There was a whole strange genre in the late '50's that mixed hot rods, motorcycles and lovers dying in crashes. It's the epic teen tragedy of the hot rod crowd. Check out Dead Man's Curve or Leader of the Pack

@@allisonyoung4007 lol i honestly thing that the 50s and 60s had less car crashes then when Millenials started to drive. I mean when we started driving most of us had cell phones and as teens most of us engaged in the doing drugs and drinkings. You gotta think the kids back in in the 50s and 60swere raised by the adults who lived turning the great depression so rules for the kids back then were alot more strict then today. Due to the main reason of the government wasn't involed as much as they were for us.. The government now days are in every way in your life on what you can and can't do..im really surprised that they haven't told us when we can shower or use the tolit yet in our homes. So the punishment for kids in the 50s and 60s hell they got spanked by the school teachers then at home with wooden hangers or what not..if you tried that now days your child is taken. So honestly yeah I do think that life as a teen back then you has to be more responsible as most teen also had jobs by the age 15 as well if not sooner.

@@Indo_European_Nordic Well, on the flip side- I'm a widow of a man raised by 50s parents who beat the crap out of him & he said he WISHED someone would have said something abt his bruises~ So we never hit ours. They r fully employed 20smthings who don't drink, smoke , any of that fun stuff I did in the 80s. So while I get the nostalgia & luv the tunes~ well...just sayin( as the kids say). No offense intended in the least, btw~✌😊

@@allisonyoung4007 ah none taken lol i ain't like most of my age. Yeah I mean it's good but then it's bad to have government in our lives the way they are. I mean don't get me wrong I don't believe any person as a child should endure abuse of any kind but yet with what Clinton did in 94 it just messed up the whole thing because they made it where if a person don't like you it's based on hearsay not facts... So alot of kids got removed that shouldn't have while others who should have been didn't and ended up dead. Not because of the lack of employees but the false narratives gave the state the lack of fact then with that was the lack of removing said truly abused child. I mean don't get me wrong im for and not for child protective..i mean I think they need facts of proof not just be hearsay and yes whole that's some child protective its also some judges as well. Do I think protecting kids who are meaning truly abuse should be handled yes I do but not the ones who hasn't. I'm a person of facts and truth. I don't see eye to eye with mist of my generation as most are sheep they follow a flock. It's like with the current situation that we have. I see a bunch of sheep not true protesters. To me a true protester would fights to protect our birth given rights of the constitution not of just one race because in the end its all about good people vs the bad people not of what race one is.

India...if you do a search for "J. FRANK WILSON and the Cavaliers", you WILL find information regarding the group, the song itself, and othe recordings they've made.. I was 14 years old when this was released in 1964.. one of the great recordings of that year...I LOVED songs that were released in 1963, and 1964 ~ a GREAT time to listen to the Top 40 hits on the radio.. I started listening to music and taking it seriously at a very young age (2nd grade) while living in the hospital for 6 months. The first 2 mo. I was isolated, but the last 4 mos. it was dormitory style with 8 beds per room. The girls were older than me (13, 14). It was 1962 and I was the only one with a handheld transistor radio which was really cool to have in those days. They'd ask me to tune it to KIMN or KTLK out of Denver whenever we had free time to ourselves. I said all that to say how much I enjoy your reactions. When I know something surprising, weird, crazy or some wild emotion is coming up in one of the songs, I stop and look up from whatever I'm involved with just to see your reaction. It's how I would react to songs when I first heard them. Hits me right in the gut. I've always been sensitive to music. I love and I'm passionate about music and especially lyrics. Music connects all of us in surprising ways. Thanks for the memories and the fun.!

Wow I haven't heard this one since I was a really little kid. My grandmother loved the oldies so I would listen to them when in her car, a giant 2 door blue Chevy Impala with a white quarter Landau roof. I just remember the early 1970s we didn't really use seat belts and that car was so huge the back seat was like a living room couch. Brings me back, sitting on crushed blue velvet seats listening to old songs. Great memories, thank you!!!!

