Olivia Rodrigo & Avril Lavigne perform Complicated live in concert at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada on Night 1 of 2, Friday April 29th, 2022. See my other videos for more from this performance.
Look how respectful Olivia is to Avril, she gave Avril the proper introduction. Let Avril sang the first part of the song before they did the duet. How can you not love Olivia.
you know how iconic you have to be to have the whole crowd singing every word of your song at someone else’s concert over a decade after you released it??? love avril edit: 20 YEARS?!! legendary
@@josephlawrence9584lmao I was going to say the same exact thing! Olivia Rodrigo didn’t even show up on her dad’s sperm count when this album was released. We were all listening to Avril on our medieval MP3 players longggg before GEN Z. I knew every song, every lyric and the order they went in on her first two CDs. I used to blast Sk8ter boy on my boom box as loud as possible. Gosh, I’m feeling like a bit of a boomer referencing all these things from, “back in MY day,” but that kind of stuff was our generations HG. Before iPods and IPhones- before dial up internet and AIM. Mannnn those were the good ole days. Proud af to be a 90’s kid ✌🏽💿📀 ( btw I’ve kept those first two albums through the years and they amongst others like *NSYNC, BB, Britney, etc. have moved from car to car with me as I got older and they are still with me in my treasured CD case I keep in my sedan at all times to this day). Avril with forever be nostalgic to me.
I can't believe this actually happened! Loved this song since I was a kid,, but ever since I went to Olivia's show and heard her cover, I've been listening to both versions nonstop! And now Olivia had a full duet with Avril, she looks so happy!!! I wish I was in this crowd, but I'm glad I at least saw Olivia live!
@@Wolpire331 Canadian legend? She's the OG scene girl. Everyone knows the words to all of her jams, she's been on every NOW and KidzBop compilation, she's way cooler than any new singer, and she's a global legend.
@@sonofdistress it's probably because it's in Toronto. If you watch olivia singing this song in other places (without Avril, of course) the crowd does not know the lyrics so well.
i love that new new girls are paying homage to the artists they grew up on. Billie elish brought Hayley Williams of Paramore on her coachella set, and now olivia bringing out Avril ❤ it’s also nice to see the previous generation is welcoming to the next one😭💖💖
@Morgan Pettipas why? Avril's first song was 21 years ago and Olivia is 20. Avril has had 7 albums, 6 of which Olivia was alive forsee could have easily grown up with Goodbye Lullaby or Avril Lavigne. Or even earlier albums since they still existed. You don't know Olivia so how you gonna say this?
This song is such an anthem. That whole crowd knows every word. They came to see Olivia and got the great surprise of seeing Avril. They were more than prepared to belt out her signature song.
Olivia is so respectful 1. She let Avril sing first 2. She chose her song (unlike most artists🙄) 3. She did a proper introduction 4. She wore a matching skirt with her 5. Hug her All I can say is this perforce was I C O N I C Edit: 197 likes- 😳✋🏻
I don't care what type of music you like. This looks like it was a lot of fun to be at. These ladies and that crowd are happy and having fun. just what we need right about now. This is better than a box of puppies.
I agree. This song was very popular when I was a kid, but I was never a big fan of it, nor of Avril, and to be honest I don't even know who Olivia is. (Random youtube recommendation, clicked on it cause this song reminds me of childhood ;)) But exactly like you said, regardless of the type of music I like (for instance, PJ Harvey is who I adore ;), it was just very nice and made me smile to see both of them and the crowd being happy and having a lot of fun :)
I agree, this isn't my jam, I don't have avril in a favorites list , but it's Great music( I can still appreciate and respect the hell outta something I may not listen to) and great music live is amazing, alot of people forget how special hearing live music( pop, rock, rap, metal edm etc) is. I'd be going nuts if I were there.
She's currently one of the word's most successful singers..and she behaves like a schoolgirl fan in front of Avril! That girl has character as well as talent.
Right she's still quite young and new and Avril is way more famous and established. I've seen way more seasoned celebrities fangirling over other celebs.
Olivia’s has quickly become a master of working the crowd.. She handles herself so well, as we see here with Avril. As we saw with that boy whose hand she kissed in NYC and the prom queens with Gracie Abrams in Detroit -- plus blowing a kiss to that little girl. Grabbing phones and filming herself. Stopping concerts when she has perceived that someone in the audience needs help. Singing a duet so charmingly and affectionately with Conan Gray. Chalk it up to a Great Heart and Charisma Overload . She is turning these concerts into Events. It may get noisy with the nonstop singalongs but she is bringing much joy. What a memorable tour.
Yes, she is just getting started and is gaining on-stage confidence at an exponential rate. I only wish she would consider a Broadway musical, using new songs by her, or a Netflix musical like “tick, tick . . . boom!” She has what it takes.
@@xxesaye Doing the live shows is nice but I do not think she signed up for a career of singalong concerts, even though she handles those so charmingly. However, she could work a singalong element into a Broadway show and from time to time employ big screens showing music videos and satiricail references to social media. The obvious subject: the overnight success of a young singer and how she deals with it. Callling Lin-Manuel Miranda to write and direct the show!!!! I agree with you. I am sure she and her management are looking at this. It is such an obvious next step. *The young lady has got IT.* (Yes, I know. I have been harping on the Broadway thing for months . . .)
Olivia fangirling over Avril is just the sweetest thing. So many happy vibes. Also, I so appreciate that she not only gave Avril a proper intro, but let her sing first and also let her sing the last line - truly making the performance about her. Respect for this young lady.
