@_.Simba._ Ruth Pointer has a handful of songs on Spotify, but not this one. The only song from this OST on Spotify is 'Why Should I Worry'. There are covers of the song, but nothing beats the OG.
@_.Simba._ I think that'd be it. I was going to ask what region you were. We don't get to enjoy this on Spotify in the U.S. I'll check it out through a VPN. 👍
So many iconic musicians and actors voiced these characters! And not just for the songs, but did the voices throughout the whole movie. Billy Joel as Dodger, Ruth Pointer as Rita, Bette Midler as Georgette, Cheech Marin as Tito, and a very young Joey Lawrence as Oliver. Such a great movie and definitely one of my favorites!
And this was before playing Disney animated characters was a big thing for Hollywood A-Listers. Great Mouse Detective got a gem of a performance from Vincent Price.
No, Robin Williams was the first celebrity to ever appear in an animated feature, ever. Just ask any critic, The state of the industry is solely _his_ fault (despite him specifically stipulating in his contract that they weren't allowed to use his name to promote the film... which, to make a long story short they did), because everything can be traced back to Aladdin, the first movie in history to ever feature movie actors in it. It's not like Disney hired the two most popular Jazz musicians of the time: Phil Harris and Louis Prima to play two major characters in any movie before that... -or a million other references I could cite.- No, none of that ever happened. _Probably._ /s
Which is precisely why the Retro Decade Revival Project is gonna bring it all back. Our goal is to bring real entertainment, true talent, pure originality and diversity, old school and more back into the public mainstream, starting with the 1980s. Since I love the 80s, it will be the first decade to be brought back in the project.
_We gotta clean you up, child and give you some on the job training_ Ooh, yeah Now listen up You've got a lot to learn And if you don't learn, you don't eat (ha) But if you're tough And always use your head You'll feel right at home on the street When you've got talent everything is free Watch how we do things, ooh, I guarantee You're gonna see how the best survive We make an art out of staying alive If you do just as you're told These are streets of gold Every boulevard is a miracle mile You'll take the town and you'll take it with style If you play it brave and bold These are streets of gold (Listen here, honey) To live from week to week You need technique So you’ll practice every day The only rule is: Thou shalt not get caught Get what you can and then get away Remember all the places you can hide Remember we are always on your side You're gonna see how the best survive We make an art out of staying alive If you do just as you're told These are streets of gold Every boulevard is a miracle mile You'll take the town and you'll take it with style If you play it brave and bold These are streets of gold When you've got talent everything is free Watch how we do things, ooh, I guarantee You're gonna see how the best survive We make an art out of staying alive If you do just as you're told These are streets of gold Every boulevard is a miracle mile You'll take the town and you'll take it with style If you play it brave and bold These are streets of gold You're gonna see how the best survive We make an art out of staying alive If you do just as you're told These are streets of gold Every boulevard is a miracle mile You'll take the town and you'll take it with style If you play it brave and bold These are streets of gold
was listening to this almost non-stop when i was in nyc last year, no regrets. If ever there was a candidate for the most underrated disney song, this is one hell of a contender.
Summerluverchic Eh, why should I worry is like the 3rd and 4th best song for me (The original and the reprise). I think this is tied with perfect isn't easy
I think the reason why The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver & Company are mostly ignored is simply because they came out right before The Little Mermaid and the Disney Renaissance had begun. If this movie came out a year after The Little Mermaid there’s no doubt it would be more popular.
199 minutes music video 15,099 minutes long 900,099 minutes long of the music video this year 2023-2024 on RU-vidPG family thumbs up👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I love this song so much. I always forget it exists and then when I rediscover it I'm just like 'YESS'. I remember watching this movie as a kid and it was SO GOOD. I hate that people say it's the worst, it definitely should have been up there in the category of the Golden era of disney movies.
ashleyofoz it started the golden era of Disney movies because they couldn’t find a suitable story and get audiences back to seeing Disney movies again. So after this came out and became a box office success they then made the little mermaid. Even Roy Disney said this saved their company
Let's be real, this movie is TECHNICALLY the start of the Renissance era. Most of those films were musicals. Little Mermaid didn't start that. This one did. Computer technology was dazzling in Beauty and the Beast? This movie PERFECTLY blends 2D art and Computer made architecture and 3D moments (subway sequence). Sure, Great Mouse Detective had Computer Animation too (clock scene), but that movie was dark and bleak. Oliver started with a rain storm, but then became vibrant and colourful. Even more (arguably depending on the person you talk to) than Lion King. Also, Oliver is quite unique, since not ONE film in the Renissance was a present day film (theorize Aladdin all you want). The fairy tale setting is too obvious with those movies (or past days). This film? It's the closest hand drawn present day film of the bunch. Oliver and Company broke a trend with Disney films, and I think too many people give the film shit for that. Me? Not a fucking chance. The trend breaking was the best thing Disney has ever done. Black Cauldron was rock bottom for Disney in the 80's, and while Great Mouse Detective was a step in the right direction, Oliver and Company was a huge jump forward, and paved the way for the future.
Oooh black cauldron was the first movie I ever saw in theaters at age three. I saw great mouse detective 3 times when it came out in 86 at age four and had readalong. I also saw roger rabbit and Oliver 3 times both in theaters in Omaha when I lived there and saw little mermaid 2 times in theaters at 7. I also saw eighties rereleases of song of the south, lady and tramp, Snow White, 88 reissue of fox and hound, rescuers etc in the late eighties as a kid
I gotta agree with you. Today's music now is pretty okay, but music back then had soul in it. Ruth Pointer is a fantastic singer and Billy Joel is an excellent song writer. Those two are just examples of amazing talent from the past. There are a lot more past artists that had more passion and talent compared to many if not all artists in the current times.
