I have the Hyperion 2 and it´s fabulous, maybe my favorite shoe atm. Great upper, responsive midsole (but not firm, it´s just lovely) and very lightweight. Price is great too 150 €, just like it should be.
Apparently there's two kinds of new Ultraboost, 5 and 5x. 5x is the lighter and uncaged version while the 5 still has the classic ultraboost midfoot cage
@@EDDBUD as per BITR's podcast w the director of ultraboost, oddly it has more lockdown than the caged because they actually worked on the knit's fit this time rather than relying on the cage, don't know if i'd believe it though 😆
Call me nuts but I'm really excited for the big new ultraboost. Ultraboosts still have a pretty unique underfoot feel, closest shoe to it imo are the reebok floatrides. And whilst those are fantastic shoes, i do still prefer the knit uppers adidas makes. I think it might be a surprise hit.
Umm odd re Brooks. No rest days Edd. I think you need to run everyday then will be sorted. That said the Max 2 does now seem to be max in weight. From what FOD Runner running was sort of saying sounded to me like Brooks thought they needed a Zoom Fly 5.
@@EDDBUD Looks like the OG Max was 221g in sample size but now is 258g which is quite a jump. Think Andy said was about 340g for him so sounds like around 300g for you. I guess Brooks are looking to put a real differential between the regular 2 (which is only 201g in sample size) and the Max 2 which now is more in the realm of a Boston 12 thinking about the weights if not quite a ZF5 but getting there...
Surely there isn't a fake EddBud around? It reminded me of the time Del closely inspect the Mona Lisa picture at Trigger's nan's house only to announce "It's a copy" 😂
Every time i look at ON racing shoes I get tempted. And then I look at the price. Theres no way theres an extra $30-80 (for the LS its $330 USD/Euro) amount of performance
Of the four, the only one that I might consider is the Hyperion 2, mainly because it seems-like you said-that it might fill that original Hyperion Max role, all while being cheaper and lighter. It’s $140 USD, which is on par with the Rebel v4, Mach 6, and Novablast 4. If that foam is just a tad softer than v1 but still snappy, that might be a good deal.
Adidas a hard "nay", ON "nay" hyped to the max (especially their no lace upper) and too expensive, Brooks shoes "Nay". They really need to update their midsole foams. Love their simple comfortable uppers. Edd, thanks for the preview of these shoes.
I run in the Hyperion Max 2. It really wants you to run a bit faster despite the bulkier appearance, but I find I can run at easier paces and at faster efforts. I think it's due to the rocker. Plus, the upper is so comfortable.
Hi Eddbud, I truly ike the "Yea or Nay" kinda of game review, however; with all due respect, a shoes should not get a "Nay" solely for its price, I understand that money is a huge factor, but honestly reviews should be more on you trying the actual shoes, having a feeling and giving us your opinion. You gave the new ON Cloudboom Strike a "Nay" I would love to see you trying it on and perhaps having your honest opinion based on the trying on. cheers man
It’s not a nay on the shoe. But when I have to fork out 260 for a shoe that in respect is perhaps not anything better than what I’ve tested I have to be logical
Cheers Ed, always a good series is Yay and Nay! On Cloud seem to lose the holes when they want to make a high end race shoe. It seems to me the holes are OK for training shoes but they can't get their USP (gimmick?) to work for real pace and low weight.
Hi Edd, I actually think that despite the cloudboom strike is super pricey, you should totally consider trying that shoe to see what its like. I have a feeling you might like it
I tried out the Brooks Max 2 in a running store the other day and the weight issue compared to it's predecessor wasn't a problem for me. I didn't even notice it. But I'm 215 lbs. and maybe that's why just like I don't feel the weight of the Boston 12 which is the same weight as the HM2. The extra weight is compensated by a more responsive foam and the added pebax plate. The plate makes the shoe a little more stiffer than the HM1 but it makes the rocker up front more propulsive where you get a very rapid roll onto your toes. Plus it's way more stable than the HM1 and the upper is way better than HM1 too. It's just in a different category now. Same category as the Boston 12. It's going to better for recovery and sustaining your pace for long runs. The HM1 was more of a tempo/daily shoe for shorter runs and 5k to 10k races. I also tried out the Hyperion 2 and it's good but the major difference between the H2 and HM1 is the forefoot rocker in the H2 is not as pronounced as the one in the HM2 or the HM1. As a forefoot striker I prefer the more pronounced rocker in the HM1 or the HM2.
