Hi Mark, the sP01 gives you an independent global volume control, so you don't have to crank up the main GPZ volume, which is a target volume control. It also gives you improved clarity, and a special way of making faint sounds appear larger, sort of like a pseudo stereo mode. This only works with stereo wired headphones. The SteelPhase Pro series are a perfect match to the sP01, are extremely comfortable with gel filled ear pads, and are built tough using quality components. Hope that helps.
