Why ONBOARD®?
The ONBOARD® System takes oil filtration to a new level, leaving every other product literally in the dirt. Diesel engines have high compression which leads to increased blow-by contaminants entering the crank case. These intruders include soot, unburned fuel, and water from combustion and condensation. These contaminants adversely affect the oil causing increased nitration and oxidation as well as adverse viscosity changes. As the process is prolonged, the contaminants degrade your oil’s ability to protect your engine. The ONBOARD® System filters the particulates while the vacuum chamber evaporates, through convection, the liquids from the motor oil while the engine is running, thus ensuring maximum oil lubricity and ultimate protection for your precious equipment.
ONBOARD®: a two-stage system:
Stage I - The Particle Filter
Standard, full-flow OEM oil filters remove particles no smaller than 20µ at a nominal rating. If the OEM filter did remove smaller particles down to 3µ, the filter would soon become clogged, increasing oil pressure to the point of opening the pressure relief valve and allowing unfiltered oil to circulate throughout the engine. Not good. The ONBOARD® Particulate Filter removes 99.99 % of particles larger than 2µ. This G8 Beta 1000 dual-glass filter element is an integral part of the ONBOARD® System, and can help extend engine life well beyond 60% with our particle filter alone…
Stage II - Vacuum Dehydration
However, we do not stop with particle filtration. What truly separates ONBOARD® from the old school filtration systems is our Evaporation Convection - Vacuum Dehydration technology. After passing through the Particle Filter, the motor oil flows into the Vacuum Dehydration chamber where water, unburned fuel, and glycol, are first evaporated, then vacuumed back through the intake for re-burn in the combustion chambers. Thus, the engine itself is actually an integral part of the refining process!

Guys always be careful when applying gasket maker around any areas that your engine oil touches. Smooth it all out before installing so when you torque it all down the excess doesn't drop into your oil. This excess gasket maker will run through the system finding the smallest ports to get stuck in and decrease lubrication. Seen it happen, not a cheap or easy fix to find.

So, I have been looking at a number of oil bypass filters, and this system seems ridiculously complex to me. I am looking at the Insane Diesel system. It seems effective, with a simple and clean looking installation, and what I really like is the option to mount the filter in the engine bay. Your comment about a clogged bypass system increasing oil pressure seems inaccurate to me. A 100% clogged bypass system would be exactly the same as having no bypass at all. Also, I do not want these impurities going into my intake, I would rather have the junk being trapped in a filter that I can changed. Anyway, I love the channel, very informative. You convinced me to install the Air Dog on my 2010 Duramax and it works great. I will likely be deleting the engine bay fuel filter soon.

On the oil pan forget the drill and tap, it is too weak in 1/16" sheet metal even with the JB Weld. Spend $15 on a brass or stainless 3/8" bulkhead fitting and forgo the expense of the 3/8" tap and drill bit and get a stout connection. Do your truck a favor and buy a wire crimper, the vice grips are flattening your wire terminals which do not hold well. Also throw away those cheap ring terminals and butt splices and get the heat shrink adhesive ones, they even sell them at Harbor Freight now and your connections will be more secure and water proof. Always strip your wire connections for solid connectivity when using a butt splice. Thanks for the video.

I work in an oil testing lab and will put in my .02. Oil Bypass filtration works keeping your oil much cleaner than a 20-40 micron OEM oil filter. Proper oil sample testing with bypass filtration can increase oil change intervals multiple times. With that being said, why would you ever install a system that "Heats up" your oil? Oil and engine heat is what all OEM's try to eliminate! If clean oil increased fuel economy by a noticable amount we would all notice the increase everytime we had our oil changed. If an engine has enough fuel dilution in the oil to use the vapors to increase fuel economy...you have a problem. So I call BS on that MPG claim and evaporating contaminants for fuel. I have customers that use oil bypass systems for semi trucks costing less than $500 and can be installed in an hour. If $1500 and 6 hours install is accurate for this system, I would go a different route.

Because the lines cool the oil to the point where they could cause pressure issues for cold weather environments. 2. Run a GC fuel % on any new diesel with EGR and DPF and 6-7% is the new norm.

Awesome instructional video! Couple things if I may.....Do you feel comfortable with the security of the fitting you installed into the pan? I saw it move when you installed the line. It doesn't seem thick enough the thread a fitting into. Maybe you could thread it all the way in and back it with a nut perhaps? Also, I hope you cleaned the chips out of the intake tube when you drilled and tapped it. I know you don't always show everything, like the unstripped red wire you put the butt connector on. Not trying to nitpick here bud. PPE makes a centrifuge system that spins crap out of the oil also. Maybe you could add one of those and go even longer between oil changes. Keep up the great videos. We look forward to them. T.

