I always liked the old Top Gear. It provided what I wanted: a no-nonsense motoring review magazine show. It told me about new cars that I might see on the roads, motoring problems, advice and so on. The newer Clarkson/May/Hammond format was a television masterpiece; a fantastic bit of entertainment, very, very watchable; I'm not knocking it at all. However, it became less and less about just telling people stuff about cars and there wasn't a good show (IMO) that continued to fill that purpose.

They'd sometime have Tiff going around a track in a flash car, but that was a treat - the rest was stuff you could afford a few years later on the second hand market.

Chris Goffey and William Woollard were my favourite Top Gear presenters. Knew their stuff and were proper hands on with their reviews, with cars that were attainable. Never had time for Clarkson and the other two ponces

Interesting discussion about unleaded petrol. Here in Ireland we can only get E10 since last year, all us classics owners are worried about our fuel lines etc. I'm using an additive, no idea if it's protecting my car or if it's snake oil!

Who, in the right mind would pick anything, but the Saab out of the three executive cars shown? Lovely to see unleaded at £1.71 a gallon as well.😄

"Lovely to see unleaded at £1.71 a gallon as well." I can remember when it went above £1 per gallon for the first time. The fuel companies raised the price to just under £1 right before the budget so the chancellor would increase fuel duty and be the one responsible for pushing the price past the £1 mark. Then the fuel companies reduced their price, becoming the heroes for undoing what the chancellor had done. Unleaded is now quite a bit over £6 per gallon even at supermarket prices.

Interestingly the cost of the SAAB in 1989 of £29k is roughly £79k after inflation in 2024.

I have 50 episodes on an old hard drive from many years ago. The episodes range from 1989 to 1993. There are some beauties in there. I'm going to start uploading them all soon.