Oh, where oh where can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world. We were out on a date in my daddy's car We hadn't driven very far There in the road, up straight ahead A car was stalled, the engine was dead I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right I'll never forget the sound that night The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass The painful scream that I heard last. Oh, where oh where can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world. When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down There were people standing all around Something warm runnin' in my eyes But somehow I found my baby that night I lifted her head, she looked at me and said "Hold me darling just a little while." I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss I found the love that I knew I would miss But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight I lost my love, my life that night. Oh, where oh where can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world. Oh, oh

I've heard this song since I was little cuz it was 1 of my dad's favorite songs. It was originally written & recorded by Wayne Cochran but had little success. Later it was recorded by J. Frank Wilson & the Cavaliers & became a bigger hit. Here's a little history of the meaning behind the song... The song was supposedly based on the true story of Jeanette Clark and J.L. Hancock, who were both 16 years old when their car hit a tractor-trailer on a road in rural Barnesville, Georgia. The problem is that the song was recorded more than a year before the accident supposedly happened. Clark and Hancock were on a date a few days before Christmas in 1962. A local gas station attendant helping with the recovery of the bodies did not recognize his own daughter. Hancock and Clark's friend Wayne Cooper, who was riding with them, was killed instantly. Their two other friends, Jewel Emerson and Ed Shockley, survived with serious injuries. Wayne Cochran's drummer had been dating Jeannette Clark's sister at the time of the wreck. The song was written by Wayne Cochran, who lived on Route 1941 in Georgia, about 15 miles from the crash site. It was a busy road, and Cochran witnessed lots of accidents on it. He was working on a song based on all the crashes he saw, and was about halfway done with "Last Kiss" when he heard about the wreck in Barnesville. There was an intense emotional response from the community after the tragedy, and Cochran used those feelings to finish the song, which he dedicated to Jeanette Clark.

Tammy Alvarez Thank you for the history behind this song. When I was a kid, my uncle had the original single by Frank Wilson. He let me have it and I would play it over and over and cry, I was about 8-9 years old. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up and would go on country drives. I would sing this song to my cousins in the back seat for many years. I still have the record!

@Tammy Alvarez: It’s so cool to know someone else grew up without much money, but I never felt poor! We had so much fun just driving around in the country with my mom, Aunt and my two younger cousins just singing songs and drinking pop! But, “Last Kiss,” was my solo! Lol!! Then my cousins would cry and I had to whip out a Loretta Lynn song from my repertoire! Lol! I’m still a fan of old country music, but once I hit 12 years old it was all Boy George, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, The Go-Gos, Prince. One time after singing, “Last Kiss,” I broke out with “Little Red Corvette,” not knowing at 12 what the song was about or the words and my mom almost drove off the road! Lol! I was so clueless when she said not to sing that nasty song again, of course, as soon as I could, I asked an older friend and then wished I hadn’t! Lol!! That’s one of the funniest stories I remember! My aunt teased me about that for years! Great memories! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with such a truly great song! ❤️

Hi India, that Not his baby...his sweetheart. This is an example of "dead teenager" songs that were popular in the early days of rock and roll. Another was "Patches" ( that one is a suicide) and "Tell Laura I Love Her". They reflect the melancholy of adolescence. Frequently the radio stations would make the DJ's give a message after playing these songs about NOT committing suicide. Hay, after two days you're now at 151,000. I may have to offer a new prediction about getting to 175,000 by August first. Wouldn't that be swell !!! Keep safe, India.

