Our 07’ Kenworth 900D 18 speed and has been very good to us. It’s a beast of a truck and has over 800k miles on it. We do almost all repairs including the tires and oil changes. The nice thing about this truck is my husband drove it since it was brand new and then his old employer sold it to us for only $25k Our other truck is a 2017 Kenworth 880 automatic. Our insurance is about $8500 per year on each truck.
Love the honesty. I had great credit in the 750’s, homeowner for 10 years and my first truck was 27% for a 45k truck but damn i wanted to own a truck lol. Now another truck purchase later i just bought a new Volvo 860 with zero down at 7.9%. My experiences totally matched up with y’all’s regarding repair costs and helped make the decision to go brand new
@@seansmith6788 why did you decide to go with the Volvo instead of a Cascadia? Back when I got my truck 3 years ago Freightliner had longer extended warranties than Volvo.
@@alex7289 honestly i wanted a Cascadia too but there were none available and Volvo happened to have 1 left in Houston . Volvo also has extended warranty’s up to 6 years/6000000 and you just have to pay for whatever amount of extra factory warranty you want after the 2 year/250k. Volvo seperates the warranties too, engine, aftertreatment, and chassis which is all the little stuff. And you have a year to purchase that extended warranty from the time you buy the truck
Hey we love your comment that’s so great to hear you made it to buy a new truck too! I’m glad you got a great interest! If you don’t mind sharing how much did you buy your brand new Volvo for?
Like the way you present numbers and real facts. I am not a semi truck hauler but I have just leased on with a company to pull RVs. Trying to get my feet wet. I watch you guys because of your up beat attitude. Keep up the great work !!
Did you buy it through your company as a LP? or you when to Freightliner and buy it ? what is your new interest rate? 30 percent on the old truck was a major rip off. what is your rater per mile average with your company? Nice video.
At where I work the only two options we got for trucks is : Cascadia evolution with Detroit Or International LT with isx cummins Personally I’m a hard cummins guy. I’ll admit cat my all time favorite but we haven’t had a cat in our fleet for years. I’ve ran cummins in the work trucks for at 10 years. What’s funny is most of the guys groan when they get a international LT with a cummins when their cascadia evolution getting worked on. I even get a international when my truck getting worked on because most of the guys snatch up the cascadias. My boss did say the cascadias are a little cheaper to work on but they won’t go 100 percent one brand because it keeps the two local dealers competing. Something else that’s funny. When we turn in a cascadia holy cow that thing is GONE. It would bearly make a good truck to move trailers around. However if we turn in international they make someone a good used truck. Once I saw one 4 year old and only had 100,000 total miles. It was mint.
Some of us work and maintain our own trucks which puts more money in our pockets.Having knowledge and understanding mechanics of your truck is important to be a O/O,some shops will try to take advantage on the fact your broke down and stuck and will pay anything just to get rolling again,if you don’t know what your looking at or what is going on under the hood. For example egr cooler 6k “OUCH” could have done that yourselves and saved 3500 bucks, just 2,500 for parts and about 2.5 hours of your time.
I’m sure you know everything too buttt while the shop fixed that for us we made a couple Gs in a free rental -what took them a few days to fix would’ve taken us a few weeks to figure out. Like I said for ‘Team drivers’ it’s not worth it. If you’re a solo which I can tell you are, you shouldn’t be commenting 🙃#swerve
the way I see it, I am glad u guys don't have any accident and alive and still together if I stay with another person for more than 1 hour in s cubic place, I ll be u know what ;) .so there is so much more to be thankful . . stay safe and keep on trucking
Which this might be why companies buy new trucks every so many years for company drivers, maintenance expense as the miles on the truck rack up but I'm no expert but a good guess on my part. Great information for those who own & operate a truck.
Really? I avg .05cpm for the past 3 yrs. it’s all about taking care of your truck. My 1st truck I got it with 350k now it has 800k super low maintenance. .06cpm now my 19 Cascadia is sitting at .03cpm. In my opinion it all on how you care and maintain it. Great video. I started with 1k in the bank and now it’s 50x better and acquired 3 credit cards
That’s so cool to hear! We took really good care of her but every truck can be different, also it’s because we drove it team really hard with a small engine low horse power, and because we only stopped at Freightliner dealerships expensive $$ but we made plenty regardless 😁
Good video!!!! Very informative!!! Really liked the breakdown on costs!!!! I’m looking to become an owner operator and this help out break things down a bit more!!! Thanks guys be safe and we will see you on the next one 😎✌️
Those interest rates on these financing deals is huge and eats a lot of your profit if possible if you own a home I would take a home equity loan against the house and buy the truck outright a home equity line of credit is usually about 1.99% for the 1st 2 or 3 years And then prime which is 3 a quarter % now. If you could hammer the payments and and paid off quickly and with the home equity loan you Have the money available to you as you pay it back In case you need to pay for repairs etc
The rates were terrible!! But being a first time buyer with no history we did what we had to, our second truck we had an investor makes life soo much easier 😊😊
I was like a girl lets hear this then she had detail to detailed information after that im like dammmm im watching the right video on information i wanted to know before i get into trucks! Thanks for this video very helpful!
I’m curious why you guys went with freightliner over something like Volvo or kenworth 🤔 not to say there’s anything wrong with freightliner but I’m curious why y’all choose to stick with them
We’re so used to driving Freightliner we didn’t feel like switching yet, the other thing is we liked their dinette the best. Kenworth was our 2nd option) they’re around the same price so we may get a kenworth next if we find a model we like.
@@natashatrucking true. I think freight liner has the best table situation considering in Volvo the cushions become the mattress. its not as comfortable to sleep on but at the same time both kenworth and Volvo have a much better ride 🤔 I guess you win some and lose some
You should get bonus points for IHG, the rooms are 70-80 dollars... you get stay points and can use them once you get points... also you can get points from holiday inn, candle wood, etc... just a thought...
