This is one of the heaters that followed me home from the Austin ICCC convention. Seems to be in pretty good shape, let's see how it goes!

A woodworking vise, or soft jaw vise is really handy for pulling the valve assembly out of the tank. I also keep a few scraps of leather(Michaels craft store, a big bag of off cuts for cheap) around for this very purpose. This is one of my very favorite and useful Coleman appliances. Got us through a gas main break several years ago. You can use the propane converters for Coleman stoves in these too. They are not all created equal, though. If I recall correctly, the brass valved ones are better. Can't remember if I had to drill out the orifice or not. Just be careful with how you keep it in place. A 20lb cylinder or larger, is the way to go.

Agreed a different vice would be better, but I gotta dance with the one that brung me. I've got some leather scraps in the house that I need to relocate out to the shop.

@@gasunderpressure9131 If you get some time, next time you are at your favorite home improvement store, pick up a short piece of 3/4 copper tubing and cut it to the length of your vise jaws. Cut it lengthwise down one side and heat it with a torch. Let it cool or quench it water. It will be dead soft. Open it up and pound it flat. Heat and cool it again as it will work harden, and put it in your vise so the lower edge matches the steel jaws and crank it tight. Pound the part sticking up back over the jaw to form fit it to the contours of your vice. Repeat for the other jaw. Heat them one more time and you've got a set of removable soft jaws that won't mar brass or steel. It will take about as long as it took me to type this. HAHA!

Another issue with the Alchol is that it is a weak acid. Acid and brass don't mix.

You know I almost kinda vaguely remember that from chem. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to bring that up the next time someone tells me that ethanol in gas is "just fine".