I'm a Irish 16 Yr old who is the only one in my entire year who knows the movie and songs. I'm a true Disney person. Watched it all my life. Shame that no one knows the movie. Its just 2 damn underrated. No fricken clue why.
It's a sin that this film's soundtrack has been largely forgotten by the wider culture. Disney got a great collection of artists and musicians to do music for this film. Of course in spite of that, it has all be overshadowed by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's work.
I would say this is the most under rated song of Oliver seeing as it was the shortest character song ever animated and clearly not edited shorter in the film. Bet it was cut for time, but really Rita's like the coolest character in the movie!
ragerancher Oh jesus. I'm going into exams next week. I can recite Disney movies in perfect time (most of the time at least), but if you asked me to recite anything involving chemistry I'd be lost.
RaroCookie15 just swap out the lyrics for this and replace them with chemistry stuff, for example "when you've got electrons everything's neutral, except for when there's more, then you get ions! you're gonna see, all, the molecules and gonna see the eletrolytes that are made of dissolved stuff. this is chemistry!"
Bro! I randomly thought of this song and looked it up and just now learned that there is a full or extended version of this!!! Yo!!! Adding to my playlist right now!!! Forgot how catchy all the songs were in this movie, especially this one!!
Kids today will never know how awesome this era was where disney and other companies would put out awesome TRUE! Animated movies along with amazing music to go along with them. anyone remember the original Chipmunks movie from the 80's i've been thinking about that one alot love the soundtrack.
You know what, excuse me while this Disney fan rants for a moment. I find it unbelievable that Apple's iTunes has almost ZERO of the songs from the Oliver and Company soundtrack. I've spent a good 30 minutes of my life looking for all of the songs in the movie individually, even the originals by the artists themselves and can only find "Why Should I Worry." It's even hard to find songs by Ruth Pointer herself! I am tired of Oliver and Company not getting the respect it deserves especially since it has one of the best soundtracks ever done by Disney in my opinion. Okay my little rant session is over and no one will probably read this is but I needed to get it out there, now excuse me while I go write an angry email to Apple iTunes, and thank you for your time. XD
Melissa D LOL someone read my comment! Yeah I get that, I’m a little irritated with Disney too cause they don’t even have any Oliver & Company merch! I’ll write an angry email to Disney instead! 😂 and I mean if I wanna listen to it I have this soundtrack saved so I’ll just use RU-vid. But thanks for reading my comment lol! 💖😊
Melissa D wow ur the best lol, and I would never spend all that time writing that comment just to mess with people, I’m passionate about my Disney 😂! And I’ll look into that shirt! Lastly, I’m most likely not gonna write that email, it probably won’t make a different, but if I did I promise I won’t be mean lol, I still LOVE Disney! 😁
The thing with Ruth Pointer is that her voice was more soft and husky yet held such raw, amazing power all the same. That's not easy to accomplish. True talent, plain and simple!
no argument there isn't single disney movie since 2000 aside from Atlantis which is the first disney 2000 classic but the rest are nothing especially classical the worst being frozen which is the worst disney & animated movie in history
playstationsteve Atlantis is awesome! But no love for Treasure Planet, Princess and the Frog or Tangled? Frozen's overrated. We can agree on that. Though Home on the Range may tie with it for worst animated Disney movie in history.
Tangled & Princess & the Frog are classic's that is true but Tangled is a classic solely because it is about rapunzel even though it sucked home on the range I thought was actaully cool not a classic or great or anything but I liked it but good is far as it goes Treasure Planet isn't a classic but it was ok nothing special though. Frozen wasn't overrated it sucked dick the movie is so stupid & uncordinated it's unreal nothing about it is classical great or anything & anyone who thinks it's classical know's shit about movies period. These movies are the only disney classics since the 2000 hit & only 1 is the greatest Atlantis to start out with the only great 1 Wall E is a classic Tangled is a classic Princess & The Frog is classic & lastly Wizard of Oz but that movie has been remade millions of times so it auotmatically counts these movies aren't classics but were still awesome disney movies 2 of em I love till this day & always will Brother Bear & Incredibles love them 2 so much Lilo & Stitch was cool too & Emperor New Groove they weren't classical but still could kick it certain 1's. Here's the main thing though no disney movies in the 2000's including the classical's & even in the future & the 1's currently being made now will ever be as great as the 1's from the past I'm talking from the 90's 80's 70's 60's 50's 40's & 30's when disney first started we all know that hell some disney movies in the 2000's are remakes of old ones & I just learned that Pinnochio Mulan & Beauty & the Beast are going to be remade in like 2019 & 2020.These disney movies such as Monster's inc Chicken Little Meet the Robinson's Bolt Frozen Car's Finding Nemo The Brave Up all sucked & no matter what will never be great or anything they are terrible disney is beyond desperate no wonder there remaking old school 1's.
I agree, I was disappointed they never made a sequel all those years ago, they should make a remake including a new backstory that shows what happened to Oliver's parents before he was about to be sold with other kittens.
What a great movie. From a time when you could still live in New York and have hope. Backwood New York was a big city with big opportunity, rather than a big city with big crime.
2022 and still jamming to a great song from a great movie that introduced me to a really cool classic car as well as banger songs like this one with this song being number 1 on my list and that classic car being the lincoln continental from this movie the 70's Era of continental thos cars had a really good look about them.
One of the best songs Rita Sang in Oliver and Company Streets of Gold was one of my favorite songs in the first grade and second grade prior to the Kiss the Girl and Under The Sea from Little Mermaid
