Countries completely gone now...poorer Britain due to high cost of Living...and no help from the Government and importing millions of Muslim Immigrants.
I’m not sure what’s happening, I’m a few miles away in Huddersfield. It’s pretty much the same. It’s like everyone as giving up. And the towns reflect the way of the people in them. Every things gone flat
I was born in Dewsbury in 1946. Being a woollen mill town it was never a glamorous place but in my youth it was at least well kept and always full of activity. Dewsbury Town Hall is still magnificent but other than that these days the town centre is an absolute dump, a total embarrassment. Thank goodness I don't live there anymore.
Born in Dewsbury, lived there 49 years, moved nearly 2 years ago thank god, everyone knows what happened, I now live in North Yorkshire and it feels like Dewsbury was 40 years ago.
My folks born and bred Dewsbury. When i was a kid we visited family just about every Saturday, I'm 59 now. My parents left when my Dad joined the RAF and never went back. I used to love visiting Dewsbury, the shops, the market were the best around. Christmas was always a magical time. The last few times I have been i couldn't wait to get the HELL out of there its a Swamp.
grew up in dewsbury in the 60/70s , absolutely heartbreaking to see. the market used to be a popular coach trip, was a really vibrant mill/ market town. with the decline of the textile trade the money just left dewsbury. never seenit looking so run down, shame because theres still a lot of great buildings left. looks like a thirld world / war zone now. says it all really, all thats left gambling dens, take aways and eastern european shops. such a shame and waste.
Blimey - what a video. It seems most UK towns have gone into decline in the last few years. The Covid situation was the obvious nail in the coffin. The council seem to be adamant with their anti car stance, which only seems to accelerate the decline of these towns. Come on bus people - your town needs you !
I was born in Staincliffe Hospital, Dewsbury, in 1973 and grew up down the road in Mirfield. I got out in 1998. I've been back a handful of times since but was shocked to see the real decline in the state of the buildings and the ghost town feel about the place. What a shame because if you look at the stunning architecture of Dewsbury, it was once a great looking town centre.
Go 2 miles up the road to Ossett, and it’s a thriving, wealthy and smart town. Dewsbury was a nice place in the 1970’s and early 80’s - but it is now horrendous, sad. It’s famous for being one of the only places where even McDonalds shut down. There is one on the main road near Ossett now. It has a few decent pubs, the one at the Station is decent and there’s an Ossett Brewery one.
Born and grew up in Dewsbury. We moved away when I was 14 in 1988. The decline from those days is shocking. We were passing through a couple of years ago so we stopped and had a walk around. Was quite upsetting to see what's become of it. Daisy Hill in particular is dreadful. My wife even admitted to feeling a little unsafe when we were there.
Grew up in Dewsbury but have lived in Canada for 48 years I can remember when Daisy Hill was the poshest street in Dewsbury market was one of the best in the country and the streets of Dewsbury were always clean Saturdays the town centre was full of families and shops doing a booming business heartbreaking at the state it’s in now.
Too bloody right, on the rare occasions when I have to endure a visit to my home town of 67 years I struggle to recognise the language spoken by any of the very dubious denizens that lurk there. We need to grow some balls and make them fear and respect us again.
Rather different when comparing the older street views. To the north long Halifax Road pass the Lidl a modern style Kirklees College Sixth Form was constructed few years ago. The former Kirklees College is being demolished (part of the old building will remain but many architectural details removed) and new Kirklees District Police Station to be constructed to serve Dewsbury and Huddersfield.
You should soon be having you're Kurdish hand car wash in you're local supermarket car park folks ! You know the ones ?! Just about every supermarket in ( think it was once called England ? ) Has one !
These are the things Starmer & his cronies will never understand. I worked in Dewsbury for many years, it was pretty bad then but in the last 5 years since I left it's really gone down hill. So sad for the older people who've been there all their lives.
Same in the west Midlands, gran took brother and me was always full shopping in the 60s and 70s, all shops shut down all charity shops, the big supermarkets killed the town, and people who not British
it's shocking for us who live here too. You can go down into the town one weekend and think it can't get any worse, then go down the following week and more places shut down. Since you were here they've got rid of Barclays bank now. Lots of shopkeepers have tried to make a go of it but the rents are just too high and so they only last a couple of weeks. Anyway thanks for the video..and stay well.
Dewsbury has gone to the dogs back in the day people would come from miles to go to market daisy hill would be thriving it was a very busy town back then
Heart-breaking to see where i was born ruined labour did this that council need criminal charges for fraud the only way to rebuild it is free parking for three hours remove business rates for a year and zero tolerance on crime all those beautiful buildings make the factories flats get money back in that town then trade comes back
Oh man, this makes me so sad. I used to live just outside Dewsbury and it was once a great, thriving little town. The rot set in once and for all in 2006 when Marks and Spencers left. Over the following years, the big stores all closed down. The beautiful Victorian arcade was once full of cafes and independent shops, but has been completely closed for well over 10 years. The market was once a major attraction, and coach parties used to come and visit from all over. I thought the ultimate insult was when the McDonald's closed down about ten years ago, but I see from your video that even the Wetherspoons has now closed!! I have (thankfully) moved away, so it's been about 4 years since I was in Dewsbury, but I am really shocked at how much it has deteriorated since then. I honestly think this video should be on the national news because it is an absolute scandal that any town in the UK should be left to just die like this!
Muslims Muslims that's what happened to Dewsbury looking worse than gazza .probably makes them feel like there in Pakistan and Bangladesh two shitholes together could do with the IDF they know how to treat them. Victory to Israel 🇮🇱 ❤❤❤❤❤
One word…. Multiculturalism…. It’s 😂 destroyed most northern towns…. I’m from Oldham but moved away about 40 years ago , I went back for the first time last year and I thought I was in Bangladesh….. the place as become unrecognisable from how I knew it….
you didn't see the market because you weren't there on a wednesday or a saturday, looks like you went on a sunday or a thursday when nothing's open - toffee smith wasn't open so you went on a sunday or a thursday.. & why didn't you point out the murals? or any of the shops that have been there for years like the cobblers & greenwoods? the oldest alternative night club, open since 1976? the minster or the railway station? please never come back to dewsbury, you're not welcome.
Historically, I think you have to go back to Thatcher. She was the main catalyst for exploiting the poor, destroying industry, high streets etc. Many northern towns have been neglected by succesive governments. Recent events have just accellerated the decline. So sad to see it happen in such a short time.
We have the great & wounderfull Tony Blair to thank for all this !! Who by the way good people of Dewsbury Not only did he receive a golden handshake on leaving parliament ? But is also enjoying his gold pension !! Yep !! Eeees alright jack !!
money was suppose to be invested in dewbury the council stated that money has gone missing its a shame what has happened to my hometown everything is shutting down all we have to show for it is casinos and a local crackhead