That's great insight homies! Truly appreciated!!! I also appreciated the broken blue condom driving the truck in the beginning... You guys always make me laugh. Keep kicking butt.
Thank you so much for explaining and detailing out Trucking for owner operators it was a necessity for me my brother and I were talking about it wishing you a very happy New Year good luck with your new truck just wondering how is your carrier by that I mean do they help you with cost to the give you breaks for tires elect Hometime or is that up to you
I bought a 2015 Cascadia with 450,000 miles. It’s day1. I look forward to getting a new truck someday. Thank you for the information. Please share your profit and loss statement for all of us who think that my truck purchase makes me a instant millionaire :-) Drive safe
Congrats!!!🎊🎉 our first truck was a 2012 10 speed barebone cascadia with over 550K miles you gotta start somewhere 😊 we’re really happy for you best of luck on your journey!!! And yes for how much us owner ops make more than half goes out the door before we even get payed!!😱😱 it’s not a lottery ticket you have to work and plan to be successful in this business
Hello Natasha, how y'all doing?I watch your videos and y'all give out alot of good information. My question is, I have been trucking for at least one year, and am thinking about getting my own truck, my own authority. What are the steps that I need to know on how to buy a new truck. I love y'all truck, and freightliners are one of my favorite.
Hey harry! There’s many steps you can take. But Definitely get 2 years of company driving first, insurance won’t approve you if you are going on your own. That’s what happened to us, and then I can help you more when you’re close to 2 years ☺️
Never heard an older truck would run hot.. Keep your radiator clean .. My repowered truck from gas to Disel .. has too small of a radiator.. after 20,000 hours the radiator is so thin it won't cool very well anymore...
Don’t pick up cheap loads? My cost of operation I can afford to run cheap when freight starts falling off. No truck payment and bobtail insurance is 110$ for two trucks because there paid off. So what’s cheap for you might not be for the next guy. Good luck to you guys🤞
Freight is about to start falling off for everyone any day now...really it's already started. Same here, own my truck, i can't imagine being FORCED to work and having to make payments....to each his own
@@zvjerka2 thanks for the reply. But can you give a range of like how much owner gets. In situation 1 new vehicle good team drivers, good miles then how much owner gets. Situation 2 old vehicle good team drivers good miles then how much. Can you please give me the approximate income in both situations. Thanks in advance.
Spread sheet.....profit. Loss statements.....when I drove the early yrs. no phone.....Egad!! We all had a hand full of. Quarters...you have come a long way. Baby!! Great. Vlog. And vital. Info. For today's drivers!! Iam one of your old driver fans...you are so lmpressive, smart. And drop dead beautiful....your man. Is. Blessed...Love your show!!
We have mad respect for the old school drivers man!! How did they navigate through all the old low bridges back then 😆😅trucking is so much easier these days we’re all so blessed
@@natashatruckingCongratulations Natasha, Always keep a map closed to you and always verify the address and ask the reviving and read the review of the place you are planing to arrive. Also you can use your Google map satellite to look the shipping and receiving building. Please please don't trust on GPS 100%. Im driving for over 16 year in US. I was thinking on purshase my new CASCADIA X model when I see your video on youtube, was like a confirmation from God. Please if you have a tips for me I will appreciate. Thank you Im your crazy fan now I hope meet you guys one day on the road.
Older trucks or glider kit is way better New trucks won't last like a older one My Detroit12.7 has 1.6 million miles on it , original New trucks with dpf systems will never go that far that's my opinion
The one we listed was just bobtail for the trucks themselves, our cargo+ liability stayed the same we pay through our carrier, it’s only $800 per month tho 👍👍
I’ve talked to people until I’m blue in the face about how much cheaper my new trucks are than old ones, to no avail most times, unfortunately. They just look at me like I have the IQ of a potato. 🤣 Sadly I was a believer in old trucks for a long time, and then one day I thought to myself, “Perhaps there’s a reason I work so hard and make no money.” There was. It was old trucks.
We can so relate to this! Thankyou for insight on your experience the same thing happened to us it was a shock forsure!! But getting to the point of affording new trucks is the tricky part hehe. I’m glad it worked out for you too☺️
Really just depends on the used truck, I don’t see $2800 month is cheaper then a used paid off truck , my last 6 months I’ve had $0 in Payments or repairs, just oil changes
Great video! You’re right, each person is different and what fits their needs may be different for them. Btw were middle aged and drive a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia 🙌🏻🤣 whoop!! Keep trucking!
preferred the 2018. the 2021 steering wheel makes my hands hurt. the lane alert is obviously loud and goes off 30 time a day in error. 2021 drives like a drunken sailor. they tried to soften up the ride. totally out of control feeling instead. the side wings push all the salt and snow onto the side window now you have to drive with the windows open to see your six. they sealed it up so tight you gotta slam the door shut like it owes you money. I named the truck after an old girlfriend as it's a torture chamber.
Hey since you mentioned haters how bad is the road rage haters the last couple of months ? It pisses me off to get brake check for no reason or to get the bird shot at me for just driving down the highway.
@@natashatrucking Awesome Tasha, good luck in trucking in the states, been trucking on Maui the last 35 years, island girl make us local boys proud, love you girl!
Good advice on many things... you're right opinions are like a-holes..., wasnt aware of the issues concerning temps, seems like you'd be the one to start up a truck driver dating site haha... just like that farmer website...
Figured that it might be a little higher than interest on a car loan. My current car loan is 3.9%, so maybe 6-8% i was figuring. I might have to do some more considering....