@@Indo_European_Nordic My late husband served two tours in Vietnam and was also drafted. My brothers were drafted, one went to Korea the other to Vietnam. The war that the politicians called a police action because there was not an actual declaration of war, was a daily topic at school and at home. Civil rights was a daily topic at school and at home. Just like now we thought the killings, assassinations, the riots and protest, the wars couldn't get much worse. And here we are with things a level of war, riots, senseless killings, burning of communities that are way more than we could imagine. Thank God the music revolution was happening for us too. Our music took us away from it for awhile. Music that is being created today is equally great. There is something for everyone. Songs that give you a few minutes of escape and songs calling for change. There is something for everyone. Music is a river flowing freely, ever evolving and cutting new paths. It all leads to our hearts and souls. It brings some sanity back to our worried minds. It solidifies reasoning and the need for change. It reaches people speeches, political rhetoric, and marches can not. 🙏✌👋🌻

@@Teresia12 wow I thought the Vietnam war and Korea war both were the worse times since the great depression. I only really ever got told by my father the hardship that fell as my mother never really talk about her life back then. I mean I can't say I know for a fact but I can say that by the time I was born back in 86 as a child of a veteran I couldn't Imagin how life was then. At times my father use to tell me about cars he had and how fast they went and cops couldn't keep up and where he lived at a young age of 16 his dad I guess was always in alert so he had a loaded shotgun so as my father came home after his sister did because he droped her off close to their house after racing some friends the cops were chasing my dad and so when he returned home I guess granddad almost shot him because he snuck in the house knocked over grandma's vase is what woke my grandpa up and after that the cop pulled up and grandpa still holding a shot gin told the cops to leave.. Lol not sure of honestly I would have liked the 50s and 60s lack of cops lack of laws bit yet you boomers did make the best you had out of life at that time that leads us of today's time as I'm reaching older age I look back at what I've done.. I mean don't get me wrong I done some crazy things but in the end its not like back then yall kids had a lot going on I think more so then what this generation of 20 year old's do. The most we had that was I can recall major whole i was growing up was John Walsh and what happened to Adam Walsh the school shootings and bomb threats and the bombing of Oklahoma City bank and 9 11 that lead to a war in Iran irac and Afghanistan. I mean they say history repeats its self and I can see that but if we follow the same path logic says we are headed for a major war soon and just looking back at just Vietnam war alone that thought just kinda frightens me in a way that I think most of the new generation isn't going to like and the ones who right now blame the boomers for everything will be lost at words when. In reality it was the boomer generation that gave us what we have today our law and order but yet our freedom among with technology that advanced us...i can say the boomer generation was the last best generation their was because of that. As far as my generation goes for what they want isn't a good idea. We need our police but yet we need others to understand that we are past 17 18 and 1900s we are past the era of making equal rights as all Americans have equal rights what we need is making the law understand they work for us we the people. But that's my take on it

Classic song. Now you have to hear 'Death Cab for Cutie' by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. By the way I love your shirt, The Who are the best.

There was a band called Death Cab for Cutie also. I think it comes from a book or poem originally.

With your expression on this song, I would like to see it with the song DOA by Boodrock. "We were flying low and hit something in the air". I have it on a playlist but won't listen to it while I'm driving. Don't want to tempt fate.

India, this kind of song about death was sort of a sub-genre at the time. A couple of others have mentioned titles. (Tell Laura I Love Her and Teen Angel) I can add Timothy by the Buoys Much to my surprise, there is a Wikipedia page about it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_tragedy_song

I do not agree that he meant to do that on purpose because it was an accident that's why he explained that he held her head and kissed her their last kiss because he would not be able to do that after that and I don't know if you heard it in the song but it was something warm running in his eyes which was actually probably the blood that was coming from her dripping in his eyes because she must have been upside down and that was happening to him so the point is that he avoided having an accident but he still had one because of the slippery roads so they would have crashed into the other car that was stalled but at least they might have survived but as the song explained he swerved to the right and probably went down a ditch

The lyrics are "the Lord took her away from me". She was killed in a car accident. He didn't kill her! This is based on the true story of Jeanette Clark and J. L. Hancock, both 16. The car hit a tractor trailer on a road in rural Georgia. Try "Teen Angel", by Mark Dinning. Your shirt says " The Who" great band, you should do a reaction video of their songs. I would like to see, "Pinball Wizard", " Baba O'Reily", "Join Together With the Band", We Won't Get Fooled Again", "Love Reign Over Me", "Bellboy", "Sea and Sand", all are great songs, take your pick! Thank you! Have a great day!
