Oliver Mtukudzi Ft Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Neria A classic song originally done by Dr Oliver Mtukudzi given new life and now features the voices of the Grammy Award winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
I am originally from Tanzania. I got to know Tuku really well to the point where I drove him and his wife around Toronto in 2018. About 6 weeks, I went to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo in concert near Toronto. After the show i went to see the group in the dressing room. I told them I was a friend of Tuku - they all got around me and started to sing Neria in the dressing room It brought tears to my eyes.
My name is NERIA, I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, my parents are from the British Guyana, I just find this song... My mother and grand mother name's was NERIA. Now I live in France... Each time I hear this son, is like hearing my ancestral ...VIVE LE METISSAGE!

I really regret not listening to Oliver Mtukudzi's music more when he was alive. May he rest in peace. A while back I was at a record store (in the United States) I was browsing world music and saw the album "Tuku Music". I had no idea who Oliver Mtukudzi was at the time, but I wanted to broaden my horizons and try something new. I really do love his music, I sometimes put that album on while I'm sitting around on Sunday mornings. I later found out my dad is also a fan of Oliver. I heard the news of what happened to him and really thought about things. Oliver seemed like a really nice person, and I wish I knew more about him. I would have loved to meet him, but I hope he's resting well now. Thank you Oliver.
@ Leo Spencer, you don't know how right you are about this legend of song and dance. Dr Oliver Mtukudzi was a gentle giant who lived by the tenets of all the best religious teachings. He was a down to earth man; kind to a fault. When he was starting his career and living in his parents' house in Old Highfield, Harare, Zimbabwe, my friends and I would go and watch him practising on the verandah of the house. We were welcome any time. Later, when Tuku had become a household name, he started a project of finding and financing young bands that were just starting; one of them was called Pengaudzoke. Dr Oliver Mtukudzi led by example and was principled. He was never scared of anyone - and some politicians in that country (Zimbabwe) are SCAAAAARY - but he always admonished them through Shona idioms in his music. His passing was a personal loss to me, but much more than that, the whole world has lost a fine human being. R.I.P. gwenyambira.
I dedicate this song to Zimbabwe the country being represented by Neria. Zimbabwe's husband died a long time ago but God is with her, got be strong Zimbos God is with you 🙏
Most South Africans love this song, and we don't even know what it's about. To see Ladysmith Black Mambazo add a piece of their soul into makes it even more special. It's always special when Africans come together✊

You need to watch the Zim movie titled Neria for which movie Oliver sang the song Noria. Its about property grabbing when a man dies and leaves behind a wife and children
This must be the most beautiful music I've heard in weeks, months... or perhaps even years... A divine combination of sounds, voices and instruments. Greetings from Lithuania. May God bless Africa and its people, and unite the African nations. And may God make my dream to visit Zimbabwe someday come true. Ameen ♡
Am deep into sorrow for the death of our legend Mtukuzi. He was not only for Zimbabwe but for everyone in Africa as well as outside Africa. I shall greatly miss you.
Just heard this beautiful song today for the first time. The voices the melody, the rhythm, touch and resonate so profoundly with the soul. I don't understand the words but I do identify with the universal language of the song. Brilliant
Being a Motswana I can't understand any shona but I love love absolutely adore Ntate Oliver's music. I find myself crying at times listening to it. Thanks to platforms like these that allow us to see his music. Beautiful

