No award could be big enough. We who listen and tell our friends and family to listen, and then they spread the word. Thats the award. From them, to us.
They are not great because of five Grammy Awards. They are great because they sing the struggle of the people of South Africa. Ladysmith was singing to help break apartheid not get Grammy Awards. White people perspectives are crazy.
U r sooo right. I'm Nigerian too, but wen it coms 2dis Acapella tin, Mzansi r d kings. SA sabi sing die. Their apartheid struggle songs dey carry person 2 anoda realm
As a teenager I heard them practicing across the bushveld just outside of a town called Colenso. It struck as a truly spectacular moment in my world. Tears.
Joseph Shabalala is Christian and this music is a fusion of traditional Zulu and Christian gospel musical styles. To young black South Africans, this was their parents' music, as old-fashioned and outmoded as the blues is to young black American fans of rap/hip-hop etc. LBM's enthusiastic reception surprised and dismayed young black South Africans. But the music's basic simplicity, sincerity and goodness have sustained it despite its detractors and allowed it to outlast more transient fads.
from a Country that instituted something as ugly as apartheid came this slice of wonder and beauty. there is always hope that the light will will overcome the darkness. one love!.
From Chile I salute the great Joseph Shabalala, I´ve just listened about his death,,,,, I´m very sad. It´s a loss for the world...no t only for music...his sweetness , his talent, went through any camera or picture.
This bring back memories. Every time I heard them on the radio I knew my daddy was up cleaning early morning. While making 🇸🇱 rice pap for breakfast and other dishes to follow for lunch and dinner. Oh, how I miss my childhood
Sitting here thinking how empty my childhood would have been without your songs. I’m still thanking my Dad for buying your cassettes😅( yea that’s how it was called back then) Big thanks much love❤️❤️🇨🇲
Trying the same challenge since covid. It's only takes a week or two of no paycheck to be homeless. This song speaks of challenges we never anticipated.
Thank you, our beautiful brother Joseph Shabalala, for giving us your amazing music, international solidarity, spiritual strength, compassion, and happy energy. We love this song. We miss you, but we will never forget you!
Thank You to the organisers of World Expo88, who brought the group to perform on the Riverside, despite the apartheid in South Africa. Their voices and melodies keep me captivated, even now in November 2022. So long Joseph the group leader.
Thulani has such a powerful voice and I am happy that he can keep that standard set by uBaba Shabalala. It was a really lifetime experience watching you guys in Arnhem, the Netherlands 22 September 2022. You are a gift from God to spread peace, love, and harmony to the world.
gordana balasko you feel the lyrics not meant for the outsider to understand. It’s to be felt. African native tongue is a deeper understanding and being one with one self
@@amandankhosi2039 This for asking. I’m doing fine. Almost died cuz of Covid end September. Thks to a wonderful sister I made it to live and tell the tale. How are you doing.
@@amandankhosi2039 I’m live in Holland Amsterdam but was born in the Caribbean. A country called Surinam. You might wanna look it op on the map. Moved to Holland in 1965. Married to a Dutch wife now 35 years and going for another 35 years. 2 kids and one wonderful grandson. How bout you.
I remember the group coming to my hometown when I was younger. A little brown girl from a small white city, I was in awe seeing real Africans for the first time. Still one of my fondest memories. their vocals were so amazing.
I love the way the singers interpret the song; - the voices different sections from tenor to deep baritone - are soft and gentle, just like light from the moon. That's why the song to me sounds like a lullaby.
Recently saw them in concert. Truly magical, though couldn't believe how youthful and energetic Prof Joseph Shabalala was until I realized it was one of his sons! Passing down the gauntlet. How wonderful!
I first listened to this late 90s on Radio Nigeria.. I was so young but I felt this song deeply. Here I am in 2021, and it feels very nostalgic! God Bless Africa, One love 🙌🏼❤️.
Who is here with me after the death of the African hero best voice in Africa you will never be forgotten and you will always be remembered. We love you hero rest in perfect peace hero may the almighty God grant you paradise Amen. 😭😭🙏🙏🙏
I got to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo quite a many years back, in Montreal .WOWOW!! WHat an amazing show. They are spectacular...those voices are mesmerizing and felt deeply by the human soul. I was moved to tears when they sang the African Anthem. That night is etched in my heart forver. Grateful for this music..BEAUTIFUL!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE these guys ♥
Unless I was mislead... I was told this is the Nation Anthem of South Africa: South Africa Anthem Text Nkosi sikelel' Afrika Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo, Yizwa imithandazo yethu, Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo. Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso, O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho, O se boloke, O se boloke setjhaba sa heso, Setjhaba sa South Afrika - South Afrika. Uit die blou van onse hemel, Uit die diepte van ons see, Oor ons ewige gebergtes, Waar die kranse antwoord gee, Sounds the call to come together, And united we shall stand, Let us live and strive for freedom, In South Africa our land. Is this correct?
Think it's been (more then?) 12 y.a. a Soweto friend took me to a show in Leiden - Neths. Still so grate and thankfull!! Thank you again, Sonke!! May Miriam and Joseph DO sing out loud in Heaven and welcome the (real) Covid 19 - victums....!
As a child I learned all of the words to this song because I felt so connected to my soul when I listened to it. It's been my life long dream to work with Lady Smith Black Mambazo. I'm looking forward to manifesting that dream in the near future!
Joseph Shabalala had a series of dreams of Zulu Isicathamiya harmonies, which lead him to forming LBM. They’re on tour right now, perhaps you can approach them? I’ll be seeing them when they come to my city next month. I’m so excited!
Ladysmith Black Mambazo are a true reason why I'm in music industry. These men have transformed not only my life but that of others too. It's a chain.. God bless their music and all the listeners around the globe. Lastly but not least,RIP Dr Joseph B Mshengu Shabalala. It was an honor to meet you in person