I don’t get it. Most guys do a PCV reroute and just vent to the atmosphere. I understand the reason for adding a bypass filter, makes a lot of sense. But why would you add a PCV system after you have already deleted it? I saw the small filter that it goes through before it goes back into the intake tube but,, why not ditch that and vent it to the atmosphere? Does this filter system require a vacuum source to work correctly? I’m not trying to be a wise ass, just an honest question. 😳

Another great video Truck Master. I did lots and lots of resaerch on bypass kits before making a decision on a Parker Racor absolute kit. Unfortunately there was know room in my engine bay because of my added coolant filter so i had to mount it on the frame which was one of the reasons i wanted to paint my frame. I really like that settup and totally understand why you went that route. I never gave it a thought about high oil pressure. Oh well will try this kit for awhile. I can always change it later if i dont like it. Take care

@pianoman4318
@pianoman4318 7 лет назад
Truck Master im really not sure. It was on the truck when i bought it but id say changing it every couple years or so would be fine. I believe they just catch some of the larger debree floating around the system and just like a bypass oil filter it only circulates a small ammount of coolant say like 10 percent at a time. Mines just a Napa spin on type and it utilized the spot right where your Onboard is mounted. I new this truck was for me when i noticed all these fuel filter, coolant filter, and bypass filter kits on it. You could tell this guy loved his truck.

A bulk head fitting in the oil pan would have been a much stronger and more reliable set-up, the pan is to thin for threading and with a bulk head fitting there is no need for jb weld, there is a thread and flair sealer for high pressure hydraulic system I use in the oil fields all the time, Teflon if not put on correctly will detach inside the system and clog small passages, "lifters, lifter tubes, gauges etc".
@brandonboyd2046
@brandonboyd2046 7 лет назад
When I put in my gauges I had problems with the constant voltage source, it was because I put it on that radio fuse, the one you put that on board system on the 15A fuse, it didn't like that the add-a-fuse says to use the 10A fuses. Maybe yours is rated for higher I would just hate for that system to not work right. Just something to think about

+Brandon Boyd I really appreciate the heads up I had no idea, do you have any suggestions on what fuse to use other than the ignition
@brandonboyd2046
@brandonboyd2046 7 лет назад
It depends if your on board system has to stay on a constant source or if it's a switched ignition source, but any non vital 10 amp fuse depending on what your system needs should work. Maybe look under the dash if nothing comes up under the hood

ONBOARD ECVD Yeah, I get it. Preventative maintenance is always a good thing when the cost is 50 percent less than the part you're trying to save. I work on aircraft and we do preventative maintenance all the time to keep our air superiority over other countries. 1500 is a very high price point for this. You could buy a cp3, new tires, upgraded turbo, two retractable bed covers, or 2 fass pumps. I'm not saying your product isn't good, I'm saying mind the price. The average guy doesn't have 1500 for this when you could replace an old turbo with an upgraded turbo for the same cash or may not have the 1500 period. Just something to think about.

the additives in the oil breaks down in time, my preferences is to change oil at about 20% life with the addition of 2 quarts of Lucas in doing this my engine (LLY 04) runs a lot quieter.I ran into a man that runs a 05 lly on straight Lucas it was very quieter. I would be more interested in a better oil filter or a duel filter
@factoryrep8811
@factoryrep8811 5 лет назад
Try a 3 micron oil bypass filter with water removal technology . Lower than 2 micron filtration can strip additives from the oil and above 5 micron can leave particulates large enough to cause wear in todays tight tollerance engines. My 05 LLY has gone past 7 oil change intervals. I do oil analysis every 5k. Great news with the LLY is that it has very low soot due to a complete burn of the fuel and lack of all the new polution crap!

It lasted about a year then it started leaking

Truck Master aside from the leaking that occurred later, did it perform the key benefits as advertise? Was it the containment unit that started leaking or the hose/connection points?

Truck Master when did u switch to synthetic? If u don't like all the wires showing u can hide them in the out side fuse panel box.

This is way to involved for what it is & way way too expensive when there’s alternatives 5x easier & cheaper that are just as good

Man drilling into stuff and having to make your own fittings and stuff always bothers me. Those are things you don’t see and when they fail and all your oil is let out while driving then you have a major expensive repair. I’d love to do this but it worries me that’s for sure. Plus it looks messy with all the hoses everywhere and stuff.

You should get a furmoto valve
@TruckMaster
@TruckMaster 7 лет назад
+DustyChevy I was so thinking about doing that before I started this project but next time I change the oil it will happen thanks

Truck Master I got one after my dealer started charging $100 for an oils change and I started doing it myself, I bought one and love it. Dealer used to charge $60 for an oil change.

+DustyChevy it's a great idea and never again will the dealer do my oil changes I've saved so much money doing it myself

What’s your views on amsoil? Like the 15w40 diesel and marine blend
@TruckMaster
@TruckMaster 6 лет назад
+drew k I'm a big fan of amsoil but I don't know much about the marine blend I really like to stick with the synthetic because my truck has over 150k miles. But if I wasn't so cheap I would by the amsoil

One Question, what kind of injector you require for my duramax 6.6 new or remanufactured?
@TruckMaster
@TruckMaster 7 лет назад
+Letty Palafox I had good luck with remanufactured ones but it depends how much your willing to spend if you but new stock injectors I would buy the Bosch brand

If I put a turbo back exhaust, do I need to do an EGR delete tune?
@TruckMaster
@TruckMaster 7 лет назад
+Brad Schaefer no that won't interfere with the Egr but it wouldn't be a bad idea to get all that done at once

So letting your engine burn dirt water and metal sounds good because that's what a airfilter restricts. Horrible idea. Lol

A bypass oil filter system will not affect oil pressure even completely clogged. Your still using your regular filter system.
