@@RobTrek Hi Rob as matter of fact I do have 3 questions. 1. I use the fonction button to come back to myset like you thought us but every time the camera goes on sleep mode it reverts to settings that I changed while playing with it and I don't remember exactly what I changed. Is there a way for the camera to permanently stay on my favored base settings? 2. I can't find part 6 of the series for beginners for the OM-d E-M10 do you know where I can find it? 3. After I am done that series what videos do yo recommend I watch next? Thanks a lot for your videos once again, and I would but much oblige if you would take the time to answer these questions.

Thanks. I usually set the first timer to 10 secs so I have time to align the shot over my head then 3 to 5 seconds in between depending on how windy it is.

General shutter speeds for portraits are 1/60th or faster, macro & telephoto I'd go for 1/200th or faster. Landscape anything is good on a tripod. Moving subjects depends on how fast they are moving. People 1/800th, animals and birds 1/2000th or faster.

I love table tennis! Try using C-AF, Tracking OFF, Single Point Focus, Silent Continuous Low Shutter, Shutter Priority at 1/250th and faster, and C-AF Release OFF.

Thanks. I'd probably shoot in shutter priority at 1/800th sec, auto everything else. Select single point or 3x3 group focus. Aim for the chest when focusing. To keep ISO low, try 1/400th or even 1/200th. You may get some motion blur if they are moving but if you pan it could make for some interesting shots.

I think either the E-M5 Mark II or Mark III would be a great upgrade/replacement. However, if you like the tilting rear screen rather than the flip out, then go with the EM10 Mark ii. Skip the Mark III and IV.

The settings and menus are very similar, you should have no problem adapting what I show here to the em1.ii. The only significant difference that stands out is the auto iso is limited to 6400 on the em1.ii. The menus are also spread out a bit more and the super control panel has even more options.

Generally, I'm in aperture priority, lens set to f/5.6, ISO 400, and flash in full manual. I have three custom modes (mysets). Myset1 is HDR 3shots +/- 2ev with flash OFF, Myset2 is HDR OFF and flash ON, and Myset 3 is HDR & Flash OFF, custom shutter shutter mode 5 shots with 1 second interval. I use Myset 1 & 2 for interiors and exposure blend them in Photoshop. I use Myset 3 for exterior shots when holding the camera high up for overhead shots. This gives me options to choose which shot looks best as the camera is usually unstable when overhead and the composition is all over the place. I adjust the flash power depending on the size of the room. I will adjust ISO to give the flash a bit more reach and balance ambient. At some point, a room is too large for the flash, so I will set an off camera flash in different parts of the room and take multiple shots. Hey, we all know you live near the big city lights, but if you ever get a chance to find a really dark location, could you try and share your approach to milky way photography? A tall order, but you do have that 7-14mm wide lens...which is what I guess you'd use looking toward the Southern sky. Guessing you'd have to go all the way to Zekiah Swamp (I used to live up that way). Anyway -- you are a great instructor. Thanks for a really fine channel.

Thanks. I'd probably go out to Shenandoah and use my 12mm f/2.0. It's a full 2 stops faster than my 7-14. Still a tough call. Wider lenses let you use longer shutter speeds, so I'll have to experiment. My goto camera for astro is my Nikon d750 and 20mm f/1.8. Haven't tried any of my Olympus gear for that yet. Hi. Which camera do you have? Check the "D" menu for display settings for shutter modes. Sometimes anti-shock is turned off by default.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Look in Shooting Menu #2, you'll see "Anti-Shock/Slikent" settings to turn on and off.

You just need to turn off flickr scan. Goto the video menu -> Mode Settings -> Flicker Scan "OFF".

Seems like they disabled access to the silent shutter when using the timelapse on the Mark III. On my E-M10 Mark II, I can set the shutter to silent in PASM modes, then go into interval shooting using silent shutter. It does seem your only option is to record video then shrink. Just note that video is limited to 29 minutes and the battery will only last about 1.5 hours total. So you'll need to restart the recording and swap batteries or use a dummy battery.

In case you're interested, I've communicated with Olympus CS and they've assured me that if the mechanical shutter would "wear out" it would be covered by the warranty, no question asked. Also they've expressed that the shutter estimated life (e.g. 100k, 200k, 400k actuations) is a mere estimate, as they don't actually wear-test shutters to their limit. If I may ask you one more thing, as far as you know which of the E-M10 IV, E-M5 II/ III, EM1 II/ III - DO ALLOW the use of the silent/electronic shutter in interval shooting? (in case I might want to buy another camera) Thanks again.

Yes. Just put the mode dial to "M". You can then control everything.

Yes, I know to put it in Manual Mode. But I do know see where/how to select shutter speed. I can see ISO and aperture, but not shutter speed.

@@debbiekarnes22 Hi. By default, when you are in M mode, the front dial sets aperture, the rear dial sets shutter speed. If this is not the case, go into the custom menu "B" and check the dial function there. You can assign the front and rear dials. ISO is usually set in the super control panel.

I'm saving that for another video and the em10-ii took the acc port away! I use the sema on my pl8 and love it.

Hi. The shutter speed is represented in fractions of a second. So 1" is 1"/1". 1.3 is actually 1/1.3 1.6 is actually 1/1.6 and so on. 200 is 1/200 Hope that helps. -Rob

Yes, silent/electronic is the same. It's okay for portraits unless you are using flash. Then mechanical shutter is mandatory.

Hi. Thanks for pointing out these contradictions. Often my personal settings vs recommended settings can differ. At the time of ep.49, I was shooting a lot in manual focus, continuous high shutter, so I prioritized shutter speed over focus and stabilization. For beginners, I generally recommend prioritizing focus and stabilization over shutter fps to get sharper images. Hope that helps. Please don't hesitate to point out any inconsistencies. I'm always happy to elaborate or make corrections.