Olivia’s little dance/freak out when Avril comes on stage at 0:18 is the purest thing ever. You can tell even SHE hasn’t fully processed that this is happening
It’s such a beautiful song and I’m honestly amazed to see the current generation still knowing all the lyrics to avrils songs.. I really didn’t expect this but I love it
I like how Olivia seems hyped by Avril too, like a fan that can sing with their idol, and then she interacts to the crowd knowing that they are fans of both of them.
I'm 25 now but avril was one of my first CDs. As a mixed girl, I sometimes caught a lot of hate for listening to all the different music that I do from prince to classical music. but I still knew every word and almost cried. I love both of these women so much. they are so talented. this is iconic.
@Wilt Chamberlain is the GOAT Newer music is often pretty original. 2012-16 was kinda a dark period were a lot of music sucked, but it's been great lately.
@@cutiedopo17 she wasn't alive in 2002 but yea I am from 2003 and thanks to my old sister I know a lot of good songs from early 2000 like I could sing every song from taylor swift by memory
Her 2002 album really had such a strong influence on my childhood 💕 I am so happy to see now that Olivia provides a similar way to "feel through the harder feelings"
I was 20yrs younger when Avril released this, my daughter is an Olivia fan & now an Avril fan too because of this track, both ladies rock, fantastic collaboration 👍👏
Fun Facts: Avril Lavigne released "Complicated" in 2002. Olivia Rodrigo was born in 2003. I'm not really a fan of Olivia but I just find it actually cool that she's singing a song that was so popular a year before she was even born and she's singing it onstage with the "Pop Punk Queen" of my generation. Bravo! 👏 Great representation of two generations! 🤘 #AvrilLavigne #poppunkqueen #OliviaRodrigo #complicated
I've seem Avril in concert more times than anyone else. At least 6 times and yet I'm still so jealous of not seeing this amazing and incredible rendition live as well. Sigh. Avril and I are the exact same age so as much as I absolutely love Olivia and her music, I feel id be a little out of place at an Olivia concert but ....maybe id be welcomed more than I thought. Love this so much
This is some wholesome, i love how Olivia is with Avril - letting her sing the first part of the song, introducing her...honestly one of the best clips ive seen !
This is one of my favorite avril lavigne songs, its so nice to see her singing it here with olivia! they both look like they’re having so much fun with that and i love how at the end she told the audience to cheer for avril as well 😊😊 very sweet performance
Wow Avril Lavigne is so chill. Like it legit seems like she came out to do a favor for a friend, and like shes watching Olivia having so much fun and being so excited. Like shes just vibing WITH the crowd, not tryna make a fuss over herself? Idk it seems so laid back i canttt
Imagine Hayley Williams /Paramore with Olivia on stage performing Good4U & Misery Business together! Just like what Billie Eilish did last coachella! It will be a dream!
Avril just increasing the number of artists she works with or writes for. Everyone knows Breakaway for Kelly Clarkson. She also wrote Daydream for Demi Lovato, Daydream for Miranda Cosgrove (also a hit), All Because of You for Puffy Ami Yumi (a Japanese duo) and became their lead single, I Will Be for Lenona Lewis's debut album (Avril eventually released this one herself as well), Dancing Crazy for Miranda Cosgrove (if you listen closely to this one, she sings it like Avril would sing it), Taboo Love for Enable3 and a bunch of others. She is really a prolific writer and this is just fun to watch her with Olivia Rodrigo.
I’m from the generation of Avril, and don’t know Olivia too well, but she seems like a great person and someone who really idolizes Avril, so much respect to her!!!
This is amazing and a beautiful thing to happen! I grew up with Avril’s music and now people are growing up with Olivia’s music. This is an iconic masterpiece 😭😭😭 And they’re both so beautiful and talented. I bet Olivia was fangirling
@@goncalofernandes9721 yes i know that. but i recorded my first concert and i lost the footage and now i cant remember it, so i record so i can look back and remember it. theres nothing wrong with it
I'm the same age as Olivia but still managed to hear and be inspired by Avril's work. She's such a great woman, all female artists look up to her... it's just pure and right. My heart's so happy to see them perform THEE ICONIC song of all times.
Complicated - Avril Lavigne (Lyrics) Uh huh, life's like this Uh huh, uh huh, that's the way it is 'Cause life's like this Uh huh, uh huh, that's the way it is Chill out, what ya yellin' for? Lay back, it's all been done before And if, you could only let it be, you will see I like you the way you are When we're driving in your car And you're talking to me one on one, but you become Somebody else 'Round everyone else You're watching your back Like you can't relax You try to be cool You look like a fool to me Tell me Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated? I see the way you're acting like you're somebody else Gets me frustrated Life's like this, you And you fall, and you crawl, and you break And you take what you get, and you turn it into Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you faking No, no, no You come over unannounced Dressed up like you're somethin' else Where you are and where it's at you see You're making me Laugh out when you strike your pose Take off all your preppy clothes You know you're not fooling anyone When you become Somebody else 'Round everyone else You're watching your back Like you can't relax You try to be cool You look like a fool to me Tell me
dreams come true: a girl singing in front of thousands with the singer who was her childhood idol...thank you olivia thank you avril that's the good things in life
OMG as someone whos first concert was Avril this brings back memories... of the whole arena singing every word from start to finish, of losing my voice for the next few days, and of Avril tearing up because people knew the verses of songs that she didn't think were as popular as they were. I'm soooool jealous of everyone that was there.
as some1 who grew up listening to avril this was so bittersweet and iconic…its amusing as well bc she was also ard olivia’s age when she dropped complicated & blew up exactly 20 years ago 🥺❤️
Yaaaaas! So proud and happy seeing my fave artists performing together on one stage. Love their performance so much!! Day 16 of SOUR T♡UR! 0:18 I really love Olivia's reaction *fangirling*.. and the crowd just goin'crazy. 🤟🏻🥰😘🤟🏻 Btw, thanks a lot for this full video.