@@ngobenitlangelani2882 I watched the movie so l knew it was about a woman who lost her husband but it was such a long time ago that l forgot the lyrics. I grew up in Botswana and l think we watched the movie at school. It was about AIDS and young people, l believe. Such a beautiful song. Didn't even know he died till today. May he rest in perfect peace.
So beautiful, heartwarming, reminding me of European Baroque music. I can't wait to hear more of it from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia
Ntuntuko, its a song written in the early 90s by Mtukudzi talking about how women were treated after their husbands passed on i.e the brothers would come take the house and furniture leaving the wife and children with nothing even money from work/pension was taken as well. Tuku is saying stay strong my sister/daughter God is with you and will look after you and your children. Death is jealous it seperates loved one's
@@wekwamazorodze8660 he wrote this song for the film wind of change, when they got to hear the song they changed the title of the film, and it was called Neria. The film was financed by Norad witch is the norwegian national help organisation. They wanted to support african artist with money so they could give the african people an african story, told filmed and published by only africans. The idea is that nobody can make a better image of africa than africans. Norway was a colony for more years than any other country ever was a colony, and we never had a colony our self. We got our freedom in 1905. That is the reason Norway understand the africans need for freedom, and to tell their own story. With the deepest respect for all africans, you do that good, better than any other people.
@@runeotto Your words made me cry.I usually see comments from white people on youtube.Usually condescending, and judgmental but yours is very sincere and heartfelt.I never knew that this movie had a different name,or how the Norwegians helped bring it about. That was very lovely of you guys amd God bless you.We are all one people, color means nothing.
I'm sitting here in my living room trying to fend off a sore throat with home remedies and Lady Blacksmith popped into my mind. I used to listen to them quite often years ago. I was born and raised in Jamaica, but I am so proud of my African roots. Even did my DNA ancestry and found out I have 96.7% African DNA primarily of Yoruba and Esan people, but all of Africa is mine. Anyway, searching for Lady Blacksmith brought me to this and after just a few seconds I realized I have listened to this many times before. Such a beautiful song. When you come from the soul the language heard by the natural ears is of much I significance. Sir Oliver, the universe now sings of Neria. As we say on Jamaica (and as I do not believe the soul sleeps in death) I say walk good mi bredda 🙏🏿😊
It's unfortunate there is no music channel on dstv that is dedicated to such music (African); this shows how lost and controlled we are by the media, being exposed to what (music) they want.
Can't believe I live in the times where great legends such as baba Oliver Mtukudzi live. It is such and honor to points where I can't wait for my next generation to hear him!
My Zimbabwean pen pal showed me this song, and then I watched the movie! This is such a beautiful song, and I hope one day that I visit Zimbabwe! Greetings from Atlanta, Georgia!
@@kundaichiremba7279 This is most harmony voices and an instrument that shows that AFRICAN AMERICANS .We are highly talented that we received fro from God almighty put us here in AFRICA .GOD BLESS AFRICA AND HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS. MAY OLIVER'S SOUL REST IN PEACE
Mambazo and Oliver are to be remembered for years and ages to come. Their voices showed the world who Africa is. It's 2020 and can't stop replaying their songs.
Without a doubt, the best version of this song that I have seen on video...Ladysmith is an unbelievable fit with Tuku's style, may he forever rest in peace.
It basically means be comforted and worry not because God is with you. It was a track based on the movie 'Neria' in which Oliver Mtukudzi himself featured as Neria's brother and he played this song for her when her character lost her husband and her inlaws were mistreating her
I'm Nigerian and I got here because I was looking for a song to pair with Tendai Huchu's The Hairdresser of Harare for an Instagram post and I just know I've heard this song in my childhood on one of those African movies that used to air on the local channels and I'd sing it later on while growing up but I didn't know if I was singing it right, who sang it or what country it originated from. It's so wonderful listening to this beauty of a song as an adult now. Viva Africa ❤️❤️
Oooh please, this is very beautiful and powerful. If only my mother was alive , she used to enjoy this song. Music is indeed universal. To my late mother- I will always miss you Sifiso Ncube Maseko😥
Legendary Tuku with Legendary Mambazo. Master work!!! Joseph Shabalala and Oliver Mtukudzi are my favorites. Having them here is unexplainably awesome and heartbreaking that both of them are gone. Usizi ngempela alukhethanga. Lwagadla ngapha nangapha
SOUTH AFRICANS WAKE UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE...STOP THE HATRED AND XENOPHOBIA TOWARDS US BLACK AFRICAN WHO LIVES IN SA....GOD IS ONE and GOD IS LOVE....... THE JUDGEMENT DAY IS NEAR .....WATCH THIS SPACE.....
Ghana representing... I got to know about Kutu through a Ghanaian brother living in South Africa, I loved his songs immediately I heard their reheasals session on my Friends watsapp status since then I started following his music... purely authentic African music... #AfricaUnite #ProudlyAfrican #ProudlyGhanaian...
Thank you for your sentiments. I think you meant TUKU. Kutu is the name we give little dogs in Zimbabwe. Hope you can retrospectively correct. Peace and love.
I'm so annoyed with myself right now, l never knew this version existed. Where on earth have l been. I have always been to listening to original one. Now, this is pure African rich- raw talent right here.
What does one say here? This is ethereal. Makes me so proud to be African. Love to all here. No one will ever accuse us of failing to live a charmed life.
i cant translate word for word, but to give you an idea, the song address those suffering particularly women that they must no lose hope, they will overcome eventually.
Talent is something you are born with and all this is proof this song touches my soul Neria I am going to play this song 24/7 what's not to enjoy here RIP to this Legend
My spirit is renewed & my soul nourished when I listen to this song especially now when enemies are after my life. A brilliant Sunday morning on Sunday 1st March, 2020. Buruburu, Nairobi County.
Thats what happens when Africans love each other. There is our legend Tuku," mr Mtukudzi" and southafricans. "Lady Smith" sugar. The sweetness has been increased.
Saw him performing live in Bulawayo at Queens Sports Club. I went to the show with my friend Blessed Chirambira and he passed on three years later. May their souls Rest In Peace.
this is the art of music...the tranquilizing effect of the rhythm that resonates well with the inner soul.......the thundering voices and the calm periodic guitar tune just invoke an involuntary smile..the tone and pace creates a universal musical language that is understood and embraced by everyone...music that speaks to your heart leaving a satisfaction that makes you repeat the song over and over again but sounding new all the time...well done..
You only realize how great a person was post his/her dearth. Fortunately I’m an exception, I loved Tuku left , right & center. We were robbed of a true iconic, talented hero😰. Rest in eternal peace Oliver. You left us forever lasting voice and will keep rejoicing in it till we meet again.
Collaboration is power. When each one give their best the beautiful harmony released changes the atmosphere. May such power produce transformation in all social spheres.
This is amazing, I just saw the title and liked before watching. Not disappointed at all. Southern Africa is the hub of good world class African Music!!! It's such a good time to be alive✊🏿
I don't understand a single word but.... This is just Divine!!! Mr. Oliver and the Black Mambazo singers you are Wonderful!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💖💖💖💖💖💖 I am from Suriname and we're enjoying this. Music unites us all over the world and brings us back to our roots.
My heart will forever ache now you have departed this hell of a place we call earth! You will forever be with us through the beautiful music you have left us! I remember watching you when I was aged 9 and I knew then... music is what I will pursue! RIP Tuku 🙏🏾
Very beautiful African song! This song resonates with the kind of woes that afflict Africa right before independence, post independence to date. Africa needs a breather from the looting and plunder.
