a little bit off about this one is the fact that some of the challenges were a little bit too difficult at times especially for certain ones where you have to unlock certain characters and fuck Magaki. Other then that, thank god I found a second copy after my original one was scratched to high hell. Easily one of my favorites.
Oswald is obviously inspired by Hellsing, he constantly turns dark with only his glasses glowing and his tall and skinny frame is a trait of various Hellsing characters, he is a mixture of main character Alucard with the red glasses and calm laugh, Walter C. Dornez old and elegant appearance and Tubalcain Alhambra who fights using poker cards
I love the color edit option… but was also disappointed that it didn't really change attack effects; i.e., I changed Ash's flames to be a _particular_ color but his opponents would still become engulfed in green flame. 😔
Love this game! The fact it's the only one not available with today's consoles is a crime! Oswald is cool! Arranged soundtrack SLAPS! Only mistake was putting one setting to arranged in the game settings. Backgrounds changed into 3D and emulation is scuffed rendering it. Put it back to Arcade/2D option to get them sweet pixels. We don't talk about Magaki...
Love this game, my favourite KoF that went away from the 3v3 format. Gameplaywise improved upon 2003 and one of the best in the series imo. Plus the odd yet fitting teams were fun to play like Kyo, Iori & Shingo or Terr, Kim & Duck King & all the crazy sub boss characters.
This game brings back memories I worked at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz in the arcade there was the two big screen arcade cabinets were Capcom vs SNK 2 and KOF XI 1st time going up against Magaki I was like wtf?! Working in the arcade saw so many people play saw one guy beat Magaki it was cool
Ah this takes me back, dad got this for my birthday when I was 9, this and street fighter alpha anthology were my first fighting games. Still love it 10 years later.
Magaki is really a pain. I remember cheesing him with running and dodging to get close for a grab. Its lame, its boring, but effective. Btw, Oswald is Awesome!
Got into KoF through older titles, but XI on PS2 was the first one I owned and dumped ungodly amounts of hours into. So there is definitely bias but with the way it feels, the character selection, unlockables, and multiple modes, XI is for sure my favorite KoF
Let me bring you up to speed on what you don't know Max. See the actual team who fought Shion and Magaki were Kyo, Shingo and Iori, after Magaki dies Iori gets overwhelmed by the riot of the blood and badly injures Kyo and Shingo however after he parts with Shen and Oswald Ash see them and takes the opportunity to steal Ioris sacred treasure the Yasakani magatama. (I know I didn't say anything previously with kof 2003 but Ash did the same thing when he stole Chizuru's mirror treasure) After he made off with it Ash ran into his childhood friend Betty (Elizabeth Blantorche) who was with Duo Lon and Benimaru at the time as Betty wanted to know why Ash was doing all this. Ash didn't say anything and ran off. Hope this fills in some plot gaps.
@@jessepeterson6694 everything I see says that team elizabeth is the official winners, but also says the canonical ending is what you said. (Which contradict each other) So idk. Lol. Well, regardless, it wasn't Ash's team.
Kof XI is one of my favs in the entire series the soundtrack i this game is soo good the team combimations were really great and the tag gameplay was really smooth and had a lot of player expression in terms of combos as you can do some crazy shit here and there the throwback to SNK games such as Kizuna Encounter, Garou and Buriki One was a nice touch and Oswald is just dope af Elisabeth was kinda nice too.
The combos on this game are the craziest in the series, even the hard shit you can do in 13 or 2002 is not as crazy as the shit you can do in this game.
KOF XI kensou is my favorite version, it’s because he had the dragon soul storyline which was sick. It’s a shame that SNK won’t elaborate more on it bringing it back some how.
@@mappybc6097 the team would consist of kensou, bao, and chin. I hope they bring them back. Age up bao a bit, to show the passage of time. Bring bao coming into his own half of the dragon soul.
Kof was always meant for the hardcore crowd. But they have eased up a lot since 13 , 14 and 15. And YES 13 is EASY compared to old shit like kyos's max cancel in 2002 um. The timing is a nightmare to learn
Nothing beats 94 in terms of execution. Trying to do a ⬅️➡️↘️⬇️↙️⬅️↖️ + BC motion for Athena's shining crystal beat or even the simpler hold ⬅️ for one second, ⬇️↘️➡️⬆️ +BC for Heidern's final bringer was next to impossible in a game with almost zero input leniency.
@@mappybc6097 but those brave souls who learned felt super fucking satisfying and overall improved skills when they tried other footsie based games like SF. Any KOF player could make SF V their bitch
OK, here's some back story & trivias; 1) While SNK was back on its feet as SNK Playmore, the situation was still bad. they were stuck with the MVS machine which was used over a decade and their games like SvC chaos and KoF 03 had bad reviews and didn't made profit. SNK was searching for a replacement for the MVS and they chose the Sega Atomiswave - a downgrade version of the Sega Naomi. This was a bad move and SNK games on Atomiswave were notoriously criticized for the HORRIBLE loading time. after 4~5 titles, SNK settled with Taito Type X board for future arcade games. 2) With KoF 03 being known as the "Worst KoF of the numbering series", SNK finally admitted that releasing games annually is flawed strategy and chose to take more time on development. since than KoF is titled by its numbers than the year of its release. 3) To see the actual ending of KoF XI, you need to clear it multiple times. for at least, you need to clear Ash-Oswald-Shen first, than Kyo-Iori-Shingo, Elizabeth-Benimaru-Duolon last. 4) The tag team system of the Ash saga - while it seems Max likes it, most users opinions were negative. That's why the PS port of XI had the usual 3vs3 mode and it was ditched at XII.
When I did my run of this game I though Ash was saying 'Tighten that ass' when he did his fireball super. Also fuck this boss this shit took me 6 hours
"You've been using KOF for your own evil plans!" ...Guys, this has happened at _literally every KOF._ You'd think they'd pick up on it by now. For that matter, how do they keep getting insurance on these tournament venues?
I spent so much time playing this with friends back in highschool. This was the first KOF I really played (besides Maximum Impact) and it's still my favorite. I really would love for SNK to bring back the tag system in the future, even if it's just a seperate mode.
Oswald/Duo Lon/Shen for DLC pls. Also despite the high number of waifus and pretty boys I always liked the straight up badass dudes in KOF games more and want to see them come back in full force. Geese, Yamazaki, Oswald, Krauser, Rugal, Goenitz, Heidern, etc. Only exception to this is Iori but for most others like Benimaru or Ash? Fuck that.
Never played this one unfortunatly and probably never will(unless there comes a remaster or something) this game came out when i was born i hear it is an underrated KOF but it is hard to play something you didn't knew existed. But it does look fun
