.
. See all the equipment we put on the airplane, and inquire about your own project! newviewtech.com/aoa/ The instrument panel update on our 1963 172 is finally underway. We're getting all new avionics and modernizing this flight school airplane. Planning has been in the works for months, and now it's time to put it all together. It'll be a modern and capable aircraft, able to do the latest and greatest in aviation technology.
We start with the panel itself, which was painstakingly designed with CAD. Then, it was sent off to Nimbus in Florida. There it would be created with CNC, power coated, and painted. It turned out really great, and will house all of our IFR instruments, avionics, and a new modern layout.
NewView also did a lot of work on the aircraft paint, restoring much of its glossiness, and giving it some extra shine. It looks really nice.
We got our Cessna 172 yokes redone and recovered by Aviation X Aircraft Interiors in Conroe, Texas. They look absolutely fantastic and really set the stage for a nice panel.
The crew at NewView went through the airplane as mechanics and noticed some things wrong with the carburetor. We sent it off to be overhauled, and also got a carburetor temp readout installed. With the new GI275 EIS from Garmin, we'd get all new wiring and engine indications, including fuel. Loren takes us through the carburetor and teaches us how it works.
A project like this is really complex, but comes together really well. This is only the first video, and we'll have more updates of the Cessna 172 Instrument Panel coming soon. We're excited to show you the final product!
Want to be a pilot? Take online ground school and do checkride prep with us at www.AngleofAttack.com

I went on a Flight Experience in August for my 50th, bought for me by my better half. Since that flight, I have really wanted to do more and go for my PPL, but obviously until I have the money have just been having a go here and there on my flight sim 😀 Watching these videos is really making me want to do this even more to the point I am wondering what I can cut back on to try to save up! I love your videos and I wish I lived in Alaska as I would be enquiring on your services! Watching this series moving to the new dials is fascinating and strange at the same time, as I have just started specifically using planes in the flight sim that are old school to try to help me with the basics. I can do a flight, but not consistently and it always comes down to not fully understanding angle of attack and getting set up for level flying and then controlling with speed and trim etc. It always goes pear shaped from there and I end up all over the place with my yoke/joystick LOL I am starting to pick things up just from these videos and practising, but hopefully one day (before its too late!) I might own my own Cessna 172 or equivalent and have my PPL. The scenery here between Liverpool and Manchester in the UK though is nowhere near the beautiful scenery in Alaska. Unfortunately I don't think my future Cessna 172 will make it across the pond 😀 One thing that is amazing is watching all of these new instruments go together and realising just how clever they are! It also makes me appreciate more things like the systems in the modern airbus and the technology in AutoPilot and Fly By Wire

Love the matt black panel and the contrast with the white letters but the contrast with the orange "ANGLE OF ATTACK" is even better. I've seen the final product (all the way from Australia) and it looks fantastic. Love the colours on the Garmin GI275 Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI). It is amazing as I only expect a white needle on a black background in such a small instrument compare to a glass cockpit. Great job everyone involved.

It's a thing of beauty, eh! Oh, no doubt eh! Reminds me of how excited my son and I were when we did our panel back in 2020 on our 77 Grumman Tiger. Traded plastic for a nice aluminum, custom panel... replaced our stock A/I and old HSI with two G5's, added a USB power port, removed our vacuum pump, removed old wiring, cleaned things up, etc. Spent a chunk of change, but it was well worth it. I just replaced one of my mags with a SureFly as well. Now I just have to add an auto pilot and I'll be happy... or will I? Fly safe and fly often!

This reminds me my last annual. The engine was making metal badly enough that we needed to do something about it and the path of least resistance was a Lycoming factory rebuilt engine (the old engine was showing signs of age anyway). Bolting in the new engine was a small part of the work: it didn't account for all the extra things that come up when you take an old plane that far apart.

Panel looks great i really like the black spackle paint look. The yokes are a nice individual touch. The paint buffed up real nice, have you or will you do anything to add some paint to touch up the spots where it has clearly worn off? Paint looks mostly gone on struts, leading edges and maybe some horizontal surfaces? I'm not degrading your beautiful plane I'm just wondering if there is anything you could do to put some paint back on those spots.. or if maybe it's best to leave it alone? I bet that beautiful Panel and that Carb rebuild will really change the plane .

The flight school I rent from has aging airplanes (I know. Surprise!) The DG in any of them would precess within a couple of minutes and were totally unusable for IFR. They replaced the majority of them by adding dual G5s. I spent most of my time in G1000Nxi/GFC 700 airplanes up to my commercial so they were a really nice addition.

G,day Chris from Sydney Australia. Favourite part of the panel: altimeter- always is. I think that is because the terrain is very hard. No but seriously, love the yoke covers and stitch. The powder coating and lettering looks amazing. Well, it's not just a matter of wiring harness and plugs into the back of avionic components. Lastly, all the mechanical moving parts of the carberator with it's sealing butterfly valve and machine threaded screws, stills worry the s&#@ out of me! (Vibration). Great film, looking forward to seeing the engine run. 🌏🇦🇺

Chris, when you went under the front of your plane to discuss the carburetor, I noticed that your nose wheel strut appears to be disabled. It looks like you have hose clamps and maybe a rubber sleeve around what little strut shaft is exposed. I know you have an oversized front wheel and fork. So by having those installed you lose the oleo shock action on the nose?