@@EDDBUD - I have wondered about these new adidas Ultraboost 5 running shoes. So, they went up to Ultraboost 22 then started over again at 1.0 a few years ago?
Hyperion max 2 is a banger Ed. I’m 60 miles into mine and honestly like it more than the endorphin speed 3 (have not ran in the 4). I especially think you will like this shoe bc of your fancy toward the puma deviate nitro. They both use nitro infused TPEE and the PEBAX plate in HM2 offers a ton of pop at tempo and threshold efforts. Upper is super dialed too.
So far 18km in the Ultraboost 5X (300g at 10.5 US / 44.5 vs 285g for Prime X 1) and I'd say it feels a little like Endorphin Shift... It doesn't feel heavy... but I will only use the for easy runs as for most other use cases I'd pick Adios Pro 2 or Boston 12. The upper is glove like (I mean the same as previous UB) and it's a little different from traditional uppers. Hard to judge how comfortable they'd be on a long run (more than 1h30).
I tried on the ON Cloudboom Strike the other day - didn’t love it but their marketing is missing the main tech in it, which is a new energy pod thing in the INSOLE - felt very like an alpha fly pod. Was very stable feeling, pretty light, but you’re right, too expensive
Yo Edd! The cloud strike is very aggressive, kind of option to the ASICS sky Paris, i thjnk its a sleeper, bette for longer stuff than the CBE3, puma is more durable though, enjoying my pair right now
I have the Max 2's comming at the end of the month , so will let you know how I find them when I have put some miles in them. The On shoes .. like you said there are shoes behind you which will do the job and then some ) .. the latest Asics Paris series ..Bangers.. honestly at this point I would rather save 100 and get a pair of KIPRUN KD900X LD (as a mid pack runner .. just put in an old pair of saucony laces and insole ..works wonders) over another 250-300 shoe.
Hyperion 2 is more like Hyperion Max 1. Hyperion Max 2 is actually closer to Endorphin Speed like nylon plated tempo shoe. I think both shoes have merit. Brooks is just missing on the Elite a bit. They need to put some PEBA in Elite, otherwise it is a really good design. Anyway, don't write off Hyperion Max 2. On Cloudboom Strike is interesting for the way it is made (single thread robot made 3D upper, upper part of midsole as an insert). But at that price it is not offering too much more performance wise. It is expensive because the process doesn't scale up for mass production.
Totally disagree. Love the Cloudmonster 2, love the echo boom 3 and the cloudflow 4. These are 3 of the best Running shoes I ever had, and I had lots of them
About the Ultraboost 5X , I heard about confusion in some RU-vid channels talking about the new Ultraboost. Since said it was caked Ultraboost 5, others said it is Ultraboost 5X and others said will be the two models ! Do you know what is actually launching ? Ultraboost for running, right ? No more #%#@ useless Sneakers , that many are even more expensive than the best carbon plated racing shoes !
@@EDDBUD oh thanks . Then I will need to be careful and really pick the right model for running. Last year I ran a bit more then 400km on my Ultraboost Light and it was a blast of a great time. All I expect for the new model for improving what was great ( for me) are : a bit more Continental rubber on the right spot for a better grip in toe off , and would not hurt a bit more middlesole stack in the forefoot area. And it seems my " prayers" were answered ! Too bad they did bit really work too well with the Pegasus 41 ...
@@EDDBUD - Still gutted though conceding so late. England were just ~5 mins away from extra-time and with more substitutes available. Well done Spain, first team to ever win every single match in a Euros final tournament. 👏🏻
I just did a 20 mile long run in the On Cloudboom Strike... I thought they were pretty fun. Only thing that sucked were the laces, they came open 3-5 times with a double knot. Interesting sensation walking in them, like walking on turf.
@EDDBUD Yes, he said they were good for half marathon and below and not great for bigger runners (I'm 190 lbs.). I'll have to see how they perform on road. It's 26.2 miles, so I'm sure not many are going to feel like a stroll in the park. Those Saucony Endorphin Elite 2's look interesting.
Will be picking up the Adidas UB as I use them as an every day casual shoe. Also, appreciate it's highly subjective but I think that On shoe is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen!!
